"John was going through a breakthrough. He could have challenged his dad for head position of the family. Plus he was holding back. He could have really hurt Will." I say.
" So, that's no excuse for them to treat you like that!" Getting up and pacing back and forth Luke says," They were just trying to please him so he wouldn't take over. John is an A rank asshole and Lisa is a bitch too. I don't understand how Amanda and Henry gave birth to them when Hannah and Will are so cool!"
Standing up I wipe the tears from my eyes, clenching the water bottle in an iron grip. Luke stops and sees me heading to the door, grabs my arm.
Looking at my tear stained face, he exhales loudly, all the anger leaving him at once. "I'm sorry, I won't bring it up again. You don't have to go, Harlz."
Not able to stop the tears that continuously fall, I wipe my face and pull my arm out of Luke's grasp. "If John took over the family, my life would turn to hell and he would immediately kick me out. My mom and uncle here were making sure I had a home. They were making sure I still had a family." I say softly. Walking out of the door, "I'll see you later, Luke. Take care."
Once I've entered the stairwell, I take a moment. And once I've calmed down, I go back down to the lobby and exit the building. Walking towards my skimmer, I look at the time. I still have about 20 minutes left since I left earlier than I planned to.
I look at the lake and its beautiful blue-green still waters. On this side, I see a few people walking and a couple relaxing by the edge.
I turn around and go look inside to use their vending machine. With an orange lemonade in my hand, I make my way to a nice spot by the edge of the lake. Laying down on the grass, I stare at the amazing blue sky with streams of white clouds and totally relax.
With the sun's ray bearing down on me, all of the tension from earlier leaves my body and the painful memories are out of my mind. Playing music softly on my phone, I doze off. I wake up startled by a big splash.
"Did someone fall in?" I mutter to myself. I'm looking around when all of a sudden my leg is in excruciating pain as the largest fish I've ever seen wraps his two rows of razor sharp teeth around my ankle and drags me into the lake.
I scream and dig my fingers into the dirt, anything to stop it from pulling me into his domain. Having magic would really help me now.
My efforts have futiled and faster than I think my head is submerged in water. It pulls me to the bottom of the lake and lets go aiming to bite my head off instead.
Screaming in rage as this level zero monster tries to kill me. I come from a magically powerful family, damn it. I should have magic. With tears streaming down my face, I let all of my pain, all of my frustration, all of my hopelessness out into a scream of rage and punched the ugly fish in its face.
The huge fish actually moves back about three feet and I use the moment that it's distracted to swim towards the surface.
I don't make it very far when it bites my other leg and slams me on the lake floor. I hit my head and everything turns dizzy. I can't make out where it is. All I see is a cloud of sand.
No longer dizzy, I swim out of the sand cloud to see the fish fly past me with a severed head barely sticking to his body in a thick stream of blood.
Something's coming towards me incredibly fast and my heart drops to the pit of my stomach. Whatever just killed that thing is about to kill me is the only thing going through my mind when a pair of hands grab me around the waist.
I panic and start screaming, punching and kicking. When my head breaks through the surface.
I take in greedy gulps of air. The first thing I see is loose strands of inky black hair over long thick eyelashes black as night. Strawberry red pouty lips open to reveal a set of shiny parley whites.
"Are you okay? Can you breathe?" A smooth, deep voice like honey champagne asks me while I lean over, coughing like I'm hacking up a lung. Once my coughing fit is over, I look up into beautiful bi colored eyes.
The right eye looks like a red brown and the left a pale blue lavender. Cheekbones sharp enough to cut glass adorn a narrow, straight royal nose with a tattoo of the word wolf and two crescent moons with a straight line drawn through the middle right underneath his left eye.
The smell of a campfire, wood, and vanilla enters my nose and I almost close my eyes and moan. "Are you alright?" He asks louder this time and I noticed the hint of an accent that sounds like nothing I've ever heard of before.
The vibrations from his voice makes my skin break out in goosebumps and not from the cold, I physically shiver. "Are you cold?" He lifts up a hand and a tiny fire appears above his outstretched palm.
The small space between our bodies immediately warms up and he uses both of his hands to rub the heat from his hands along my arms. This time I do moan out loud. Warm enough i manage to stutter out a, "Ttttttthhhh tthhhhhaaan thaaannnnk you."
The little fire floats between our bodies and the water drip from a clothes stops as the heat from the tiny fire dries our clothes.
