Hearing the sudden ring of the doorbell, they both paused and gave each other a short stare.
"You wanna go check the door? Or should I?" Leah asked because that was the only obvious thing they could do at this point.
Eloise shook her head, she turned off the cooking stove and said, "No, I'll just go check it myself." And with that, she walked towards the door.
Deep down within her, she was scared, of course not because of what might be at the door but because of the fact that Ruth somehow found her house address. Who knew what she was up to?
Eloise had kept her whereabouts secret and away from the public, to save herself from the media and so that any rumours about her would easily die off.
But now, for some odd reasons yet to be known, Eloise felt Ruth would do something, something crazy or maybe not.
Perhaps maybe she was just overthinking things, yeah, just maybe.
She got to the door and opened it, curious about who was behind the door. Could it be the dress Ruth talked about? What kind of dress would it be?
As those questions ran through her head, she had already opened the door to find nobody outside. She was about to step out and check only to find a blue box lying on the floor outside her door.
It was a package. Eloise frowned but then bent over to pick up the box from the floor, she checked outside one more time before stepping in and closing the door.
"It's a package," Leah stated, making way for Eloise to drop the box on the kitchen table. "I wonder what's inside." She thought out loud and Eloise gave her a short stare before proceeding to unbox it. She also noticed the package had no delivery label whatsoever.
The unboxing process didn't take much time, all they needed to do was open up the box to find something wrapped in a fancy wrap.
Leah quickly got a scissors which Eloise used to tear up the wrap and voila, a purple lacey dress was seen.
"Wow, a dress it is." Leah gushed, having never seen something this luxurious before. She placed her hands on the dress, trying to feel its texture.
"A beautiful dress too. It's a pity, no one's wearing it because I'm trashing it." Eloise spoke as she held the gown and headed towards the waste bin.
Yeah, that was right, the waste bin. There was no way she would attend whatever party Ruth talked about. A complete nobody like her shouldn't be in places like that and who knew if Ruth was up to something? It's never good news when it comes to Ruth.
Plus, Ruth hated her so much that not only did she ruin her career, but she also stole her boyfriend and tarnished her name and image.
And even with Eloise being at her lowest, Ruth wouldn't hesitate to point a gun at her if she had the chance, so why sell herself off by attending the party that could be a trap?
Realizing what she was planning to do, Leah quickly stopped her by standing in her way.
"What are you doing?" Leah asked, "Yo! Don't tell me you really want to trash that. Are you for real?" Leah asked again, her eyes screaming disbelieve.
"Move." Eloise simply stated, not in the mood for any Leah drama.
"No, I won't. You are failing to see what I'm seeing, aren't you? Ha! How are you being so slow?" Leah snapped, placing her hands on her forehead while eyeing Eloise.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, this is your chance, your golden opportunity. I guess that red-haired was being a bitch just now and or maybe before but you can't let your emotions get to you."
"Forget all that she said and go for this, wear this dress and attend the party, who knows what will happen? Things might just work in your favour." Leah explained, hoping Eloise would understand her point.
"You are being delusional right now, you think that's how it works? You don't know anything."
"I know you know better and that's why I want you to think again. Look, I know if that bitch had never provoked you, you would have attended without hesitation. If it had been someone else who had invited you, you would have agreed immediately and it's because you know better."
"Do not push this opportunity away because of some stupid shit from a red-haired bitch. Go to this party."
Although Leah was just an average high school graduate, she knew how the entertainment industry worked. It wouldn't be difficult for someone to tell that Eloise was a beauty with talent.
And though her career crumbled but not completely, the only way to bounce back was with a little exposure. All Eloise needed was to be noticed by the right person, just the right kind of attention and someone big might pull her up again.
A moment of long silence followed Leah's words and after almost a minute, Eloise broke the silence by asking,
"Fine, let's say I agree. How do I go? I don't know the address."
*Ding
Eloise's phone beeped out of nowhere, a message just popped in. She sighed and checked the message, it came from Ruth, it was the address to the party.
"Y'all really want me to attend." She sighed again and Leah nodded like a rattle even though Eloise's words weren't directed at anyone in particular.
"Fine, I'll go."
