Chapter 38 - Ramiro

"Ow! My head!"Amy groaned and saw Viola at her bedside. After getting a look at her surroundings, she realized that she's in the infirmary. "What happened?"

"You collapsed from low magic." Viola answered and handed her some water. "Luckily it isn't serious and all you needed was rest. However, you will need to stay here overnight." Her smile quickly turn into a frown. Her eyes look ashamed. "I'm useless. You were the only one that wasn't scared and took care of the problem. I was told that my powers are stronger than yours but you seem to have the strong one."

Amy smiled weakly as she drank her water. "You just needed courage and more practice."

"I could never get it right like yours." Viola sighed. "I should have trained with you at the same time as Alina. I could've been more strong then."

"You are strong. You are much better at Hyacinth at magic and Hortense in the bow, aren't you?" Amy assured her then Viola chuckled then looked at the clock which got Amy to look only to see her heart drop as she does the mental math. "I've been out how long?!"

"We got you your notes from the other classes and you've been out for nearly fifteen hours."

Oh, fuck me! She groaned and facepalmed.

"You are also excused from classes the entire day so don't worry and - "

She then pointed at the table full of gifts.

"After you got rid of the roaches, everyone was grateful and got you presents when they went to the nearby town."

They are mostly snacks and trinkets but it is quite thoughtful of them.

Viola walked out the door to talk to someone then came back in. "You haven't eaten yet so they'll bring you food."

Amy nodded.

"By the way, Melissa, Nathaniel and Sabina visited this morning. Even Rufus and Leon came to apologize. Leon still hasn't said much but both left gifts for you."

"Throw it away." Amy grumbled.

Viola gave her the gift anyway as she dropped it on her lap. It is a small box and she opened it to a sea blue, square-shaped diamond. It is a high quality gem which can be used as a wand. Amy stared at the gift with disbelief and amazement. She can't tell whether or not he is truly repentant or insulting her by indirectly telling her to get a wand.

To tell the truth, a part of her wanted to take it for her own purposes but another part of her feels guilty if she were to accept something so expensive, fit for royalty. Besides, Leon might not even feel sorry and might even tease her for accepting the gem.

"I don't want it. Give it back." She said and gave the box back to Viola.

"Check out the next one. It's from Rufus." She said and brought what looks like a fruit basket.

"Actually, I think you'll like it." Viola giggled. Amy curiously peeked at the present that Viola brought over and lord and behold, it is the blackest egg she has ever seen. It is small enough to fit in her hands. The note next to it is written for Amaryllis in neat, beautiful cursive. It's Rufus's handwriting.

"Is this real?"

Viola excitedly nodded. "According to Professor Pallan, he says that it is a Blind Raven."

Blind Raven is a type of Raven that does not have eyes but it has the ability to sing beautifully and are quite strong, change size and are normally difficult to kill because it can see anything far ahead. Amy recalled that Rufus has this raven as his escape route when he was ousted as the villain. Now she has the same raven. She didn't anticipate this and held onto the egg which is filled with warmth.

"I'll tell Rufus thanks." She said.

"Rufus says that it might hatch at any minute" and took the egg back on the basket.

"I see."

*

"She liked it?" Rufus says surprisingly.

"She did." Viola nodded with happiness. "She even named it Ramiro if it were a boy."

"How do you know it's a boy?" Leon asked with curiosity.

Viola shrugged. "Don't know. She seems to think it is a boy." Then she head to the door. "By the way, you are forgiven." She said before leaving.

Leon leaned on his arm with a groan while examining the diamond while Rufus chuckled triumphantly.

"I told you that she'll like my gift better." Rufus says with a mischievous smile while eyeing his friend who irritably looked away.

Leon groaned even longer. "I didn't think that Ryllis would go out with her power to the point of fainting."

"You should be grateful that no one snitched on us. Though..." Rufus thought for a moment, "I don't think anyone truly knows."

Leon smirked. "Of course not."

"But I didn't think Amaryllis is this delicate. Then again, I have only saw her strong as a combatant. I never saw her use her purification ability at full power." Rufus has his hand in his mouth in a chuckle. "That is quite impressive."

"Hmm."

Amy spent her day reading her unfinished book after eating her meal. She grabbed a gift which is a new notebook and already started writing on it out of boredom. She wrote her design, notes, incantations and ideas for her magical ambitions during her first year.

Shortly after waking up, she received a mouthful from the school nurse about the improper use of magic and that it could have killed her although she knows that is an exaggeration.

She later finds out that the other dorms from the other teams are also affected but were taken care of though no one slept well that night. It also didn't take long for anyone to figure out that it is a prank, an unfunny one in fact. But as for the culprit, no one knows except a a few baseless rumors. According to Melissa, people are now pointing fingers at who could've done this.

A few of the students actually got injured trying to get rid of the roaches but it is mostly due to accidentally hurting themselves, much different than her predicament.

Amy received homework and notes from her grateful classmates and she finished her homework quickly.

Then the egg on the nightstand began hatching. Amy quickly got off of bed to check. The bird is quite eager to break out of its shell. After a bit of struggle, there was chirping and the newborn chick came out covered in fluid. She is reminded of the bird in the manga and show it appeared in. It was majestic, intimidating and gigantic with a powerful caw. Now this bird is hers. It looked at her and squeaked in her direction.

"Hello, Ramiro." She smiled and it chirped back much to her childish pleasure.
