Chapter 6 - 6. A Damsel In Distress.

R: Sylvia Werner.

L: Secretary, Marcus, Receptionist, Gran, Kira, Katy.

Narration: Sylvia walks out of her department and heads for the elevator. She gets in and in a few minutes she is in the VIP lounge. She walks straight for the secretary's desk.

Secretary: Well, if it isn't the CEO's favorite newbie. He is waiting.

Sylvia: Please, your boss and I got off the wrong foot. Emm, can I place my things here?

Secretary: Yeah sure and my name is Mercy. I don't think that we have actually met officially.

Sylvia: thanks, it is Sylvia.

Narration: Sylvia walks up to the door and looks up as if expecting to find a camera. The door opened and she walked in.

Sylvia: You asked to see me.

Marcus: I see you are about to take your privileges of a newbie.

Sylvia: Not like I had a say in the matter. You asked to see me.

Marcus: Right, have a sat.

Narration: Sylvia sits.

Marcus: Quite an impression you made today in your department. I am pretty sure that Cole would be prided to have someone as smart as you in his department.

Sylvia: Weren't you meant to be gone maybe to some all-day appointment or meeting or something?

Marcus: Maybe I was wrong about the impression you made.

Sylvia: I was just doing my job. I don't really seek out to make first impressions.

Marcus: So I have noticed. But if I may, why? Why don't you make first impression to those you meet?

Sylvia: Because I want them to know me for what and who I am and not as a corporate crap that loves to follow the rules and bend to people's will.

Marcus: Wow, never knew you had the wisdom in you.

Sylvia: Well obviously you don't know me well. Mr. Marcus, is there anything you would want me to do for you?

Marcus: Please call me by my first name. I don't want to feel old or bossy.

Sylvia: Okay but don't expect the same privilege from me.

Marcus: Well, I don't want to delay you anymore. You can leave. Go down to the receptionist's desk and sign out. You will be asked to give your fingerprint that you would be using to sign into the building when you arrive every morning.

Sylvia: Thank you.

Marcus: Well, Sylvia, if you need anything you can always come to me for help.

Sylvia: Thank you Marcus but I am most definitely not a damsel in distress. And don't call me Sylvia. We are not on first name basis.

Narration: Sylvia gets up from the chair and walk out of the office.

Mercy: So how did it go?

Sylvia: You have definitely got a tough man as a CEO. Well, I am heading home.

Mercy: Alright, good bye.

Narration: Sylvia walks down the stairs and enters an elevator to the bottom floor. She walks out of the elevator and heads out to the receptionist's desk.

Receptionist: Receptionist desk, how may I help… oh it is you. I take it that you had gotten the job.

Sylvia: Yep, I came to sign out. Obviously my fingerprint is needed here or something.

Receptionist: Yeah, you place your thumb here and sign there the you are free to go.

Narration: Sylvia signs out and walk out of the building. She looks up to the sky and turns back to look at the building. She smiles and brings out her phone then she dials a number while flagging a cab.

Sylvia: Hello Kira, it is me Sylvia. I got the job. Do you think we can meet at the café for a bit of a celebration? And tell Katy that she should come too, I feel good.

Narration: the cab drops Sylvia in front of her house. She pays him and rushes into the house. Her gramps was asleep on his rocking and Gran was knitting.

Gran: Hello darling, back already?

Sylvia: Yep.

Gran: But this is too early. Did the company revoke the job?

Sylvia: No, I got the job.

Gran: Then why come back a few minutes after noon.

Sylvia: It is some kind of policy for the newbies. I got the job but will be closing by noon for the next three weeks.

Gran: Jobs of this generation… what happened to the usual extra hours on the first days.

Sylvia: You know what? I have a meeting with the girls so I will have to go now.

Gran: Your dad said he would be coming home early today. So I suppose you would be back before he gets back.

Sylvia: Can't promise that.

Narration: Sylvia runs up to her room and hurriedly changes out of her corporate wear into a black tight gown. She put on her heels and grabbed a purse then she left.

Sylvia: Gran, I am off. I will try to be back before dinner.

Narration: she runs out of the house and flag down a cab.

Sylvia: The Jitters Café.

Narration: The Cab driver starts the car and drives off.

Narration: the cab stops in front of a café and Sylvia exits the vehicle and slip a dollar bill into the driver's hands. She walks into the café and her hers meet Kira's.

Kira: Over here girl.

Narration: Kira waves to Sylvia who scampers to where Kira and Katy were standing.

Katy: Girl, I heard. I am so happy for you. So how is the place?

Sylvia: the place is good. I am a staff as you can see.

Kira: Already? Girl you got them on fire. So did you see the CEO?

Sylvia: Yeah, a total jerk I might add.

Katy: Really? I heard he is hot. Imagine having someone like him in my life?

Kira: Is there ever a time when you are not thinking about boys or money?

Sylvia: Of course there is …when she is eating.

Narration: Everyone chuckles.

Katy: Com'on girls, we came here to celebrate and not squabble.

Sylvia: Someone is trying to avoid the embarrassment.

Katy: Don't get cocky. I know a good place where we can have fun.

Kira: Well, don't keep us on our toes. Where is it?

Katy: A bar but it opens in four hours.

Sylvia: Guys I think a bar is a bad idea.

Kira: Sorry girl but we are the ones celebrating you. You don't have a choice. Let's just decide on how to use up those four hours.
