Chapter 11 - Plans for greatness

"His Vow allows him to hit his target regardless of the distance" Lurue spitefully claimed

"Have you seen him miss his target before?" Liam wondered

"Not even once" Lurue responded

Liam stood and pondered for a little before rationalizing if she was telling the truth based on his experience. Reminiscing on the brief contact Liam was sure that Lurue's body would absorb the arrow. However it didn't stop, in fact it dug through his leg and her body.

The only way for Liam to kill his enemy is to catch him off guard and not release any arrows.

"Tell me the specifics of your Vow, NOW" Liam demanded with an authoritative voice.

"I– well, it" Lurue seemed to struggle with spitting it out.

Drawing his still bloody blade he thrusted the sword toward her neck stopping just as the tip dug into the surface of her skin.

"I won't ask again" Liam stated.

"Okay I swear I will tell you the truth just don't kill me" Lurue shouted

"Talk" Liam requested

"My Vow works in as a command for animals" Lurue began her explanation

"I can command animals to do an action for me, However only under certain conditions. For my Vow to have most effect they must be injured or have submitted themselves to me. I can still demand animals who haven't been weakened or submitted but only for limited effect."

Taking all the information in, Liam pondered on plans he could set into action.

"Is there any limit to your Vow" Liam asked

"Yes" She responded

"I can command animals as long as I can handle it. Each command requires me to excerpt my willpower of the animal, and eventually I get an excruciating pain in my head. That's why it's so important to have animals that won't resist you" Lurue continued

"The less the animals resist my commands, the less willpower is required to make them and the less it affects me."

How do I use her Vow to my advantage? Liam wondered.

Thinking of the structure of the compound the archer was likely still in Liam thought of something. The compound's only source of water is a couple of wells, due to it being nested in the valley there is no natural running water near the outpost requiring a day of travel to the nearest one.

The forest around them has largely been vacant besides small fauna and creatures due to extreme over hunting. However there are tons of wild plants just laying around.

"Does size matter for your Vow" Liam asked

"Size… Size of what?" she asked in a defensive tone as she made a weird face

"Size of the wildlife or creatures you can command" Liam responded calm as normal

"No, not really as long as the animal isn't huge" Lurue told him with a relieved look on her face.

"Okay, I'll let you know our plan tomorrow we need to rest and eat" Liam stated

Moving the bear to the tunnel in a bizarre show of strength, he rested the body on the slope of the tunnel leading down into the depths of the cave. Slicing into the bear he made sure to attempt to gut and bleed the bear. Before resting he passed Lurue some dried food he had and some water captured in a leaf from the pouring rain outside.

Unfortunately he had no way to help her other than that, even with her wound only time will tell if she will live. With a dagger in hand and plans for greatness to achieve tomorrow Liam dozed off to sleep.
