Feeling uneasy, Trisha uncrossed her legs and looked away. She had come to Azure Bay to establish her career, not to burden another woman with her troubles. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to unload my problems on you."
"That's what I'm here for. Have you talked about this with anyone?"
Trisha pondered for a moment, her thoughts swirling. Talk about it? She chewed on the inside of her cheek nervously. This wasn't the sort of thing you shared with colleagues in the employee lounge. It was too embarrassing, too painful.
The older woman reached out and gently took her hand. "Please, let me help."
Fear held the words captive. Not yet. It was too soon. She was tired of being hurt, tired of trusting only to be betrayed. "Maybe some other time," she murmured, avoiding the elderly woman's gaze.
Trisha finished the rest of her tea in one gulp, then mustered a smile. "Did I mention I'm considering leaving the city? Starting over?"
