Are we close?"
Vincent heard Ashlyn question and he couldn't help but smile wryly. Was she waiting for his reply first before giving hers or was she thinking of something else. He noticed, both Diego's and Ashlyn's eyes on him as they curiously awaited his answer.
Shrugging off his shoulder, he turned to Diego, "I believe you still have some unfinished business." Vincent said and shot Diego his cold glares.
Diego gulped down his saliva immediately he met Vincent glares. Though he really wanted to hear Vincent's answer, he knew that if he stayed longer it would be bad for him. Standing up from his seat, "I guess my time's up here. I almost forgot I have a lot of work to do." He smiled faintly at Vincent before turning to Ashlyn.
"It was nice meeting you miss Ashlyn." He stretched out his hand for a shake, "I hope we meet some other time when I'm free." He said and Ashlyn accepted his hand with a sweet smile.
Diego, without a once glance at Vincent left immediately to where he had parked his car but yet, he found Ashlyn interesting and would love to meet her again. He had so many questions he wanted to ask her and how she was able to get the attention of that man.
Opening the door of his driver's seat, he looked up at the sky. "I can't wait for this mission to be over." He said and sighed before entering into his car and drove off.
"Are you his boss?" Ashlyn asked in a low voice immediately Diego left.
"Why are you asking?" Vincent answered her with a question.
"You acted like his boss and he left because you told him to."
Vincent heard Ashlyn reason and an unctuous smile formed on his lips. 'Diego? Him? Boss? Was it really the case? Was he really Diego's boss?' He scoffed at the thought. It was far from that... He wasn't Diego's boss... Diego chose to follow him despite being a powerful and important trump card to his enemies. He had said those words indirectly telling him to leave but it was Diego's choice to leave or not. He couldn't do him anything if he didn't leave. Now that he's thinking about it, why.
Why did Diego really follow him despite everything that happened in the past, Despite who he was... Why? Vincent thought as a memory flashed his mind.
*********
Wounded and bruised, Vincent could barely stand on his feet as he knelt down on one knees at the forest that served as a border between his kingdom and another kingdom. The whole forest was covered in darkness and the only source of light was the moon that stood still in the sky ready to bear witness to anything that happens that night.
His face was covered in his own blood and his upper body was terribly bruised and injured and the claw like marks were evidence of the brutality. Around him were pile of bodies laying lifeless on the ground that he had took with hands as he had been fighting since the dawn of the day till it was midnight and still it was looking like the battle was far from ending.
He was surrounded by thousands of warriors from two race of beings; witches and vampires. Their number and fighting prowess were overwhelming and it gave him a hard time especially him dealing with the witches and their spells.
"Ah shit! Is this how I'm going to end?" He said in his head as another spell hit him. This time he fell on his second knees as he felt his stamina betraying him. He has gotten to his limit, his body has become weak, he had no strength to attack or defend.
Knowing they was nothing he could do again he had to give up. He was someone who doesn't give up, someone who was feared because of his strength but yet he wasn't fully developed, he was still young and his body knew exactly when to give up.
"I couldn't even live for a month after their deaths to avenge them... I chose this path hoping to have my revenge but I couldn't even live. Am I that weak? Was it why you died?" Vincent said in his head as he felt another attack hit him.
This time he fell to his back as he looked at the sky. The stars were not many tonight but his eyes managed to glue on one as he felt another of his enemy forming an attack towards him.
"This is it... Father, Mother... I'm sorry." He whispered and closed his eyes ready to take in the last attack and accept his fate. A tear dropped from his eyes and the next thing everything turned silent and pitched black.
"Light... Was this heaven? No, I definitely can't be in heaven. I've killed a lot, I don't qualify to be in heaven." Vincent thought as he blinked his eyes but yet something felt off.
This place, it doesn't give the feel of how he's imagined heaven to be. When he was much younger and was told stories that talked about heaven, this wasn't how it was described. It was supposed to be comfortable and heavenly but instead he felt like he was laying on a thick hard bed and no heavenly feeling attached to it. When his eyes finally cleared open, he could see the clouds and birds flying high and that raised his curiosity even more. Where was he?
He tried remembering what happened to him and all he could remember was closing his eyes followed by darkness.... No, that's not all. They were more things that happened... Yes, now he remembers. A man... someone unfamiliar... He couldn't tell who was the person as he didn't see the face well. His vision were blurry at that time but yet he could tell, it was someone special. The person had counter the attack sent towards him and saved him but how... How was he able to save him despite the numbers of warriors there?
They were lot of questions going on in his head. Who saved him? How did they save him and where was he? Just as he was thinking of this questions, he heard sound of footsteps drawing near and he wondered who it was.
Turning his head, he looked around and found out he was inside a small hut with no roof and the door was closed. Feeling his whole body numb, he tried lifting his fingers and legs up but they felt too heavy to carry.
"Damn! what am I going to do if it's an enemy?" He cursed in frustration as the sound of the footsteps grew louder with every passing second.
Just as he was still thinking of what to do in what felt like a minute, he heard the screeching sound of the wooden door open and an unfamiliar man stepped in.
