Chapter 11 - 11. A job replacement

R: Sylvia Werner.

L: Matt, Marcus.

~

Narration: Sylvia walked out of the department faced down and immediately walked into a man. Files scattered everywhere on the floor, she immediately helps the man to pick the files.

Sylvia: Oh my god I am so sorry.

Matt: No need, I should have watched where I was going.

Narration: they both reached for a file at the same time and then chuckled and recoiled. Sylvia reaches out and picks the file then she hands them over to him.

Matt: Thanks. I am Matt by the way.

Sylvia: Sylvia, nice to meet you.

Matt: Likewise, if I may, where were you off to in such a hurry?

Narration: Sylvia chuckled and fold strands of her hair behind her ear.

Sylvia: home actually. Heard it's a newbie treatment to leave work early and I happen to be privilege enough to be one.

Matt: Me too. I was just about to drop the files and then I will be on my way.

Sylvia: Wow, that is nice. Finally get to meet a newbie around here asides myself.

Matt: You know what, how about I go drop these files and treat you to a lunch. It's the least I can do for walking into you.

Sylvia: No need for you to bother really. It's nothing.

Matt: Please, I insist. And it will just be like a transcending into friendship for both of us.

Sylvia: I would love to but I was asked to see the CEO before I leave and I don't know how long I will be in there and I wouldn't want to keep you…

Matt: Don't worry, I will wait.

Sylvia: Well, I don't seem to have a choice. I will meet you in the reception.

Narration: Sylvia walked down the corridor looking back to steal glance at her newest friend. She walked into the elevator and made an eye contact with him before the door could seal shut.

Narration: Sylvia walked into the VIP lounge and waved at Mercy then she walked up to Marcus office. She stood at the door, looked down and then raised her hand to knock when the door slid open.

Sylvia: You knew I was there but you didn't bother till I raised my hand to knock.

Marcus: The foot mat was not in order; why did you not arrange it today or did you miss it?

Sylvia: I did, just didn't want you to get use to me dressing your foot mat for you every time I am forced to this office.

Marcus: For once, I had actually thought that you would refuse my invitation.

Sylvia: It's not like I was given any choice not to.

Narration: A creepy smile appears on Marcus's face as he studies Sylvia.

Marcus: So, how was the second day?

Sylvia: My second day was the worst day of my life, a living nightmare. You have a company that you don't even run. I resume work today and is assigned in a group of so called specialist whose job is to sit around and relax waiting for jobs to come find them instead of them trying to figure out a way to improve the techs so that those works may not have to come at all.

Marcus: Whoa, slow down. I have to say I wasn't expecting a different answer. But did you have to insult me about not running my company?

Sylvia: It has always been my dream job to work in the famous and well renowned Marc's science and tech industries but this is a total nightmare. I feel like my talents are being misused in that department that I was placed in.

Marcus: So what point are you trying to make?

Sylvia: I want you to remove me from that department and place me in another department that I would see as competition. Besides after what happened in the department this afternoon got people talking and gossip. Some even think that you are rooting for me.

Marcus: Really? And what did you think about their gossip?

Sylvia: I would have to have hit my head really hard to think that there is a possibility for that to happen but that is not why I am here. I want to leave that department.

Marcus: I am so sorry but there is nothing I can do; you will have to stay in that department.

Sylvia: There is nothing you can do or you don't want to do anything, which is it?

Marcus: Sylvia, you would really have to watch tone you use in this company.

Sylvia: what is the use? I won't be working here any longer. If you don't mind I will like to take my leave.

Narration: Sylvia stands up and grabs her bag then turns to leave the office.

Marcus: so you are going to quit your job like that?

Sylvia: if I have to, then yes.

Marcus: Well then, have you considered taking the offer of my personal assistant? It happens to be the only job on vacancy.

Sylvia: On a normal basis, I would have happily declined but I will take the offer and don't expect me to dress your foot mat every day I walk up to this office to see you.

Marcus: You might want to take a seat, let me refresh you on the perks on being my Personal Assistant.

Sylvia: What like a refresher's course? I think I will stand.

Marcus: More or less. You would be moving in with me as my PA and there are certain rules that you would need to know.

Sylvia: Okay; hold up, I would like to sit down now. What do you mean by moving in with you?

Marcus: Well, you will be my personal assistant meaning assisting me wherever I go. And I don't think you would be dressing up like that when walking around with me.

Sylvia: So I should go shopping because you don't like how I dress?

Marcus: No, I will be taking you shopping because I don't like the things you wear.

Sylvia: Okay, I will be here tomorrow for you to instruct me but for now I have a lunch date that I don't want to miss. So if you don't mind, I will like to take my leave.

Marcus: Oh, please do but be here by nine in the morning and dress casual.

Sylvia: As you insist.

Narration: She stands up and walks up to the door than after looking back at Marcus, she walks out of the office.
