Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: She's Awake

Cole turned to look at her and her heart literally skipped a bit. He might not like her but he never failed to make her heart beat widely.

"When will she wake up?" Cole asked. This was his only concern. He didn't care about any other thing but her regaining her consciousness.

"At this point, it's up to her but rest assured, she will wake up soon," Kayla replied while biting her lips.

She looked at the scene which was displayed before her and her eyes stung with unshed tears. Cole didn't put anyone in his eyes except her.

"Do you really love her?" Kayla blurted out this question. She wasn't even expecting that she will ask such a question, well, there's no medicine for regret.

"Why do you ask such a question?" Cole replied her question with a question of his own.

"Just because, I want to know, it's not bad to want to know right?" Kayla gave such a flimsy excuse and she noticed it.

She looked at his expression and sighed. He didn't even react. She noticed that she gave a flimsy excuse, so therefore he should have noticed also but his lack of reaction sort of scared her.

"Yes, I love her so much, I won't lose her, I had lost her before but not this time, she's to stay with me because her place is by my side," Cole still answered despite the fact he knew Kayla was testing him.

"That's nice, I will take my leave now," she said and left immediately. She wasn't ready to listen to the love story they both shared. It will be so annoying and she had no control of her emotions.

"You can go," Cole didn't even bother to let her stay behind before giving her the permission to leave.

She hastily left the room before she became suffocated. The air and atmosphere in the room was beyond what she could take and she had no idea as to what might go on if she stayed one second in his room.

Meanwhile in the room, while Cole watched her leave, Kaia showed signs of waking up.

Her fingers moved and she made a low sound which alerted Cole to her. He shook lightly as he had no idea what would happen once she finally opens her eyes.

Kaia opened her eyes but closed it immediately as she could not adjust to the bright light. She stayed a few seconds before opening up once more.

She looked around and she was confused.

'Where was she?' This was the first thought that came to mind as she glanced around.

"Kaia, are you fine?" Cole asked nervously as he looked at her. He dared not hold her hands as he was aware she was not friendly with him but he was going to change that soon.

On hearing that voice, all the memories came rushing back to Kaia and she sat upright while shifting a bit from Cole even though there was a considerable distance between them.

Cole noticed it and sighed.

'Only a matter of time Cole, just be patient,' he said to himself. He could totally understand her.

"Kaia, you have to be calm, I won't do anything to you, you are my wife now so I don't think there's any reason for you to be afraid of me," Cole tried to pacify her. He wanted her to be free around him.

"Where's my mom?" This was the first sentence she said and Cole was expecting that already.

He knew Kaia so much. She was very concerned about her mom and he had told her that her mom was with him, so it was likely this would be the first question she asked.

"She's at the hospital, my hospital to be precise, my doctors will take care of her so you need not be worried," Cole enthusiastically informed her.

"Why are you helping me?" Kaia asked with a confused look.

"You could have just sent me out since I'm not the bride you were to get married to, why do this?" Kaia could not resist asking.

The confusion was swirling within her and she only needed answers.

"Probably it's fate, my marriage was arranged with Madison and I had no say, but since she doesn't want to get married to me and forces you to replace her, who am I to reject it?" Cole definitely didn't tell her the real reason but Kaia didn't know about that.

She totally bought the lie he gave her. Any sane person will also buy it.

"But I don't think we are legally married, I mean there was no wedding ceremony, can you just let me go?" Kaia asked slowly as she watched his face.

Seeing that he had no reaction whatsoever on his face, she took it as a clue to continue,

"I mean, I do appreciate you helping my mom but it just doesn't feel right, I promise if you let me go, you won't see me in this country anymore, I will leave with my mom," Kaia vowed as she hoped for him to accept her request.

But things don't always go as planned or as we thought it would. Kaia thought he will agree but she really didn't know Cole. After reuniting with her once more, would he let her go? That was a capital NO!

"Sorry but no," he replied harshly as he stared at her. He was well aware that she might have lost her memories but why, just why does she want to leave him? He wasn't going to allow that.

"Why can't you just let me go? Is there something you aren't telling me? I believe this is the first time we are meeting so why can't you just let me go?" Kaia threw series of questions to him and before long she was coughing since she had already strained her voice.

Cole quicky poured her a glass of water and handed it over to her. She didn't hesitate to collect it and gulp it down as she was thirsty.

She handed the cup back to Cole who collected it and dropped it on the bedside table.

"Kaia, there are lots of things you have to know but now isn't the right time, I can't give you the answers you want even if I wish to, it's up to you to figure out those answers yourself," Cole was being cryptic as he spoke which was getting Kaia annoyed by the second.

"I'm confused and you are just making me more confused, I should figure out the answers myself, how?" She questioned, the frustration already seeping through her bones.

"Do you want your mom to get well? I have the capacity and resources to make her well, it's up to you," Cole swiftly changed the topic as he looked at her. He was aware that what he was about to do wasn't right but it was the only way he could let her stay with him.
