Leaning backwards, Vincent rested his back on the passenger seat, raised his head up a bit and closed his eyes. Ashlyn, on the other hand, seeing what Vincent did, she adjusted herself properly in the driver's seat and closed the door. Leaning backwards too, she sighed and closed her eyes.
For what seemed like ten minutes, the atmosphere in her car felt cold and restrained as both of them remained silent. Ashlyn, had wanted to say something from the start but she wanted him to talk first and now that he wasn't saying anything, she couldn't hold back. She had to initiate a conversation.
Opening her eyes, Ashlyn turned her head and looked at Vincent who was calm. Her eyes traced his sideline jaw upward to his lips and she gulped down her saliva.
'Oh God! What's going on with me? Why am I thinking about this?' She cautioned herself immediately. Trying to shake away the thought from her head, she massaged her temple till she managed to calm herself down. Now it was time for her to proceed with initiating her conversation.
Clearing her throat, "Those things, what are they?" She asked and waited for an answer. Though, she doubts if she would be successful in initiating a conversation with this man, she still had to try. She couldn't just stay here till day break without saying anything and just remain silent in this akward situation.
Getting no response from him, Ashlyn twisted her question. "Why did they try to harm me? You know what they are right? You weren't scared of them instead it was the other way around."
Hearing her question, though Vincent didn't want to talk, he had no choice. If he still ignored her, he knew she wasn't going to stop asking. No one would, if they were her. She was seeing something like that for the first time in her life and she was the victim so how would she not get curious.
Without opening his eyes, Vincent moved his lips. "Those things aren't from here. they are something dangerous."
"Dangerous? It's obvious... But what do you mean that they're not from here? Where else exist if not here?" Ashlyn curiosity more piqued and she waited for an explanation from Vincent but yet he just remained silent.
Knowing she won't get any explanation, she asked another question. "If those things are dangerous then who are you? What are you? Why did they tremble in fear?" She wasn't expecting an answer and was only trying out her luck but it's like luck was on her side.
"It's normal for anyone to fear anything that's stronger than them." Finally opening his eyes, he turned his head and looked at Ashlyn before saying; "I'm not like them. I'm far more dangerous." He said in a husky voice without blinking an eye.
'Far more dangerous?' Ashlyn scoffed. 'Did he even need to tell me that when it's already obvious. She sensed the dangerous aura surrounding him from the very first day she met him at the park but yet, right now she didn't feel scared of him.
At the club last night when he held her hand tightly, there she feared him but earlier when she saw him come out of that bush, she didn't have any bit of fear for him rather she felt he could save her, why? Was it because those three men that tried to attack her looked more scarier than him? Or what was it? Ashlyn just couldn't put her finger on it.
They was no use thinking about how dangerous this man was and why she wasn't having any atom of fear for him right now. The more she tried to think, the more questions popped up in her head so it was better she dropped it and asked what she really wanted to ask.
"Last night at the bar..."
"You felt familiar and that's why I kept on staring at you. I wasn't going to hurt you." Vincent gave her her answer before she could even finish asking.
"Familiar? You held me so tightly like that just because I felt familiar?" Ashlyn asked in surprise.
"Yes." That was the only short reply Vincent gave before turning his head away, opening the door and coming down from her car. He started walking and Ashlyn wanted to ask him where he was going to but before she could say anything, he was already seating down at the back of her car on the car trunk.
"Did I get him angry?" Ashlyn mused silently.
Meanwhile, anger was the last thing Vincent was feeling right now. He was suffocating inside the car and he felt like he would die if he lasted even a minute in there again.
Not that, it wasn't conducive but he just couldn't contain himself as he stayed closer to Ashlyn. With each breath he took, he inhaled her scent and it made his mind spin but why.
When he carried her out of that bush, her closeness affected him and he felt something raging within him. What was that? He had no idea. All he knew right now was that she was doing something to him without him knowing what it was.
Laying his back down, Vincent folded his left hand at the back of his head and rested his head on top before looking up to the sky. It was a beautiful sight and the perfect one to help him control himself right now.
Ashlyn, still seating down in her car, she pressed a button in her car and the windows opened. She wanted to go outside but she couldn't. She could still feel pain in her legs and also her head where her attacker hit her earlier.
Despite being with this stranger alone here, Ashlyn knew she was safe tonight. This stranger, whatever he is, she knew he will not hurt her or better still she had a feeling of safety with him around.
She was already exhausted from everything that happened today and all she wanted to do was relax her muscles and sleep but she wasn't home so how would she sleep. It was a question that already had an answer. She was being protected by this man so falling asleep here wasn't bad.
Adjusting herself properly, she closed her eyes and pushed everything to the back of her mind and concentrated on only falling asleep and in what felt like a minute, she drifted off to sleep.
