Chapter 3 - Chapter 2

Waking up slowly, Mystic tried to take in her surroundings, but she was still groggy from the spell. She felt metal on her ankles and wrists when she tried to move. Her heart started to race when she noticed that she was chained to a chair. Quickly looking around the room, she noticed that the chair and her were the only things in the room, besides the iron-looking bars keeping her in here with the extra restraint.

Mystic tried calling upon her magic and failed. She started to panic when she recalled Rikard's words. 'Last Assignment.' He knew that she would possibly die while doing this job. That fucker.

"Look who decided to wake up, Maxwell. The nightingale awoke in its cage." One of the three men said as they walked towards my cell.

"Looks like you're right, Magus. She is awake." The one named Maxwell said with a small smile.

"Well, what do we do with her now?" The third one asked as he scratched his head.

"We'll have to wait for Father to get home from the palace, Mannen." Magus replied to his brother.

Mystic was even more confused that all their names started with an 'M' too. Looking at each of them as she tried to remove the cuffs.

"It's pointless kid. Father made those to keep even a mage couldn't break." Mannen told her.

"Not a mage," was all Mystic stated.

"Such a liar too. I've seen a lot of fire orbs in my life and trust me, they hurt when you are the target." Maxwell replied.

Cocking her head to the side, Mystic tried to call all of her elements at once. The ground shook, the air breezed by, and water gathered near, and fire burned the metal, but they were all weakened by something.

"Holy shit! What the hell was-" Mannen started to ask when Maxwell smacked him in the back of the head.

"Language!" Maxwell snapped. "There is a female present. Father would have smacked you too had he heard that."

"Heard what?" A strange voice asked. Mystic heard footsteps before looking up and seeing a man that was about six foot plus, Deep purple hair and deep purple eyes, and well built.

"Mannen was surprised about something father." Maxwell said as they all slightly bowed their heads.

"Hmm, and who is this child." Their father asked as he looked towards Mystic.

"Don't know. She broke into your office and then the twins did a sleep spell." Maxwell said.

"Who are you child?" Their father asked her.

"No need to know when I'll be dead soon." Mystic mumbled.

"Who said you would die?" He asked.

Mystic just looked at him and cocked an eye that said 'are you stupid' at him.

"Well, switch on the orbs so I can see the girl." Their father said.

"We need to warn you first, father." Magus said as he worried his lower lip between his teeth.

"About what?"

"She looks like a female version of us," Maxwell said.

"Doubtful, just turn the orbs on." He snapped.

Maxwell snapped a finger, and a bright light incased the cell, causing Mystic to close her eyes and wince.

"What in the fuck?" Their father yelled as he took in her appearance. Then when Mystic opened her eyes and looked him in the eyes he gasped. "Child how old are you?"

"Sir, I don't know you to be giving you perinate information." Mystic said to him as she got over her shock.

"Eighteen years ago, my wife died, and I slept with a light mage by mistake, and never seen her again." He said to her.

"And your point is?" Mystic asked with a bored expression.

"Are you, her daughter?"

"No parents," was all she said.

"Blood test now Maxwell!"

Mystic was interested now. Why does he care? Maxwell ran and returned a few minutes later with two vials of yellow liquid in tow.

"Open the cell door." Their father says.

Magus runs to do his father's bidding. As she watches them, they unlock the cell door and Mannen walks in with their father and hands him a small dagger, then holds the vials as the father steps closer to Mystic.

"This will only hurt a little bit."

"Why do you even care if I'm your daughter?" Mystic asks the father.

"There has never been a female in the Midnight family before. If you are my daughter, that means you are a Midnight and will be added to the family register." He told her.

"Knock yourself out Archduke Midnight," Mystic replied with a shrug.

The Archduke raised his brow but went to work. Mystic felt a minor slice on her fingertip, and he grabbed a vial from Mannen, and dropped her blood into each one.

"If, when I add my blood and it makes a white cloud, that will mean you are my child. If it turns black, that will mean you are not mine." Archduke Midnight explained to her.

She raised a brow as she looked at the vials, he was now inserting his blood into, and watched as a cloud of white smoke came from both vials. She stared in disbelief; both had turned white. Maxwell and Magus came into the room and had seen the results.

"I can't be your daughter. You said so yourself, there are only male decedents in your family line." Mystic said in disbelief.

"There is always a first, my child," he replied with a grin. "Now, what is your name?"

Mystic looked at him like he was crazy, but the vials didn't lie. She looked at her now half-brothers and they had the same look.

"My name is Mystic," she told them. So, this is what Rikard meant. She wouldn't return because she had found her father.

"Take off the restrains."

"I can't, they melted." Magus replied.

"Sorry, that is my fault. Fire is my power." Mystic said with a shrug.

"She acts like a Midnight for sure." Maxwell said as he tried to click the restraints open.

"That's for sure," Magus mumbled under his breath.

"I can open them myself, if you want?" Mystic told them.

"Then let's see, little sister," Mannen said to her.

Mystic closed her eyes and called upon her elements. The Fire melted the metal as water kept her hands and ankles protected. Air helped fire as earth started to break the arms and legs of the chair. Next thing she knew, she was free.

"Now that is a powerful little sister." Magus said.

"No shit," Mannen stated and then winced when his father hit the back of his head with his palm.

"No cussing," our father snapped. "She is the first elemental in our line that can call four elements.

"Six," Mystic replied. She called darkness to her, and light sparkled around the black mist as she called upon her light power.

"Holy S-, Moly," Maxwell said, catching himself before he cussed.

"You will need to keep some of those powers hidden Mystic." Father stated.

"Oh, I plan to." Was her reply.

"Follow us, and we can take you to a room that will be yours until we can make up the Sapphire Room." Her father said.

Okay was her only reply, as she followed the men to the room she snuck in through. She looked around for some light orbs to help her see where she was again. Calling upon her fire, she threw it at the fireplace to bring some light into the dim room. Mystic walked over to the double doors that led to the balcony and shut the doors.

Mystic watched as the brothers trudged into the room and looked at her. Then they all said good night and walked out, leaving her shocked that she had a real family. Laying on the bed, Mystic quickly passed out, thinking about her current situation.
