R: Sylvia
L: Cole, Casey, Dona, Max
Narration: Cole turns to her and smiles then he walks up to her desk and she turns to the laptop to him.
Cole: Sylvia, please enough with the Mister thing. I feel embarrassed.
Sylvia: Oops, I am so sorry. Totally forgot.
Cole: Well, it is nothing. Let me see what you have.
Sylvia: Okay, the product is a good one and perfect but the core that is actually meant to provide power for it is composed of Uranium and Radon… two radioactive substances. Under high temperature, the cores could easily melt through the Iron casing placed around it exposing the user to high levels of radiation and in rare and extreme cases, a mini nuclear fusion. I suggest they replace the core casing with reinforced lead to block the radiation.
Cole: Wow! I had no idea. Sylvia, you are really amazing.
Sylvia: Emm, thanks a lot.
Cole: No, I mean literally. I had gone through this project and given it to other high members of the department and we failed to realize this. If I hadn't given this to you as a test, I would have given the Engineering Department a go to produce and God knows how many people could die. I hope you see how important this work is for you.
Sylvia: I know. A lot of people can get hurt from mistakes that we make or fail to realize.
Cole: Later you come by my office. I would like to show you to your now group. You really amazed me.
Sylvia: Thank you, sir.
Cole: And you will need to get the department schedule. Just don't forget to come and stop calling me sir.
Sylvia: Emm, Cole?
Cole: What is it?
Sylvia: When should I stop by your office? You seem like the man that doesn't spend his time in the office. And I Was tipped off that you don't like being disturbed when you are having your lunch which happens to be the only time you enter your office.
Cole: Actually, it is quite true. Who tipped you off?
Sylvia: I think that is irrelevant. So when should I come over?
Cole: You know what, I will send for you. I suggest you print the file and give it to the person close to the door. She will relay it to the Engineering Department and don't send it in a mail, the HOD would consider it important if it was a file than Email.
Sylvia: Alright.
Narration: Cole walks away from Sylvia's desk and Casey turns to Sylvia.
Casey: I would Mail that if I were you. It is faster and still means urgency.
Sylvia: Nah, I think I would rather do what Cole says. I don't want to be in anyone's black book on my first day of work.
Casey: Suit yourself. The printer is at the extreme wall. Click the print button on your computer and go there to take the file.
Sylvia: Thanks.
Narration: Sylvia walks down to the printer and collects the sheet. She grabs a file binder and heads for the message relay girl down beside the door.
Sylvia: Hey.
Dona: Hey, you are the new girl right?
Sylvia: Yeah, the name is Sylvia.
Dona: Dona. So what message do you have for me?
Sylvia: Well, I want you to send this file to the engineering department. To the HOD.
Dona: Okay, I will.
Narration: Sylvia pulls a chair towards her and sit beside Dona.
Sylvia: How does this work actually?
Dona: Well, people send me their mails and I forward it to whoever they want to send it to. The files I hand to those pushing trolleys, they take the files to the department.
Sylvia: So does every department have this or is it just ours?
Dona: Yeah and every floor has a trolley pusher. It is due to network traffic.
Sylvia: Okay, well thanks.
Dona: No thank you. I haven't had a chat with my colleague in years.
Sylvia: Maybe we could do it more often during lunch, just trying to make a difference.
Dona: That would be nice, thanks but I doubt you would be around for lunch.
Intercom: Sylvia, you are needed in the HOD's office now.
Sylvia: I've gotta go. We will continue this discussion later.
Dona: Alright.
Narration: Sylvia makes her way to Cole's office. She takes a deep breath and knock on the door.
Cole: Come in and have a seat.
Narration: Sylvia opens the door and walks into the office which was filled with seven people, five males and two females including Casey. She sat down with her gaze fixed on Cole.
Cole: These are one of the smartest minds in this department and they have come to an agreement that you are a good candidate to be part of their group.
Sylvia: Thank you so much.
Max: Not that we had a choice.
Casey: Ignore Max, he is just having a bad day. Besides we could use a little feminist charm in this group.
Cole: Alright, you can leave.
Narration: Everybody stood up and began to leave the office including Sylvia.
Cole: Emm, not you Sylvia. I want to have a word.
Narration: Sylvia returns to her seat and fix her eyes on Cole.
Cole: I got a mail from the VIP lounge. Obviously the CEO wants to have a word with you.
Sylvia: I will be on my way once I am out of here.
Cole: You might as well as pack your things as you leave the department.
Sylvia: Why? Did I do something wrong?
Cole: On the contrary, you did very well, more like amazing. It is a policy that every newbie shall work for maximum of four hours for three weeks and that four hours' end literally by noon. And it would only be a few minutes before it is noon.
Sylvia: Okay, you really had me there. I will be on my way.
Cole: One more thing. You must have noticed that Max is not actually happy to have you on his group. When you join them try to lay low for a moment and don't try to show off until they have really accepted you as a member.
Sylvia: Thank you, I understand.
Narration: Sylvia walked out of the officer and headed straight for her desk.
Casey: Out already?
Sylvia: Yeah, I wasn't flirting with him you know.
Narration: The two ladies chuckle and Casey help Sylvia pack her things.
Casey: So off for your newbie allowance?
Sylvia: I don't really have a say in the matter. And I have to meet the CEO before I leave.
Casey: Hmm, someone has been a naughty girl. Well, enjoy it while you can.
Sylvia: The allowance or the visit?
Casey: You answer that question yourself. Sylvia, I am really happy that you are on my team.
Sylvia: Thanks girl. I have to go.
