Kalle hugged the baby dragon and patted its head as the baby dragon calmed down and rested its head on Kalle's shoulder.
Kalle then stared at his surroundings and once again found himself at the start of the slime dungeon.
Not too far away from him, an ordinary light blue slime bounced around in the dimly lit cave, just like before.
Staring at the little bouncing creature with contempt, Kalle aimed his staff toward the little blue creature and sent his fireball toward it.
Without any abilities to defend itself like the elemental slimes had, the ordinary light blue slime soon evaporated from the heat of the fireball and disappeared from the face of the dungeon.
"Staff, can I leave this dungeon?"
'Yes. You can do that by either clearing the dungeon or dying again.'
"...Well, that's that. At least it's worth a shot asking the staff first."
Kalle then prepared himself for another bout with the small bouncing vile creatures.
But before he did all that, he looked at his new companion and asked the staff.
"Staff, although this little one didn't come from a dungeon, can I still make a contract with it? I don't want it to die."
'You are able to make a contract with any creature that's willing to do it.'
The staff's wording for the answer was quite intriguing for Kalle, but he shelved his curiosity for later as he wanted to make sure his new baby dragon wouldn't die from the vile little creatures.
Kalle recalled the words that he needed to say to make a contract and spoke it out loud.
[With the authority given to the Dungeon Sovereign, hereby I, Maverick Kalle, offer you to be my strength. Through thick and thin, we will never be apart even over life and death. Will you accept?]
Instead of kneeling like Grux and Betnulb, the baby dragon just licked Kalle's face once more as a sign of confirmation, and the contract was then formed.
Silvery blue light came from the staff and enveloped the two beings that now had a contract binding over them.
The connection that he felt with the baby dragon was multiplied several times as he could now feel the baby dragon's feelings more clearly than before.
And right now, he could only feel excitement and affection coming from the little creature that could fly as soon as it was born.

However, Kalle didn't see it as a loss at all.

The passive skill that the baby dragon had was the ability to double the user's strength stat.
Although Kalle didn't know how much his strength was displayed in numbers, he felt the difference right away when the contract between him and the baby dragon was finalized.
As for the other skills, Kalle would need to ask the system first and test it out to find out more about them.
But first thing first, after scanning the baby dragon's status, Kalle learned that the baby dragon didn't have a name.
Kalle thought long and hard about it.
After thinking about the characteristics of a dragon that he knew from animations and comics that he read, Kalle decided on a name for his baby dragon companion.
Thanking his 17-year-old self for liking video games and searching name meanings for his username, Kalle remembered a certain name that would suit the baby dragon.
Kalle held the little dragon by its armpits and held it right in front of his head.
"Little one, I will give you the name Edric."
After Kalle finished speaking, the baby dragon's status was updated.
