R: Sylvia
L: Marcus, Secretary, Cole, Casey.
Sylvia: Wait, what?
Marcus: Is anything wrong?
Sylvia: Your personal assistant? That is the hardest job in the company?
Marcus: Well, yeah. What were you expecting?
Sylvia: I don't know, maybe a head of a particular department or something but not your personal assistant. Maybe I got the wrong impression towards your hardest job.
Marcus: Having second thoughts?
Sylvia: Well no. I guess it is really true about you being a very hard person to put up with for that job to be the hardest.
Marcus: Well that is really bad. I don't think you are ready for it. I will send you to the bio-physics department. You will be a junior staff and do as you told until further notice.
Sylvia: Thank god, that is a relief.
Marcus: I thought you said that you were not having second thoughts?
Sylvia: Well, I was not but I wasn't ready to know what was coming for me. I was brought up never to back away from challenges. So mister…
Marcus: Marcus… the name is Marcus.
Sylvia: Okay, Mr. Marcus, when do I begin?
Marcus: Well, now. My secretary would lead you to your new department.
Sylvia: Thank you. I would have said it was a pleasure meeting you but I was also taught not to lie.
Narration: Sylvia stands up and heads for the door.
Marcus: Sylvia?
Sylvia: Only my friends call me Sylvia, it is miss Werner.
Marcus: Hmm, Miss Werner, you need to be careful out there. Not everyone would appreciate your clean attitude.
Narration: Sylvia walks out of the office and walks up to the secretary's table.
Secretary: Alright, this is your employment form. Sign here and we will be on our way.
Narration: Sylvia signs the files and follows the secretary out of the VIP lounge. They enter an elevator that takes them to the Bio-Physics Department.
Secretary: Alright, this is your new home and I hope you find it good for you. I will have to return to my table.
Sylvia: Alright, thank you so much.
Narration: Sylvia opens the door to the department and walks into a room filled with people all dressed in lab coats. The people were standing in front of the door as if waiting for her to arrive…which they were.
Cole: Alright people!
Narration: A man stepped forward and waved for everyone attention.
Cole: Alright newbie, my name is Cole and this is our little way of welcoming you to our department. If you don't mind, we would like to know you.
Sylvia: Emm, okay. My name is Sylvia and I am thrilled to be here.
Narration: A cake was brought forth and drinks was distributed. Sylvia is led to her new desk and she settles down placing her bag beside her chair on the floor. She is given a slice of cake and a can of soda and receives a lot of welcome from the people around.
Casey: Hi.
Narration: Sylvia turns to see the person seating beside her.
Sylvia: Oh hi.
Casey: Looks like you are not that much thrilled with the welcome party. My name is Casey by the way.
Sylvia: I guess I am not just the party type. Nice to meet you Casey.
Cole: Alright people… let's get back to work. The welcome shenanigan is over.
Sylvia: Is this what you guys do for every new member here?
Casey: Well, not really. But when the HOD saw your credentials and your quality, he was thrilled to have someone like you on his department so I guess that is why you were thrown a party.
Sylvia: Obviously one that I didn't like.
Narration: The two ladies chuckled.
Sylvia: Where is the HOD's office by the way?
Casey: Well it is down the hall but I doubt you will see him there. He is always walking around during the work hours and the only time he is seen in the office is during a break. And trust me, you don't want to disturb him during that period.
Sylvia: Okay then, how can I find him?
Casey: Well, he is the person who welcomed you into the department.
Sylvia: Wait, your HOD is Cole?
Casey: Yep.
Sylvia: Damn, he is so young… and hot.
Casey: Nope, you do not want to be down that road. He is taken.
Sylvia: Not what I meant. Now if you would excuse me, I want to go check him out.
Narration: Sylvia stands up chuckling and looks around for Cole. She sights him with a colleague and immediately heads for his direction.
Sylvia: Excuse me, Mr. Cole?
Cole: Please darling, it is Cole. Mister makes me feel old which I am not.
Sylvia: Okay, Cole it is. Well, I need your help. I don't know what I should do.
Cole: Already eager to work ehh, alright. You are a new staff and is considered the junior amongst us nevertheless, you would be given a laptop. Now as Bio-Physicist, we are meant to understand how the products of out industries work with human life. So, there is a new project that the engineering department are working on. The information and chemicals used in the project will be there and what it is meant to do. Your job is to look at it and get your report when you are done.
Sylvia: Thank you. I will get to work.
Cole: And just so you know, your performance will decide if you will be introduced into a good group or a poor group.
Sylvia: So that is to say that my first day impression determines my place in this department.
Cole: Pretty much that.
Sylvia: I will keep that in mind.
Narration: Sylvia walks back to her desk which was still empty.
Casey: Hey, this came for you. I guess this is your first test.
Narration: Casey holds out a laptop to her.
Sylvia: Thanks. It is and God help me that I don't ruin it.
Narration: After hours of calculating, thinking and literal scratching of the scalp, Sylvia concluded her first assignment and saves it. She sees Cole walking around and calls for him.
Sylvia: Mr. Cole, you need to see this.
