Chapter 5 - Late Awakening

He pushes his hair back out of his eyes and I realize how hot he is, like super model hot.

Before with his hair hanging in his eyes, it makes him cute and handsome at the same time showing off the definition of his strong jawline and triangular shaped face making him really pretty.

But now with all of his hair sleeked back, he is extremely gorgeous and smoking hot. The dark grey shirt sticking to his chest shows off his well defined 12 pack abs with purple, red and blue roses tattooed on his neck. Piercings in both ears also makes him give off a dangerous bad boy vibe.

And looking even closer I see a tiny silver stud on the right side of his mouth. I swoon on the inside but on the outside I push my wet hair out of my face, gather my courage, look him in the eye and say, "Thank you for saving my life."

Guys like him are not usually my type. I like the hot nerdy ones but something about him is making my heart race and skip beats like it doesn't know how to work around him.

"No problem, I was just up in that tree there-." He points at a big tree a couple feet right behind where I was laying down.

"-reading when I saw the larkspar pull you into the lake."

As he keeps talking my body heats up and I'm getting really hot and not because of him, like I'm unusually hot. Sort of like a shifter right before they phase into thier animal form.

"I couldn't sense any magic from you earlier when you first walked up, so when you went under and didn't come back up, that confirmed my suspicions." A wry smirk shapes his mouth as he says, " Plus I'm pretty sure they would extend my stay here if I just sat there and watched a level zero larkspur kill you."

I don't know whether to laugh at my situation or punch him in the face. His little flame disappears and he stands up, holding out a hand to help me up. I look up at his sheepish smile and watch his hair fall back into his face.

My heart stops, races, skips a beat, races, stops, races, and skip a beat again. I put my hand in his and stop breathing as I feel a zap of electricity from where our hands connect.

He pulls me up and at first everything is fine, then the world turns upside down and everything goes dark.

I open my eyes to a beautiful scene of a crystal clear lake that spins for miles with beautiful giant mountains in the distance. This lake looks familiar, I think to myself. After a couple of seconds, everything comes rushing back.

I quickly stand up and see that I'm in the same spot as before, as though almost getting killed by a level 0 monster didn't happen. I don't see any wounds or bite marks, and I'm no longer in pain as I was before either. Did any of it even happen? I question to myself.

I remember about the tree and look up behind me to see no one in its branches. I see something out of the corner of my eye and turn my body around. I see him sitting at the trunk of the tree reading a book. I sigh in relief that I'm not crazy and that everything I thought happened did happen.

I look at him just sitting there and he must feel my stare because he looks up. Our eyes lock onto each other. His right eye is hazel, almost like liquid gold, and his left eye is a pale mint green. Earlier, I swear, his eyes were a different color. I've never seen anyone like him.

"I've never seen anyone your age come into power and survive before. " He says to me me with an arched eyebrow.

His words don't make any sense at first and then I feel it, a steady hum and fullness in my core.

I also notice that ever since I hit puberty I finally feel at homen in my skin. And I feel content and really relaxed. Then I really think about what he said and jump up in anger and before I blink I'm standing before him.

A little shocked, my anger lessens as I realize how fast I moved. I just meant to take one step and now I'm standing in front of him. My body moved as soon as I thought of marching over here.

Looking at his face with a curious look on it, my anger returns and I'm more angry than before. "You just sat there while I was coming into power?"

Looking genuinely confused he nods his head and says, "Yeah. "

I lean down towards him face to face and slap him as hard as I can, which is harder than I thought. His head flies to the left and his head stays there for a second before he turns his head quickly to face me.

Both of his eyes are bright crimson red with a scowl on his face. He snarls and growls at me showing off his fangs. Sharp incisors at the top of his mouth. Startled I fall back on my butt, but I don't let that stop me.

I yell, "I could've died! Late awakenings are extremely dangerous, especially at my age, which is 17. Probably the same age as you, by the way!" I cross my arms over my chest and yell at him until I'm red in the face. "You could've went and got someone to help stabilize my power." Wiping away a stray tear I scream, "You really just sat there and watched while I could've died?! You are a real piece of shit! Psychopathic Asshole!"

Finally finished getting everything off my chest, I'm out of breath as I stare at him with a scowl on my face.

He leans back against the trunk of the tree looking real relaxed. "You're alive, aren't you. And besides, lake Tahoke is rich in mana. You swallowed enough of it that I thought it would be enough to stabilize you and guess what? I was right."

He stands up and walks away leaving behind parting words. "You're welcome, by the way."

I punch the ground twice in anger at his blasé way of answering. I get up and fall back down because I moved too fast. I'm getting angry again, I calm down and think. Slowing down my breathing, I feel every movement of my body and feel the strength in every muscle.

I do a couple of easy yoga poses. I definitely got my speed down. With a small smile on my face, I slowly walk back to the parking lot. I think I'm in shock because there is no way that just a couple minutes ago I came into my powers, whatever they are.
