Processing his words, Selena found herself momentarily speechless. She sighed and went to arrange his desk. Leaving his office with the file and her phone she went to the secretaries office to pick up her bag.
Putting the file in her bag, she made her way through the nearly empty office building. The dimly lit corridors created an ambiance of quietude while her footsteps echoed softly as she walked. The contrast between the bustling atmosphere of the day and the serene, late-night solitude was palpable.
Once she reached the parking lot, she spotted Kelvin resting his back patiently on his black sleek car. He unlocked it remotely, and the doors swung open, revealing the luxurious interior bathed in soft, ambient lighting.
"Shall we go now?" Kelvin asked gently as she approached while she nodded her head.
They both entered the car with Kelvin at the driver's seat and Selena at the passenger seat. Turning on his car engine, Kelvin said. "Tell me the direction to your house."
"What?" Selena did not expect what she heard. He had told her earlier that she was going to start living with him starting from today and now he's asking for the direction of her house or has he changed his mind.
Kelvin knew she would be surprised but he had to do it. Tonight he was not going to be at home and he couldn't let Selena stay in his house all by herself, not on her first day.
As they hit the road, Selena stared out the window, lost in thought, while Kelvin focused on the road ahead. It was a comfortable quietude as each absorbed in their own reflections.
Selena's mind drifted back to her dream and she felt her body trembling. What is the meaning of the dream and why did she see Kelvin? Was something bad going to happen to him?
She just couldn't understand why as she tried relating her dream with the one she had before but nothing was connecting. The only connection that the both dream had in common was that it felt real.
It felt like it was going to happen or it's already happening but why, she could still hear his pained voice in her ear and she clenched her fist slowly.
Kelvin noticed what she did but decided not to speak, he too was lost in his own thoughts. When he came back to the office, he had seen her sleeping peacefully and thinking of how he punished her to stand for the whole meeting he decided to let her rest.
Seating down on his chair, he went through some files he had brought with him and just after few minutes, he heard her saying no while shaking her head.
He already knew she was having a nightmare but what was it about. Remembering what her father told him about her, he could already guess that whatever she was dreaming about was the future.
She has his mother's powers so of course she too could see the future in her dreams but whatever this vision was, he knew it would be a bad one and that's why he wanted to know what her dream was about.
Throughout the drive to Selena's house, the cold atmosphere remained wrapped in a distant silence, broken only by Selena's directions.
As they neared Selena's house, she directed Kelvin to the curb in front of her home. The engine idled, and the soft hum of the car filled the otherwise quiet street.
Selena turned to Kelvin, her eyes filled with appreciation. "Thank you for the ride, Kelvin."
"My driver will be here as early as 7:30 so get prepared before then." He said with a straight face.
"I will. Thanks for today." She stepped out of the car, closing the door behind her. "Have a good night." She added.
Kelvin watched as she walked towards her front door. Once she was safely inside, he drove away.
"My little angel." Mr Riley said as he saw his daughter.
"Good evening dad, mum." Selena said and moved to where her parents was. They were both sitting down on the couch with her mother's head on her father's shoulder. If anyone ever saw them like this, they won't believe that they were injured last night.
Shifting the thoughts to the back of her mind, she put a smile on her face and bent slightly to give her parents a soft peck on their cheeks.
"I heard a car sound, who dropped you off?" Mr Riley asked. He could already guess who it was but he wanted to hear it from his daughter's mouth.
"Oh! It's my boss. I worked till late hour so he decided to give me a ride." She said.
"Hmm, I see. He must be a nice man." Mr Riley said in pretence.
"Nice? Oh God, my boss is anything but nice. He's dangerous." She wanted to say but stopped herself. She knows her parents were going to get worried and might even ask her to apply for another company if she told them.
But that was what she thought. She thought her parents doesn't know Kelvin and would not accept her working there or living with him. She had to put a good impression of him if she needed her parents approval.
To her, the reason kelvin dropped her off at her house was for her to tell her parents but that wasn't the reason.
"Dad, mum, there's something I want to tell you both." Selena said in a restrained voice.
"What is it dear?" Her mother asked.
"Hmm..., I don't.., I might," She stammered trying to fix words in order.
"My little angel, why don't you go to your room, freshen up and come down let's eat. Your mum made your favourite and we've been waiting for you so your mother and i are really hungry." Mr Riley said.
"Yes sweetheart, whatever you want to tell us can wait till after dinner or better still we can discuss it over dinner." Mrs Riley supported her husband.
"Okay mum, I'll be right back." Selena said and left to her room.
"What do you think she wants to tell us?" Mrs Riley asked her husband.
"Well, it's definitely going to be her stay with Kelvin." Mr Riley answered
"Are you sure she's going to agree to stay with him? What if she decides to apply for her internship in another company?" Mrs Riley poured out her worries.
"Then let's just wait and hear her out." He replied his wife calmly and stroked her hair gently. "Let's go wait at the table." He guided her to the dinning table.
Selena entered her room taking off her clothes and as the image of Kelvin's body in blood came to her head, she felt fear gripping her heart.
"Should I just tell him my dream or not? At least he would be more careful about things, but what if I'm just overthinking? How can I even tell him and how would he react? Oh God please let this just be a mere dream." She said in a whisper.
She entered her bathroom washing away the day's stress in a soothing shower and she felt her muscles relax. Changing into a comfortable nightwear, she combed her hair neatly and let it flow down her back.
Leaving her room, she arrived at the dining table where her parents were seated comfortably while waiting for her. With a half smile on her lips, she sat down and they began eating.
"Mum, what would you say if I told you that I want to live on my own?" Selena asked
