Kaia looked at him and her heart sank deeply. He didn't believe what she said. He didn't believe that she actually came to apologize.
"But," she stopped since she didn't know what to say anymore.
What could she even say? She had already apologized but he didn't believe her. It was up to him at this point.
"I will be in the room," she said and left the study to the room immediately.
Cole watched her leave but didn't stop her. If he did, he will be forced to do things which he didn't want to do. It was best to let her leave. He wasn't ready to complicate things.
He didn't even know how to react to her apology as she had never apologized to him previously.
He was not even expecting her to apologize. The Kaia he knew never apologized.
'Did she change after losing her memory? That can't be possible,' he thought to himself as he spun the pen in his hands.
*The Next Morning*
Kaia woke up and the first spot her eyes went to was the sofa which was empty and it didn't even look like someone slept on it. She was disappointed because she could not find him in the room.
"He probably didn't sleep in this room, and why would he? I hurt him yesterday and also, he didn't think my apology was genuine,' Kaia thought to herself as she gathered the duvet to her body.
Meanwhile, Cole was in the study throughout yesterday. Yes, he didn't come back to the room. But that wasn't his fault.
He was so busy as he had several documents to study and he was exhausted. He had no idea as to when he fell asleep. When he woke up this morning, he blamed himself but well, you can't go back in time. Things had happened. He could only move on.
He quickly left the study and of course, he bumped into two maids who were surprised to see him coming from the study and that too, with the same attire he was on yesterday.
He ignored their gossipy eyes and made his way to his room. Immediately he left, the two maids began to gossip.
"Did you see that? He came out from the study," one whispered to the other.
"Yes I did, do you think the couple didn't spend their wedding night together?" The other whispered in return.
"Think? It's obvious, the two didn't spend their night together but why?" A confused look appeared on the first maid as she began to think of various reasons why their wedding night didn't turn out the way it was meant to be.
"If you are done gossiping about the boss and his wife, you can do what I sent you to do previously," it was Chelsea and she was really mad at the two gossipy maids. It was obvious with the way she glared at the both of them.
"Forgive us head maid," they apologized and quickly escaped from her. Chelsea was quite scary when angry and sometimes, they feared her more than they feared the boss.
'But could what they have said been the truth?' Chelsea asked herself as she pondered deeply.
If it was true, she had to do something to bring them together so it won't be late before they had minis of them running around in the house.
Meanwhile, Cole walked into the room and he was stunned to see her all dressed up. It seems she had a shower as her hair was wet and she was drying it with a towel.
She looked really good and Cole was lost staring at her. Kaia turned to look at him because she felt she wasn't alone in the room.
"Good morning," she greeted cheerfully before continuing what she was doing.
"Kaia," he called and she turned to loo at him with questioning eyes. She wondered why he called her.
"About last night," he started but paused seeing that she had turned her back to him. He was stunned because no one has ever turned their back to him whenever he was discussing with them.
He thought about what might be the reason. Then it dawned on him. She might be angry.
"Are you angry?" He asked tentatively. He wanted to test out the waters.
"About?" She then turned to look at him as she dropped the towel on the table which she was close to.
"Last night, I didn't come into the room, are you angry about that?" He rushed to ask.
"I want to meet my mom, I want to know how she's faring," she requested, completely ignoring his question, shocking him for the second time this morning.
"Kaia, respond to my question," he said with an exasperated sigh. Kaia who had lost her memory was much harder to deal with than the past one.
"What do you want me to say then?" She asked because she was fed up with his incessant questions.
"I want to know if I hurt your feelings, I want to know if you are angry because I want to make it up to you," Cole said and she laughed out loud.
For the first time since she got here, she laughed heartily and it was a very beautiful sight to Cole who couldn't stop staring at her.
"I don't know why you are telling me all these, I believe it's your choice, if you decide not to sleep in the same room with me, then there's no problem," she said with a matter of fact tone.
"Besides, I can't control you," Kaia said while she folded her arms.
She began to ponder on how she got such boldness. She wouldn't dare to talk to him anyhow. He was part of the Williams but here she was, speaking so informal to him and with no ounce of fear.
'What sort of spirit has possessed me? Why am I speaking this way to him?' She thought to herself as a crazy thought flashed through her mind.
'Could it because I know he won't hurt me?' She asked and she laughed in her mind.
'That's wrong but I can't just ignore the fact that I feel he won't do anything to make me cry, I can't deny the fact that I feel safe with him by my side,' she continued to think to herself.
"I told you sorry yesterday, but you didn't respond, it was as though you felt I wasn't genuine enough in my apology," she suddenly spoke out and her voice had a tinge of sadness and heartache to which Cole noticed.
He chuckled at her attempt. Now, this was the Kaia he was conversant with. She would always act cutesy whenever she does something wrong.
"I feel like you didn't come to the room because you were annoyed and angry with me," she continued as she played with her fingers nervously.
'What's wrong with me?' She questioned herself as she knew this wasn't how she normally behaved.
"I'm sorry if I made you sad, I'm not mad at you, i fact, I wasn't expecting your apology, it caught m off guard, hence my lack of reaction," he sad to her and adjusted his eyeglasses.
It was at this moment Kaia noticed his eyeglasses and she frowned. She suddenly felt a sharp pain in her head as it.
"Ah!" She exclaimed in pain as she held her head. Different images flashed through her mind but one was distinct.
She could see herself and Cole in their younger years playing and laughing together but it began to fade. The more she tried to recall, the more her head throbbed.
All these happened in less than 30 seconds before she slumped to the floor.
