Naya immediately ran downstairs hearing the loud crash. She wondered what was going on as she hurried down the stairs. The first thought that popped in her head was that burglars had broken into the house and her guards were trying to stop them.
That was alright. She would just give them some jewels and money and they'd leave. But on her way down, she saw Lucius - her butler - trembling in a corner and looking at her mother, Cara, who seemed to be calming someone down.
Cara glanced at her daughter but returned her gaze immediately to the person. Naya was stunned. Her mother had never ignored her - note the emphasis on the never. This must be serious.
Just then, a voice thundered in the air. " How could you be so careless?!" Victor was having one of his tantrums again. If there was one thing Cara didn't like about her husband, it was his tantrums.
To her, he was as immature as a child. " I give you one job, one job, and you mess it up!! " Cara's ears were hurting because of how loud Victor was yelling. " Would you please calm down?! He only messed up the meeting, he didn't lose the client -"
" How could you say that?!" Victor yelled at her. " Losing the meeting is as good as losing the client!! If the client doesn't have a good impression of us, then that's just the first step in losing him!! " He continued.
" Then, find another one!! - " Cara retorted but Victor snapped at her, " We can't just get another one!! Damon Drakeford is one of the richest entrepreneurs in the country!! We will benefit a lot from a partnership with him!! But now, this idiot messed our chances up by not presenting the slides as promised!! "
Naya couldn't take it anymore and ran over to her mother's side, shouting at her father, " Daddy, don't talk to Mom like that!-"
And that was all she needed to do to earn a slap on the face. Naya was shocked at her father's actions. So was Cara because her mouth hung open when Victor's hand connected with her daughter's face.
" You better just shut up and go to your room!! Why are you even here in the first place?!" Victor snapped. Tears stung Naya's eyes and her vision became blurry.
Victor didn't care even if she was crying blood. She can cry for all he cares. Besides, all she is to him is a blood sucking leech. Naya burst into tears as she ran back to her room not minding her mother who was calling after her.
Cara lost it at the sight of her daughter crying, " If you're angry, then don't take it out on my daughter!! She has nothing to do with this!! All she wants is your love and attention!! She's your daughter!! Yet you treat her like she's nothing to you!! If you're so angry, why don't you take it out on that abomination you call a daughter!!"
Bam!
Cara didn't know what happened. She just felt a sting on her cheek and that's when she realized that Victor had hit her.
Victor looked like a raging bull. How dare he insult the only memory he had left of Diana? She had no right!! Victor grabbed her jaw and this grip was so tight her bones felt like they were being crushed. She knew she was done for.
She shouldn't have insulted Aaliyah. Even though he had left her, he still forbade anyone from saying her name or her mother's saying they were not worthy enough. And that was one thing she didn't understand. He left her, right? He wiped her out of his life. Yet, he still cared about her? It pissed her off.
Victor's face was beginning to turn red and veins were popping out of his head. But just when he was about to snap at Cara, the doorbell rang. Lucius knowing the master was in a foul mood didn't waste time in going to open the door and tell the unexpected visitor the master was not in the mood to see him.
But when he opened the door, he froze.
