Chereads / The Last Rose Left Unturned / Chapter 2 - The past

Chapter 2 - The past

The girl sleeping suddenly opened her eyes then lazily rubbed them, it seemed she wasn't fully awake.

She immediately jolted awake, her eyes widened after something dawned on her mind.

_'Right, I'm dead. so...where am I now? Heaven? Hell? Or maybe a place that has never been heard of? Life after death is actually true.'

Han Jin couldn't smile because she still remembered everything that happened before her death vividly. But she was glad that she was at least free from all that pain and trauma she went through, now she just had to find out where she was. She looked down at herself and smiled when she realized that her skin was still as white and beautiful like that of a porcelain doll.

Han Jin smiled, at least she didn't bring her scars with her.

She shifted her eyes from her skin and glanced at the floor, she found herself lying on a mat filled with so many holes. She immediately recognized the mat because she had slept on this same mat so many times since childhood in her past life until it was completely torn and was finally thrown away.

_'Did I perhaps bring my belongings with me to this unknown place?' Han Jin wondered in a confused state.

Han Jin sat up and glanced at her surroundings but then again she frowned. Why was she in this same room as well? This was the store room of the Han family but it was also her bedroom. She had slept in this room her whole life and was even ' friends ' with the mouses and rats who came as and when they wanted.

_'Did I bring my room with me as well?'

Han Jin was now starting to get confused with the familiar things she was seeing. She eagerly wanted to know exactly where she was.

Han Jin stood up but her legs were very weak and she felt like she could fall down anytime soon.

She however managed and walked towards the all too familiar door but she paused when her fingers touched the doorknob. Her heart missed a beat, she wondered what was going to meet her out there once she pushed open the door. A whole new different world? Or would she meet that same misery just like what she met which led to her death? What kind of people or beings was she going to meet?

After a few minutes, she smiled and pushed open the door with strong energy.

The sun was out and so bright that Han Jin had to cover her face for a while since she wasn't used to the sudden light.

After a few minutes, she removed her hand and opened her eyes, she looked around her and could not believe what her eyes were seeing.

She saw her relatives moving around doing their normal routine just like they did in the past.

Her mother, her older cousin, her aunt and some other people who she had seen in a very long while before she died.

"Hey Han Jin, why are you still standing there and daydreaming? Get your damn ass here and prepare to go out and sell", A young woman who was bent down and sweeping yelled at her upon seeing her.

Han Jin frowned when she heard the woman's words, she then turned around and met the angry eyes of the woman, her biological mother, Soo Jae.

However, Han Jin didn't understand what was going on. Why was she back here in this house and why was her mother speaking to her so casually? Didn't her mother hate her so much after she was falsely accused?

"Hey Han Jin, didn't you hear Aunt? It's already so late yet you're still standing there doing nothing!", Han Shaoze, her cousin, splashed some water on her out of annoyance.

Han Jin drew out of her thoughts and glared at her cousin who had splashed the dirty water on her.

Han Shaoze shivered when their eyes met and walked away angrily.

'What's going on? Why does Shaoze seem to look much more young than last time? Isn't she supposed to be in her husband's home?'

Han Jin took a few steps forward and stopped Han Shaoze from taking any further steps.

"What is it?", Han Shaoze frowned when she realized Han Jin had stopped her.

"What year are we in? Why aren't you in your husband's house?", asked Han Jin. If she remembered correctly, Han Shoaze was forced to get married to a rich elderly man who already had two wives. The man always abused Han Shaoze both physically and sexually and never allowed her to leave his sight. Han Jin therefore did not understand why Han Shaoze was here in the house.

Also, she was starting to suspect something which had never been heard of but something which might be possible judging from how things were going.

"Stupid, what marriage are you talking about? Have you gone crazy? Since when did I get married? Crazy!", Han Shaoze sized up Han Jin before walking away.

Han Jin smiled, she understood what was going on or maybe she understood what had happened. It seemed like she was neither in heaven nor hell but she was still on earth and was back to the past when she was still in her teenage years.

This shocking revelation caused her to gasp. Right now, she was only sixty percent sure of whatever she was thinking. Moreover, she still didn't know what year she was in and didn't want to jump into any unnecessary conclusions. This could turn out to be a dream she might wake up from any moment soon.

Han Jin wiped away the sweat on her forehead and strolled over to a corner and picked up an old wooden tray filled with different varieties of vegetables.

"I'm off to sell", Han Jin informed her mother and then walked out.

The moment she stepped out, she saw a lot of people passing by but none of them paid any attention to her or the things she held.

'They don't seem to know me. Maybe I'm really back to the past?'

Han Jin now had higher hopes and almost believed that she was back to the past.

"Vegetables, fresh vegetables from the farm", Han Jin began her shouting.

Han Jin had just sold off a few vegetables when she saw a familiar figure far ahead in the huge crowd.

"Lin Ming...", Han Jin murmured and dropped the tray of vegetables onto the crowd. Her eyes were now filled with tears as she was reminded of whatever she had gone through in her entire life right from childhood until she died.

The sufferings, the betrayals, the mockery, the hatred, the trauma. She was reminded of all of this and she fell onto the bare ground on her knees. It hurt but she didn't seem to feel it.

'I died, I actually died because I was so stupid. I was so stupid that I was tricked into becoming a fool. Han Jingzi and Zhan Lingmi, those two... I'm going to find them and make them pay for everything they have done to me'
