Chapter 5 - Chapter 4: A Roller's First Impressions

In order to test out his recently-acquired tool, Roenaldo headed back to the lobby to engage in a few more Turf Wars. Before he went there, he was informed by the news broadcast that Turf Wars would be held on the map of Mahi-Mahi resort. The site was home to swimming pools made for the jellyfish living there. Unfortunately, these pools were a major hazard to Inklings, whose bodies dissolved in deep water due to their weak skin. Taking mental note of this, Roenaldo went to the lobby to queue in for a match. Once he was transported by the elevator to his destination, he was greeted by 2 Inkling girls wielding Splattershots and an Inkling boy holding a giant paintbrush. As everyone was getting ready, a voice came on through the speakers, saying, "Welcome, battlers! Are you ready to get wet? Hopefully not, but we'll see! Let's start!" With that, a bell sounded, prompting Roenaldo's teammates to leap into action.

Roenaldo pressed his Roller to the ground, running forward while inking a path. He noticed that his paintbrush-using ally was also doing the same maneuver, although he was traveling much faster. "Interesting," thought Roenaldo, "That weapon might be a variant of the Splat Roller that I have. I still prefer my weapon though." He pushed forward past a tall, wooden pillar, and came across 2 male, enemy Inklings. Remembering what Sheldon told him about flicking, Roenaldo quickly raised his Roller in the air before slamming it downward, causing the two to be splatted instantly before they could even get a shot in. Feeling the rush of easily handling the competition, Roenaldo continued to roll, inking a solid circle of green around the tower. Before he claimed some more land, Roenaldo dove into the ink to refill his reserve. As he was doing this, a female Inkling hopped on top of the wooden pillar, shooting exploding shots from her flame-adorned gun to paint the ground beneath her with orange. Noticing this, Roenaldo emerged from the ink to fling some ink her direction, only for the spray to fall inches from her feet. Now alerted to Roenaldo's position, the girl fired at him, a determined grin on her face. Although the blast did not hit Roenaldo directly, the following explosion hurt him greatly, and it only took two shots for him to get eliminated.

As his ghost traveled back to his base, he saw that that the girl was intent on keeping the high ground. Knowing this, Roenaldo thought, "How am I supposed to possibly get her? She's too out of reach…" At that moment, an idea popped into Roenaldo's head: he was going to throw a Suction Bomb on top of the pillar to hopefully secure a splat. With this plan, Roenaldo swam discreetly between puddles of green, placing himself 5 feet away from the base of the pillar. Taking care to stay out of sight of his foe, he swiftly retrieved a bomb from its' compartment before hurling it towards the unwary Inkling. She heard the thud of the explosive near her feet and turned her head to find the source of the noise. When she saw the soon-to-explode weapon inches away from her, she jumped to the ground in a panic, giving Roenaldo the perfect chance to strike. He started rolling towards the girl who had landed on her back, and she was not ready to shoot back at her aggressor. Instead, she opened a compartment in her weapon to retrieve an orange flask, which she threw at Roenaldo, causing a smokescreen to appear. As soon as Roenaldo inhaled, he started to feel his mind deteriorating. When he tried to move, he found that his muscles were slow to react to his intentions. Furthermore, his skin became stained with a shimmering, orange veil. As a result, the girl's teammates were soon able to spot the crippled Roenaldo. A male Inkling with a giant paintbrush rushed over to Roenaldo, who could not possibly react in time. When the paintbrush user inevitably caught up to Roenaldo, he unleashed an onslaught of slaps from his weapon, knocking Roenaldo senseless with ink. In a quick fashion, Roenaldo was splatted yet again.

As he was respawning, he started to notice that previously submerged platforms were starting to rise out of the water, greatly increasing the size of the battlefield. When he regained his form, the voice once again came spoke from the speakers, "Attention, Inklings! The stage is changing as we speak! Take advantage of your new environment if you wanna win! Oh, and also there's one minute on the clock." Afterwards, peppy music began to play from the speakers as Roenaldo rolled to the newly-unveiled, wooden platforms. As he was covering turf, he felt the same wild feeling that he had experienced in Sheldon's training room. He was fully aware of what would happen next, so traveled back to his base to unleash his ultimate move. With his hair flaring intensely, he shook his Splat Roller to begin the Killer Wail transformation. As the weapon began its conversion, Roenaldo kept an eye on the enemy team in the center of the resort, waiting for them to gather in a cluster. Soon, the opposing Inklings started to initiate a push towards Roenaldo's base, which he was fully intent on punishing. He yelled powerfully into the Killer Wail's audio canal, activating the weapon's devastating laser attack. Roenaldo watched as the opposition scrambled to escape the beam of destruction, which put them just out of position so that Roenaldo's teammates could splat them. With the enemy's push cancelled, Roenaldo and his team could safely paint a large section of the map. As the clock ticked down, Roenaldo ran as fast as he could with his Roller to the ground, teammates at his side shooting to the left and right. Feeling the pressure that the ticking clock emanated, Roenaldo did not consider the slipperiness of the ink that he was laying down. As a result, he found himself sliding out of control while he was trying to turn a corner. His eyes grew wide with fear as he exclaimed, "No, no, no, no! I'm slipping! I'm going to hit the water!" Unable to combat the inertia of his sprint, Roenaldo fell straight into the deadly liquid of the pool. He cried out as he flailed around in the water, feeling his skin rupture in the massive amounts of H20. In no time at all, he was reduced to only a stain of ink in the water. As this was happening, the voice said, "Time's up! Everyone head back to the Lobby to see your results!" Since Roenaldo was in the process of being revived, he was automatically transported to the Lobby.

Back in the Lobby, the tuxedo cat began to assess the performance of both teams. As Roenaldo had thought, his team had won by a large amount, inciting a loud cheer from his teammates. However, although Roenaldo was very satisfied with his performance as a Splat Roller user, he was still disappointed over how he had made the mistake of letting himself dissolve. While this was true, he did not let his spirits get too dampened, and he celebrated among his allies. As he was high-fiving his associates, he realized that he was supposed to meet up with Captain Cuttlefish for another mission, so he collected his spoils and made his way to the manhole in the street. Once he got there, he made sure that no one was around to see him before diving into Octo Valley.
