Chapter 5 - What if?

Their crazy laughter died down after a while. And after Eloise had cried for a few minutes, she stopped and took a peek at Leah from the rearview mirror and noticed Leah had slept off.

"Tsk, how funny of you." She softly whispered and slowly proceeded to start the car and as always and as expected, the car acted up for a bit and wouldn't start.

This was their daily dose with this old car named Elizabeth, Eloise tried starting it for the second time but it still chose to be a bitch.

And while she attempted to start it again for the third time, her eyes caught sight of a group of people walking out of the bar, chatting happily and looking obviously drunk.

That was Ruth and her minions. Just the sight of them was enough to evoke anger inside of Eloise.

She then tried to start the car but this time more aggressively and Elizabeth finally listened and the car started and drove off from the bar's vicinity.

The night was fast approaching and Eloise saw no reason why they should go home early, she decided to drive around the city till it was dark.

That would be great to help vent her anger. And with that, she drove the car at its highest speed even though it still ended up slow compared to the other cars.

"What an Elizabeth you are..." Eloise said under her breath while wishing the car could move any faster because its slow ass was making her even more frustrated.

"If not for the fact that you belong to Leah and mean so much to her, I would have scrapped your ass a long time ago, you belong to the trash!" Eloise repeatedly pressed the car's horn while screaming at it like she was scolding a little child.

Eloise decided to vent on poor Elizabeth, not that the car could hear anything though, it wouldn't even feel hurt by her words anyway.

"You are so pathetic and a loser, just like me. Just move your ass faster! I really want to throw you off a bridge and into a deep sea!" That's right, the car wouldn't feel it, it won't be hurt by her words, it won't...

Maybe not, because not only was the car now moving slowly but in a bumpy manner. It wasn't like this a few seconds ago.

"Don't tell me this car can actually hear me, and have feelings too? Hey, no way, that's just ridiculous."

But the bumpy movement got worse and faster and was now making weird noises. Leaving Eloise in shock.

"Now what?!" Eloise asked, her frustrations were already reaching the sky and would blow up soon.

"Yo Elizabeth, my Eliz, be good... okay? Be..." It was Leah, she seemed to be falling in and out of consciousness and wouldn't stop talking.

Eloise rolled her eyes at Leah for being dramatic even when drunk and wasted. She then decided to just park the damned car somewhere.

After driving for a good minute, Eloise finally found the perfect spot and she parked the and stepped out of it.

The moment she did, she was welcomed by the cold wind blowing during the evening hour, this was just perfect.

Eloise sighed loudly and rested her lower back on the car while staring at the evening sky, the night was fast approaching.

But her head suddenly became preoccupied by the person she had met that afternoon at the shooting scene, of course, it was Ruth.

The moment Eloise saw how friendly Ruth was trying to be at that bar, she just immediately knew it was all fake and a scheme because she had already encountered Ruth that afternoon in her true form, a devil.

One minute Ruth was being a bitch and the next minute she was trying to be nice and friendly, how creative.

However, Eloise could not shove Ruth's words away from her head, they kept replaying and repeating like a broken music box.

'Wake up and know your place? Loser!' Ruth had said those words to her this afternoon. And even the wicked words she had sugarcoated at the bar were fresh in Eloise's memories.

"That's right, I'm a weak loser." Eloise smiled at herself, a bitter smile. It was better she just accepted her fate than trying to be something she could never be.

'We are strong women that would never give up on our dreams.' Suddenly those words popped up in her head that for a moment Eloise thought Leah was speaking but she figured that wasn't the case.

"Tsk, damn these intrusive thoughts. This is not the right time to play with me, got it?" Eloise clicked her tongue, annoyance was evident in her blue eyes.

The evening was cold and just a mere crop top was not enough to protect her from the cold, hence she wrapped her hands around herself for warmth when...

"Yo best friend! Don't be a fucking loser! You got this, do it if you ought. Regret is never a good thing you know, don't hesitate to give yourself a second chance..."

Eloise was so startled when Leah suddenly popped her head out of the car's window and after she had said whatever she said, she passed out again.

"Oh my, I nearly got a heart attack you asshole, I could just..." But Eloise could not finish her words as her brain started replaying Leah's words.

Eloise sighed deeply and decided it was better to just drive home and to just ignore Leah.

She got back into the car and started driving but couldn't get what Leah had said to her of her mind, what if, just what if Leah was right? Maybe she should really consider a second chance...
