Chapter 1 - ONE

Mama didn't raise a soldier, but Grandpa sure did raise a Devil.

I sat inside the luxurious office of my mother's father waiting for his arrival. I always lived with my mother and her father. They never said anything about my dad so I figured out he wasn't worth it. Besides, I grew up with lots of men around me, and being the only heir of Capo gets me treated like a princess. My grandfather Dominic Slaughter is the Capo of the territory. He doesn't involve me in this mafia thing, men. Mafia men are scum all they have is an attitude higher than Mount Everest and my grandpa is at least better than the rest of them, having a daughter sure does wonders.

Soon Grandpa joined me with a bright smile on his face.

"How are you my little, Jade?"He asks ruffling my hair.

"I am alright. How did your business go?"

Grandpa sighed and took his seat. He was gone to settle a dispute brewing up but it looks like it didn't go well. There are lots of gangs attacking us lately. Our territory is on the brink of ruin. If only I get one chance to make everything alright. Ladies didn't get any chance to rule and honesty no one stood up to go against men either way. Few of the women who tried fell in love and ended up being nothing. All nonsense. They say love changes people but it doesn't mean you have to give up on your goals. I wonder who will flip the table. Maybe I will flip everything around.

"You already know the trouble we are in, so I found a solution but I hope you agree on it. You are the only hope for our territory and family." Said Grandpa with a soft smile.

Wait, looks like it's my time to shine. It feels like he will make me the official heir and next head of the family. I had been waiting for years for this day. I trained hard to be a leader. I nod at Grandpa getting serious.

"Yes, Gramps. I will work hard."I said confidently.

"Good job kiddo, I always have faith in you. So we need this marriage alliance and you are the one who can help me being my only granddaughter." He said.

Wait, what? Marriage. No, I didn't agree to marriage. My eyes widen. Grandpa smiled lost in his thoughts.

"You are just like your mother, ready to help me whenever I want."

"No gramps. I don't agree with this marriage." I cut off his fantasy. Grandpa glance at me confused.

"What, didn't you say you will help me?"He questions.

"Of course, I will help you but I will help you to deal with this mess," I explained.

"I know kiddo you are capable but women never do these things in the mafia."

These thoughts need to be changed. I believe women can rule and lead families. And I will prove it to the world and to gramps too. And marriage with scum mafia men, hell no. All they want is a wife to fuck and entertain them. Even if they say they love them all they do is hold them back from being best. And I am not one of them. I can fight for myself and for my family too.

"I don't believe in such things. I can lead a slaughter family Besides after my mother I am your only heir."I protest. Grandpa sighs.

"That's true I have no son that's why you need to get a husband so I can leave my people with a good leader and power." He said. I shook my head.

"I am capable of leading us. I took lots of training to be a leader our people can look up to."

"I never said you aren't capable but leading being a woman, men don't follow women. And your safety is my priority."

"Then give me some time, I will prove to everyone that I am capable of leading. I will work hard."

I gaze at him determined, ready to protest if he disagrees. Grandpa instead assessed me for a moment then burst out into laughter. I glare at him. He calmed down after watching my expression.

"You are still a rebel as you were when younger. Honestly, I am proud of you right now." Grandpa said with a soft smile. I smile back.

"So do I get a chance?"

"Yes, you are sixteen now. So if you can prove yourself until your eighteenth birthday I will gladly hand over my leadership to you." He said with a very serious expression. Then he added, "You can only marry when you turn eighteen so I think you have enough time."

"I won't disappoint you, it's a promise," I said firmly. Grandpa broke into a smile.

"I will announce you as a temporary head to our men later. And if I like your progress then I will announce you as my official heir. Now kiss me on the cheeks."

I chuckled. Approaching him I hugged him tightly. I am thankful for the opportunity. Maybe I should have asked earlier he would have agreed, better late than never. Pressing a kiss on his cheek I released him.

"Thank you. I am lucky to have a grandfather like you." I said sincerely.

"Of course, you will never get such a handsome grandfather." He said with a humor in his tone.

I chuckled and left his office. Getting back in my room I pulled out my laptop and hacked the cameras in the territory. The first step, get rid of intruders who are hiding inside the territory. There must be a place where they are hiding in.

After a few hours, I heard a loud banging on the door. I know who it is. Placing my laptop aside I opened the door. There he stood Ronnie my best friend and also the person I consider a family event though we aren't blood-related. All I know is that the grandpa took him in even before I was born. My mother raised him with me and his origins are unknown to me. I don't care where he came from, he is my family.

His hair and eyes are dark and his skin is fair. Unlike me who has a light shade of tan skin, brown eyes, and black-brownish hair.

"Had you gone, nuts?" He asks in his usual emotionless tone and flicks my forehead.

I glare at him. He got inside my room and stared at me waiting for an answer. I rubbed my forehead and closed the door behind me. Looks like Grandpa announced me as a temporary leader. I wonder what other men think about his decision. Well, I will find out tomorrow.

"You are the one going nuts. If you do it again I will punch you."I threatened.

"Don't change the topic. You will be a temporary leader for almost two years, it's a dangerous job." Ronnie scolded me. I rolled my eyes.

"I wouldn't get into something without knowing the consequences."

"You are the only heir of Dominic and your mother's only child."

"Like you said I am the only heir so I have to step up. Let me do it and besides, if I don't prove myself then I will back off myself." I added with disbelief. "And don't forget mom considers you as her son."

It doesn't matter if he is blood-related or not, his mom raised him like his own. Ronnie sighed out loud. He approaches me standing an inch away from him. He had calmed down finally.

"You know I am always with you. I just needed to see how serious you are and to scold you a bit. You are always inviting trouble." He said softly. I smiled.

"I will need your help with these things. Guide me since you know this thing better than me."

"Don't worry I will help you and will also make sure you are safe."

There we go. Just wait and watch, I will make us so powerful that we can stand against Elite families alone. I will become a supreme leader and the only female Leader among men.

Grandpa will never regret his decision.
