Lucius remained frozen as he stood there in shock staring at the figure.
Victor must have noticed Lucius' discomfort because he strode over to the door with an unreadable expression but his jaw dropped when he saw his unexpected visitor.
Aaliyah saw the discomfort on the faces of both men and guessed she would be the one to initiate a conversation. So, she summoned up courage and said, ' Hello, Lucius, father. May I come in?'
' No you may not ' Aaliyah heard a female voice answer behind her father. Her father stepped aside and the female came into view. It was none other than Cara. Of course it was her. The woman loathed her and she was sure it had to do with her inheritance.
Aaliyah was the first child born to Victor before her step siblings, Naya and her twin brother, Noah. She was older with two years. So, legally, she was the one to take most of her father's wealth when he dies.
But obviously, Cara opposed saying Noah was his first son and should. Get most of his properties and the rest can be for Naya, since she and Victor were now legally married. But even though he left her, he was still her father.
He refused Cara's proposal saying Aaliyah was the oldest and after what he had done to her, this was the least he could do. Aaliyah didn't think so. He could just come back to her and abandon his so called family he had now.
But then, she didn't want Naya to go through anything she went through. Though, she hated her, she was still human and wasn't willing to let someone go through what she knew was hell all in the name of payback.
Yeah, she wasn't as heartless as Naya and her mother. But if course, the resentment was still there. ' Why not? ' Aaliyah's voice sounded very calm in the outside but she was boiling inside.
' Because you're not wanted here. Isn't that obvious?' Cara answered. Aaliyah was getting pissed. ' Aunt, I'm -'
' Don't you dare call me that. Who do you think you are?!' Cara yelled slightly, not wanting to attract the neighbours.
Aaliyah let out a frustrated sigh. ' Cara, I'm not here to cause any trouble. I just want to see my bro-' Before Aaliyah could finish, Cara cut her off, ' Who, Harris? He doesn't want you here. So, get out.' Cara said in a calm yet frustrated tone.
' I'm not leaving till I see Harris. Father, it won't take long, I'll be quick -' ' Oh really? Just like the way you quickly almost killed him the last time?' - Note the emphasis on quickly.
Aaliyah was almost at her limit. Though, she carried her mother's looks with her green eyes and auburn hair but she carried her father's short temper. And right now, that temper was almost at it's limit. ' That was two months ago and a mistake-' ' Do what if it was two months-'
And she lost it, ' It's not like you're his mother!!' That made Cara shut up and left a sad look on Victor's face. But he was quick to cover it up before any of the women could see it, specifically his daughter.
' Come in, Aaliyah. The nanny will get Harris' Victor led Aaliyah inside and into the living room and Cara didn't or rather, couldn't say a word. He sat her down and sent for Harris. A few minutes later Harris came running like a mad man down the stairs. He couldn't wait to see his sister.
Harris was just five months old when his mother died so he didn't remember much of her. But one thing he remembered and could never forget about his mother was those beautiful green eyes that gave him the feeling of peace.
He was grateful his sister had them because he could somehow see his mother in her. He was so happy his sister didn't abandon him else, he would never had known how his mother looked like.
His father always told him him Aaliyah had an amazing resemblance with her mother. It was as if she took her mother's face and plastered it on hers.
That was part of the reason that her father could never leave her, at least not completely.
