Chereads / The Siren System Pirate / Chapter 10 - The Blazing Chase

Chapter 10 - The Blazing Chase

Evelyn rushed down the stairs from her bedroom above the restaurant with new clothes. Burgundy boots, coal gray trousers, burnt orange shirt and a dark gray jacket. She exits the restaurant where she planned to meet Captain Goob and his first mate, Taco, and second mate, Wasabi.

"That outfits suits you much better than that chef's outfit," Goob said noticing Evelyn walking out the front doors.

Evelyn walks up to them and asks, "So what the hell was that stunt you pulled in there?"

"A perfectly hatched plan," Wasabi smiled.

"A sleeping a paralysis gas bomb," Taco said. "There isn't anything much more relaxing than taking a nap after a perfectly good meal. So, once we noticed everyone had finished eating we let off the bombs."

"But you guys didn't fall asleep," Evelyn said.

"That's where the peppermint mixed with unripe persimmons comes from," Goob said. "Peppermint is a kind of numbing agent for the mouth and just enhanced when you add unripe persimmons to the mix. Ripe ones would just taste too good to waste and wouldn't do anything. So, before that happened, we crushed some up, dried them and mixed it with the peppermint. Glad to see it worked." He smiled.

Evelyn casually looked away thinking, "I don't think I should tell him that I never got to that point since the system says I'm immune to the gas anyway." She then looks back at them and asks, "So what's the plan now?"

"We leave and board my ship, and leave this bloody place behind," Goob says with excitement.

"I thought you liked this place?" Evelyn said crossing her arms and smiling at him.

"You'll see in time I was here for other reason's then the good booze," Goob said was he pulled a dagger from his waistband and handed it to Evelyn. "It's a little long compared to traditional daggers. I carved it from the bones of our last sea beast hunt. Don't lose it."

Evelyn and sheathed the dagger to see it was a bridge white sharp dagger. It looked like metal but from what Goob said, it shouldn't be. "So, what about you guys?" She asked.

Taco pulled out a macuahuitl, which is a club with a couple embedded sharp blades. "My macuahuitl might not seem like much but it's death count is high.

Wasabi pulled out a katana from his side, a single edged sword. "I don't have to whack and enemy a few times when I use my katana," he said mocking Taco who just rolled his eyes.

Goob pulled out a crystal from his jacket, squeezed it and the crystal expanded on both ends until it formed a crystal trident. "I'm not only Captain for my leadership." He smiled. "I'm one of the fortunate to have gained powers. Crystaline Pirates is derived from my powers. Now let's get moving. We need to avoid soldier who are on patrol."

They moved out and as turned as soon as they turned the corner of the building.

"Hello, Evelyn," Head General Roxanne said. She had her trusted Generals Felicity and Gabi with her.

 "Shit," Goob said.

"I'm sorry Pirate Captain Goob," Roxanne said. "I didn't realize you had any authority here to interfere with Gabuslma citizen's, let alone, our prisoners," She said. "With the look of your weapons, you look like you're looking for a fight." She smiled.

Goob sighed, "I'm sick and tired of the way I've seen you guys have been treating Evelyn her whole life. Of course she hates it here. You guys discriminate against her because she's an orphan. And Instead of maybe creating orphan laws your island decided to just throw her into slave or labor work? Is this how you guys will treat any other child on this island if they happen to lose their parents?" Goob started arguing.

"You have no authority here, Captain Goob," Roxanne replied sternly. "As much as I hate the embodiment of the devil in that child's form, back away. If you refuse to comply, I swear, your crew will have to look for a new captain."

They were now staring each other down as Evelyn was looking back and forth at them until…

Evelyn liked the sound of what the system was giving her. She looked back and the stare down going on between captain and the general and casted a fire wave in between them and as she started running said, "This way!" As they passed a sign that read "Warehouse district."

"What the hell was that?" Goob yelled from behind her.

"We'll talk about it later," Eelyn replied.

"You are seriously going to regret doing that!" They all heard a voice and looking over their shoulders say the giant general Felicity chasing them.

"Where the hell are the other two?" Taco yelled.

"Most likely going a different route to intercept and trap us," Wasabi added.

"How do we lose her," Goob yelled.

Without saying a word, Evelyn ducked into the island's chocolate factory. It was late so there were no people in the factory or lights present. She could tell that she was the only one who went in, but who was General Felicity truly pursuing? A question that was quickly answered as the door to the factory was ripped off its hinges. Evelyn's recourse was only to continue running through the machinery in the building. Luckily with Evelyn's size it was easy to maneuver around the building. The same couldn't be said for the large general behind her. She only knew how far she was behind her from the loud clanking and thud's Felicity was receiving trying to get around the machinery.

Going up a few flights of stairs, Evelyn had finally reached a dead end. She turned to see an exhausted Felicity finally reach her level facing her. Looked around and underneath were the large tins of the raw chocolate before it was melted. She looked at Felicity, beginning to posture herself and walk toward her. Evelyn closed her eyes and focused her mind then when she opened them, she watched as Felicity fell through the floor into the tins. Evelyn quickly rushed to a control panel for the tins and turned them on. The tins began to heat up and churn. All Evelyn heard was two things. The screams of Felicity in pain and after the silence…

"I just killed someone," she thought to herself. She sat down to wrap her head around the situation and what she had just done. "I- I- I killed…" She looked down at the chocolate churning then said, "Hold on. Did it say congratulations?"

[You gained one flame supercharge.]

"I'm sorry, what?" Evelyn said out loud to the system.

Before she could read the next message that popped up. Another door from below opened and she heard Goob yell, "Evelyn! Are you alright?"

"Just a minute," Evelyn cleared the gap she had Felicity fall through and made her way downstairs. "Are we ready to go?"

Goob examined her and said, "That general followed you in here. You seem a little too fine. Where is she?"

Evelyn pointed at the chocolate barrels that were on. Wide eyed, he looked at Evelyn and said, "I'm proud of you but that's downright torturous."

"Any better than what would happen if she caught me?" Evelyn asked.

Rubbing his head, Goob replied, "No. I mean, I suppose you're not wrong. So what's next?" Taco and Wasabi had just reached up with them.

Evleyn sighed them shamefully admitted, "So back there, the quickest way back to the docks was blocked my General Roxanne. The way we went will take us there, but we will have to go through a couple districts first."

"Then let's go," Goob said getting on the path. "What's next?"

 "The housing district," Evelyn replied.

The group was able to catch their breath once they got to the housing district. "We've never been allowed here," Goob said. "It's citizen territory." Looking at the tall shadow in the distance her said, "Holy hell, is that the school?"

"No, it's the prison," Evelyn replied.

"Oh, the prison is in the housing dis-" He stopped himself and looked at Evelyn with a cheesy smile. "We're currently being pursued by highly trained General's for slaughter and you're joking at a time like this?"

"I would agree," The group heard as General Gabi emerged from the shadows. "Where is Felicity?"

 "Dead," Taco said.

Gabi's eyes went wide at his response. "You're lying." Her expression then went dark and skipped over anger and straight the wraith yelling with demand, "WHO?"

The group standing straight determined to not answer her question dropped their jaws the moment they realized Evelyn had actually raised her hand. "She's going to be the new mystery flavor the next Chocolate Saturday!"

"YOU- YOU- YOU BITCH!" She yelled as she charged for her with a sword drawn but met contact with Wasabi's katana.

"If you haven't realized, she had a dagger. Your weapon is better matched with mine," Wasabi said. He peered back at the group and said, "Go."

"HOW DARE YOU INTERFERE! THAT GIRL DESERVED DEATH!" Gabi yelled.

As Wasabi watched the group scurry away down the district's street, he replied, "Entertain me a bit. I might let you go and meet the same fate she did."

"That's a seahorse shit type of response," she gritted through her teeth.

"Maybe," Wasabi said as he pushed Gabi back far enough, she had to reposition her footing, "But Felicity is the first person Evelyn has ever killed. Did you sense at all that she had any remorse for what she had done?" Gabi just glared at Wasabi. He laughed and said, "That woman is a natural born killer. Whoever her parents were, it was passed down in her blood."

Evelyn grabbed a lantern on the street and she, Goob and Taco were running through the street. "Wait, is that how you did that earlier? Separated us from the General's?" Goob asked.

"Great, he's buying it," Evelyn though. "Yeah," she said. "Did you not see the lantern I had before?"

"Nope," Goob said. "But I'm sure happy you did."

"I'm not really sure how much longer I can hide this," she thought as they approached the courtyard of the school.

"Wow," Goob said with the hands on his hips looking up at the school. "Why the hell is it so big? Are there really that many children on this island?"

"I don't know," Evelyn replied. "We graduate at 16."

"Well, were there a lot of children here when you were 16?" Taco asked.

"Yeah. Not like I could get to know them," Evelyn said sadly.

"I'M COMING FOR YOU!" The team her Gabi yelled. They turned around to see her sprinting for them. Wasabi far behind chasing her.

"I should have saw this coming," Goob said. "Wasabi has always been slow. Let's go." And she entered the school.

Evelyn was using the lantern as an assist as she was running through the halls lighting classrooms ablaze as she passed by.

The system just kept on repeating the same message over and over again but Evelyn didn't have time to stop while Gabi's yelling from somewhere in the building was ringing in her head. She had gotten separated from Goob and the rest of the team again.

She finally reached the school's gymnasium and thought, "I think I need to take a stand here." She looked around then thought, "Or rather…"

Gabi walked through the doors and said, "Finally. Nowhere to run anymore."

Evelyn looked at Gabi and said, "I don't need to run." She got into a stance and began to do the Fire Ballet that Freya had taught her. Immediately, fire began to shoot all over the room. Gabi was screaming as she ran around the room trying to dodge the fireballs all around the room. She finally tripped and one hit her dead in the leg, and she couldn't get up, and Evelyn stopped.

Evelyn looked around to the whole gymnasium engulfed in flames and at the crying in pain Gabi on the floor. She walked up to her and stared at her.

Gabi looked up at her and said, "Well what are you waiting for? You want to kill me? Just do it!"

"Felicity was close enough to kill me. You're helpless," Evelyn said. "I killed her in self-defense."

"Then kill me with mercy," she cried out. "I can't walk and with what you did with this room, it will eventually fall on me. Or the fire will spread to me first."

Evelyn just stared at her. "Killing does grant me 100 exp. That would put me a little closer to Level 4. Whatever that means."

"Please," Gabi begged. Evelyn sighed as she stood up straight. And held her hand out at her. And then Gabi said, "Could you please tell me, what are you? This power you have?"

Evelyn held up her sleeve to reveal here siren mark and as it lit up red she said, "I'm a siren," And a fireball came out ending Gabi's life.

"Seriously, what the hell is this flame supercharge?" She thought to herself. She then heard a large clash and said one of the rafters from the ceiling above her crashed right next to her. "I guess I should not stay here," And rushed out of the gymnasium to the courtyard behind the school where Goob's team was watching the gymnasium go up in flames.

"A small lantern did that?" Goob began laughing.

"And killed a general," Evelyn added.

Goob's team stared at her as she continued looking at the gymnasium. They then exchanged looks with each other.

"So we moving on?" Taco asked.

"Yeah," Evelyn said. "The market district." And they turned and began walking away.

"Unlike the last two districts, we're not meeting a General as soon as we enter," Goob says as they began walking into the market district.

"That's a shame," Taco said stretching his arms as they began approaching one of the market buildings. "I wanted to club a general until they're unrecognizable."

"Must you always be so gruesome?" Wasabi said.

"I'm going to go this way," Evelyn said pointing at the food stalls. "The store has an exit in the back so let's regroup there."

"Not a problem," Goob said. "See you there."

Evelyn made her way down the food stall area. Food was still out but since it was still night, they weren't open. It was a while before they would be. That's not while she chose this path.

"Siren's will?" She says to herself. "There isn't a description on that. What about these stats?"

"I see," Evelyn said. "I guess I've been neglecting this. But am I really that strong? And is being a siren the reason for magic being so high?" She thought for a moment and said, "I feel slow with such a low agility."

[Points added to Agility.]

[Agility: 9]

"Now that that is taken care of," she says as she stepped into the fish section of the outdoor food stalls. She takes in a large whiff of the fish around her and says, "Ladies. Ladies. Not all at once. Please. Please." She laughs to herself.

She walks over to a stall and with a content expression says, "These were more than enough prawns I could have used earlier tonight. Technically, someone just didn't to their damn job."

She turned to walk away and was stopped dead in her tracks, "Hello Evelyn." Roxanne said. "So, you've killed Gabi and Felicity I hear? You know, with crimes like that I don't have to take you to the council first. I can just execute you now. Dead-on-sight."

"What?" Evelyn laughed nervously. "No. There's no way you can know that."

"Gabi's radio was on in her last moments," Roxanne said holding out hers.

"Neptune's Sack. Probably should have checked for that," Evelyn thought. She studied Roxanne, and as her expression turned to confusion she asked, "Why are you hesitating?"

"Is it true?" Roxanne asked.

Crossing her arms, "Is what true?"

"Are you really a siren?" Roxanne said.

Evelyn put her hands on her hips and said, "So you guys do know about sirens?"

 "Answer me," Roxanne said.

"Why aren't they mentioned in any of the books?" Evelyn asked.

Roxanne, getting annoyed, answered, "Because after they saved the world 500 years ago. The Siren's we deemed as heroes became problems. The books are now hidden from the public. Only those who obtain powers now are mentioned anymore. After the war and in the world today."

"I see," Evelyn says. Thinking about the information she had just found out.

"Are you really a Siren Evelyn Black?" Roxanne repeated more sternly.

She sighs, pulls up the sleeve of her arm revealing the mark and says, "Yes. I am."

Pulling out two swords, Roxanne says, "It's not right. You never had those before you left. Siren marks are there since birth."

"Would you believe me if someone gave them to me?" Evelyn laughed pulling out the dagger Goob had given her.

"I'm not afraid of a supernatural terrorist, but you really think you can take me with just a dagger?" Roxanne laughed.

"Okay. A, I have no relation to whatever those siren's did after the war so I think name calling is a little harsh and B," Evelyn quickly looked around and moved to the next stall, put away the dagger and pulled out a frozen swordfish from the bin, "Come at me bitch."
