Chapter 19 - Week 1 training

Training is extremely brutal, even for me who has spiritual water. Because there are only 30 of us taking the basic training course, we are all located on one floor. The apartment, named St. Francis Hall, is a five-story building. It is a modern apartment with a minimalistic style consisting of a small bathroom, a bedroom and a kitchen area.

The individual bedrooms consist of a single size bed and a small closet. There is an oak dresser and nightstand next to the bed, as well as a small oak computer desk with a fluorescent light and a second layer of shelf on top to serve as a bookshelf. Both the bedroom and bathroom have a door. As one enters the main door, the kitchen is the first sight, with a small microwave, refrigerator and an electric stove. This is within 2 feet of entering the room. There is also a small 2-person table in the very center of the kitchen. The opposite of the kitchen is a wall which separates the bathroom that can only be entered from the bedroom. The 3-bedroom apartment has the same layout, aside from the bedroom having 3 single beds and the bathroom which has 2 additional rooms separating the toilet and shower.

We were told that our uniform must be hung up and our room must be in order. Beds must be made before we leave, as they would occasionally conduct room checks. Every morning the bugle call goes off at 0530, in which we are required to be in formation. First formation is conducted by Major Tatsuo Shikari who was officially promoted a day before basic started, and who will occasionally lead physical training. He indeed is very handsome and the person I happened to lack eyes with for the briefest of moments at graduation. He is only 28 but in charge of our entire region, of which he does with grace and poise. Even though his face is stoic, it only adds to his charm. He is someone that is out of my league, but I definitely admire. He does not train the full day with us, but whenever he does train with us, it's easy to see how fit he is.

Each day the physical training is changed up to emphasize a different part of the body. Immediately after bugle call and roll call, we would start with warm up, immediately followed by a different workout routine and regiment. After an hour of intense workout, we would perform stretches before being released to get breakfast. As a group we go to the cafeteria where we are in formation before being released. We are given 30 minutes, from the time we are dismissed to get food and eat and then be in formation again for accountability. Mondays and Friday we run anywhere from 5-10 miles around campus immediately following half an hour of physical training. The university itself is about 30.0000 acres in size. We would work out for anywhere from 1/2 hour to 3 hours depending on the day. We also have to learn tactical training on Wednesday, and Tuesday and Thursday we learn basic self-defense on top of our physical training. Because our days are packed between tactical training, physical training and basic military knowledge the days are long, starting at 0530 and ending at 2100.

We only have time for 3 meals a day, which we only have a short amount of time for, and we eat as a group. The first week has been very grueling for many of us, even though I myself am Barely keeping up. The military have transformed our baseball area for low and high crawling. There are barbed wires obstacle courses, swimming required courses, sometimes with full gear and training, as well as team building exercises. Our first week is basically from 0500 until around 2100 every day. I always fill my camelback with spiritual water from space, as I'm no longer able to enter Space since sharing a room and not having time during the day. I'm only able to enter the space when i need to use the bathroom, which is when I'm able to check on the plants and read.

Because everyone is worn out and tired every day, we literally fall asleep as soon as we're done with training and repeat the gruesome days. I limit my time spent in space in order not to seem to be in much better conditions than those around me. Every day I noticed that my status is increasing and have been able to level up at least once a day.
