Chapter 1 - A Book Descends

Beep beep beep

The phone's alarm sounded, after a few seconds his body began to move as he tried to reach for it. Upon checking the time, the urge to still lie in bed began attacking.

He closed his eyes for a tad bit before opening his eyes completely.

"Why did I even decide to set the alarm at four in the morning?!" He began regretting  his decision, but then he was the one who forced himself to wake up early so he can't be mad at someone else.

He took a deep breath before climbing down the bed.

Looking at the window, the sky was still quite dark. This made his expression sour so he decided to forget about it and focus on the reason he made himself wake up at this hour.

Tyler Norman isn't content with his life so he decided to make a change for the better.

He was born premature and as he grew up his body never escaped the stage of being skinny. That's why he thought that exercising, even without gym equipment, can grant him muscles to hide his scrawny body.

He picked this time of the day so he won't be able to disturb his relative that is sleeping on the second floor. Having a room is a bonus so he will be able to exercise peacefully; though truthfully, he's embarrassed on being seen by his family working out in the house.

With this, his exercise began and continued for hours until it was six in the morning.

Tyler almost forgot that it was his first day of college, he smacked his face as he opened the door. Thankfully at this, his sister was up and had already cooked breakfast.

"Morning!" His sister smiled.

He responded back and thanked that his sister seemed to have not noticed.

Tyler didn't waste any more time since he has a class an hour and a half from now.

The rest of the family finally went down when he had just finished eating.

"You'll not be late, why did you eat so aggressively?" His mother asked.

"What aggressive eating, I did not and time is closing in so I'll need to take a bath and change clothes as quickly as I can." Tyler ran towards the restroom as he took a bath.

"That child…" His mother was left speechless and sighed.

After a few minutes.

"Bye, I'll not eat here and eat at the campus" Tyler hurriedly waved goodbye and left home.

Tyler arrived at the campus not too long, it was not his first time coming here but he couldn't help but think of the beauty of such an institution.

The first day of classes proceeded as usual with the introduction and a slight discussion. The day proceeded as planned by the university, it was still the orientation phase so all the professors dismissed them earlier than the specified time.

Tyler wanted to hang on the campus a little more since even if he went home, he doesn't have anything there.

He decided to go to the library, it was supposed to be several decades old,

There was a school here that didn't go well, the campus decided to just renovate and expand their library. This continued to the present date.

You wouldn't be able to know that this library has so much history seeing how modern its exterior is.

He went inside and looked for an empty place to sit down. There weren't many people though since most people go to dining places after class instead of the library. This place would be full if it's in the time period of classes where free people hang here for relaxation and to escape the heat outside.

Seeing that there were not many people, he decided to leave his bag on a seat and went and found a book in the thousands of books stored here.

As he was browsing for a book to read, he caught on something glowing ahead of him.

Tyler, with a book on his hand, decided to inspect where the light was coming from. If it was a light that was never turned off then he ought to turn it off.

A feeling that could only be described as being suffocated slightly seemed to emanate from the door which the light source was coming from.

This made Tyler's face more serious than before, "A gas leak?!"

Gas leaks are serious hazards so he obviously didn't care if it was a library and dashed towards the room.

It was a book.

A book was glowing and was slowly levitating upwards. There in turn, he saw something devilish. A smoke was mimicking a creature, it's not just mimicking the form but the smoke has bright red eyes.

Those eyes weighed heavily into his retina, it seemed to gauge his very soul. He started trembling.

At this moment, the light emitting from the book suddenly erupted and the smoke-like figure disappeared and Tyler, himself, was blown away and lost consciousness.

Time passed by before he started waking up.

As he opened up he saw the same light that struck him which made him shout at the top of his lungs, "Ahhh!!!"

His upper body stood up and breathed frantically.

"Doc, the patient is awake," A nurse called for the doctor.

"Are you okay? Do you remember anything?" The nurse asked, seeing Tyler drenched in sweat.

"Where am I?" Tyler looked around to see that he was in the hospital.

"You're in our school's infirmary," The doctor came and answered Tyler's question seeing that the latter was still in a state of shock.

"Don't be shocked yet, wait for the bad news first. Due to the damages in the library, you're hereby expelled," The doctor seriously said.

"What?!" Tyler didn't even know what had just happened as his memories were pretty juggled up.

Now he's supposed to be expelled?! School hasn't even properly started and yet he's leaving already?

Tyler Norman's heart completely sunk, what just happened?
