Mystic woke up the next day, ready for her four classes. Last night her father came with Maxwell and Jacob, his advisor, and dropped off her class list, with dates and times. She was a little overwhelmed but was excited to see that she would be learning Dark, Fire, etiquette, and dance today and then Earth, Water, and Air tomorrow and then the next she would be going to the palace to learn light magic from the prince.
Getting up out of bed, Mystic decided to bathe alone, but her maids chose that moment to enter her room. They all fussed about getting her clean and ready for her first day of training. That's what it is. Training all of her elements, becoming stronger, and defeating anyone who tries to harm her new family. When they were done doing her hair and dressing her up in a modest riding habit that just looked like pants and a dress shirt, Mystic walked to the training yard they used for the knights and met with Dante. Dante is here Dark magic teacher and will be training her on controlling her powers today. He wanted to see how well she could control herself while only using one power at a time. She knew how to do combinations but had a hard time controlling them on a one-by-one case.
Upon seeing her teacher enter the training yard, Mystic stood still and let him approach her. When he was with in distance, Mystic bowed her head slightly and greeted her teacher with respect.
"You know how to control multiple powers but let us see if you can control them by themselves." Her teacher Dante said, as he moved in a circle around her, his power coming out to play.
"Yes, Sir," Mystic replied as she slowly called her dark power. Her power was slow to come out alone, almost like it was shy of being in the spotlight. She tugged a little more at the root of her powers and then smiled when it surged out of her faster than before.
"Very good, now I want to see how proficient you are at slamming that power into a target. This is to improve your dexterity, hand to eye coordination, and to make it to where you can just flick your wrist to render your opponent helpless. You can use this in every aspect of your training in every class you take." He said as he demonstrated with a flick of his wrist and cut down one of our training dummies.
Dante worked me over for the full two hours, he also had her move and use her powers at the same time. It was hard but rewarding. By the end of class, Mystic could move and use her power to at least trip up an opponent.
Elvin, her fire teacher, walked out and smiled. He greeted Dante as he walked away and then stood in front of me, looking me up and down and scoffed.
"You may be a Midnight, but I don't see how you could even try to control fire. No one in the Midnight family has ever been able to control fire and I doubt you will be able to learn as well." He said with a sneer.
Rage flowed through Mystic as she unleashed her fire, her eyes flickered red, as her fire spiraled out of every pore of her body, covering her whole body with fire. Mystic took a step towards her new teacher and then stopped. She took a few deep breaths and cooled her rage. A few moments later she heard clapping and upon opening her eyes, her teacher was near her with a smile upon his face. Mystic looked at him like he was crazy.
"Very well done! Your brothers still can't control fire to that degree, I'm amazed that you can control it that well. Rage is power, but it can also be a weakness. If you control your rage, even at a hopeless time, you can control your power. And yes, that was a test," Elvin confirmed for her.
Mystic shook her head, smiled, and got ready to control her fire power. Elvin taught her how to summon a smidgen of her power with lasting results. She would call a single flame to her index fingers and then throw them at the target and put more power into it once it hits its target. Feeling tired and dizzy, Mystic paused to catch her breath, sweat poured down her face.
"We shall end class now. I pushed you because you are the only Midnight that is actively trying to learn about fire." Elvin said as he walked over to the bench and grabbed two books, she didn't notice he had sat down. "This will be your homework, to read both books in the next week and then we will apply the texts to the next weeks training."
Handing her the books, she read the titles. 'The beginner's guide to Fire Magic' and 'The Path of Fire and Combat.' Raising a brow, she whipped the sweat falling into her eyes, and nodded. They talked for a little longer and then she ran to her room to get ready for Dance and Etiquette class.
Coming upon her room, Mystic paused when she saw Mason and Morrison with the crown prince, Morphius. Stopping, she bowed her head in respect, then continued onto her room. However, her brothers and the prince stopped her from continuing her mission to get ready for her Etiquette class.
"Mystic! Where you off to in such a hurry? Come have lunch with us!" Morrison yelled for everyone to hear.
"I have Etiquette class in a little bit, so I need to get ready. I have much to learn if I don't want to embarrass the family." Mystic said as she turned back around to head to her room.
"Mistress Sylvia already said that you can take your class after lunch with us," Mason said with a smirked as he continued to look at her.
"Can I assume that I am allowed to at least tidy myself up before lunch?" She replied with a smirk of her own.
"Of course. We shall wait for you in the dining hall, sis." Morrison replied back with a smirk of his own.
Looking at the twins then at the prince, she nodded her head and walked into her room to get ready for lunch and her last two classes. Her maids, Amanda, Tilly, and Layla were waiting for her, happiness shining brightly up their faces. Amanda and Layla got her into the bath while Tilly readied her dress and accessories.
Amanda and Layla talked to her about her classes as they helped her bathe. When she was done, she went back into her room and got dressed with Tilly's help and left for the dining hall to have lunch with her brothers and the prince. Upon walking up to the door, she sees the normal guards and two others that look to be the prince's guards. The guards she knew went to open the door but was stopped by the prince's guards.
"I suggest you move out of the way so I can join my brothers and the prince for lunch before I'm later then I already am." Mystic commanded in a low voice.
The prince's guards looked at each other and one went in to confirm that she was allowed to enter. After the guards received permission for her to go into the dining hall, Mystic entered the hall. She kept her head held up high as she saw the prince and her brothers glaring at the guards.
"Brothers, Your Highness, I'm sorry for being late." Mystic said with a slight bow of her head then walked towards the empty chair that the prince pulled out for her. Upon sitting down, the prince went back to sit at the head of the table, and she was directly to his right as her brothers, Morrison and Mason sat across from her on his left.
"Don't worry about that," Morrison said as he gestured to the servers to serve the food.
Mason, Morrison, and the prince, Morphius, all chatted with each other as she quietly ate and waited for lunch to be done. When she was done, the maids cleared her dishes and placed a piece of chocolate pie with whipped cream on the top. Morphius stopped talking and was looking at Mystic as she paused when the conversation stopped and looked up. Mystic noticed that they all had paused their conversation.
"I'm sorry, did I interrupt your conversation?" Mystic asks as she picked up her dessert fork.
"Not at all my lady, we were just wondering if the food is to your tastes." Morphius says to her, his eyes never leaving hers as she took a small bite of her pie, his eyes shifted away from her and back towards her brothers.
"The food is wonderful. I have no complaints." She replied to Morphius as she looked at her brothers and smiled.
Her brothers started to talk about how she told off the sword instructor and even had him change their swords. Mystic blushed at the attention she was receiving. Then they brought up the night she had snuck into their father's office undetected. Morphius smiled at Mystic as she bowed her head in embarrassment.
Looking back up after she had regained control of her emotions, Mystic finished her dessert in peace, joining the small talk with her brothers and the prince. Mystic tried to keep her gaze away from Morphius, but it was hard when he made her stomach flutter every time he talked. Mystic knew it was time to leave for her lesson with Mistress Sylvia.
"Please excuse me, Your Highness, brothers. It is time I returned to my lessons." Mystic said as she stood up. Before she could stand fully, prince Morphius was up out of his chair, offering his hand to her in assistance.
The prince walked her to the door and bowed over her hand, kissing the back of her knuckles, and giving her a wide smile when she jumped slightly at the contact and familiar feeling.
