Roenaldo emerged in front of Cuttlefish's cabin to find the owner sleeping with a half-eaten crab cake on his chest. Roenaldo called out Cuttlefish's name, causing the old squid to exclaim, "Who? What? Oh, it's you, Roenaldo. I wasn't sleeping just now; I was only resting my eyes! Anyhow, I see that you're back to fulfill your duties. Go ahead and put on your Hero Gear, and we can get started." Roenaldo received his equipment from the captain and went to go change. Deciding to not use his Hero Shot this time, Roenaldo attempted to bring his Splat Roller into a mission, only to be intercepted by Cuttlefish saying, "Ah, ah, ah, bucko. I'm sorry to tell you this, but that Splat Roller will not help you fight those Octarians. It's just not strong enough to deal with those fiends, and I don't want to put you in danger. Besides, isn't that Hero Shot of yours a great weapon?" Roenaldo considered his elder's words before sighing, realizing that he was right. Although he was looking forward to training himself as a Roller user down here, the Octarians were nothing like the young Inklings he faced in Turf Wars. For now, he was just going to have to stick with this reliable weapon. "Alright," he said, "I'll use the Hero Shot." Cuttlefish smiled, saying, "Glad to hear it, soldier. Now come on, go and find that 2nd Octarian kettle!" Roenaldo followed his orders, searching in suspicious places for any traces of a kettle spot. He blasted a certain spot of grass on top of a concrete platform, hearing a slight "tink" sound as he did so. Knowing what this meant, he shot away at the spot, revealing a silver kettle that whistled loudly. He then jumped inside, starting another Zapfish retrieval mission.
When he reached the end of the metal pipe, he arrived in a concrete area reminiscent of a skateboard park. In front of him, Roenaldo saw 3 mechanical creatures that looked like soda bottles with legs. He walked towards them, curious to see what they were, before they immediately turned in his direction. The robots started running towards Roenaldo, flashing an angry red as they began their pursuit. Caught off guard by this display, Roenaldo managed to shoot down 2 of the drones, but one of them managed to reach Roenaldo. It tucked in its' legs and nosedived towards its foe, kamikazeing itself in a burst of purple. Although Roenaldo managed to survive, he was still barely holding on. "Oho," exclaimed Cuttlefish as Roenaldo rested in his ink, "I forgot to tell you about those Octopods! You have to shoot those away before they blow up in your face!" Roenaldo groaned at his captain's bad timing before traversing ahead to the next area.
As Roenaldo shot the power egg-containing crates in his path, he came across another robotic being, except this one looked way more docile and was shaped like a suckerfish. It was busy cleaning the dust off a concrete wall, which had some more crates on top of it. As Roenaldo looked around for another path to travel on, Cuttlefish spoke, "That there is a Squee-G. Those little guys are harmless, so you can just ink that wall and be on your way." Roenaldo shot the tall wall of stone, inking a yellow line to the top. At this, the Squee-G made an electronic chiming sound as it revved up its tiny brushes on its bottom. As Roenaldo was preparing to jump on the wall and swim up, the robot intercepted him as it was cleaning, causing Roenaldo to bump his fins into a metal covering. "Ah," said the captain, "I should've mentioned that Squee-Gs like to suck up any ink they can find. Something about keeping a clean battlefield, I suppose. Roenaldo rubbed his head as he aimed his gun to the far left of the wall and fired a good amount of ink. He allowed the Squee-G to become preoccupied with the decoy so that he could repaint the wall and swim up uninterrupted. On top of the wall was a grate platform that led to a ring of orange boxes. In the middle of the boxes was a swollen pufferfish-like balloon that Cuttlefish called a "balloonfish". Roenaldo was told to shoot the object to make it burst in a yellow explosion, so he complied. The balloonfish took a few hits before it exploded, causing many power eggs to break out. Along with the eggs, a group of 5 Octopods were hiding inside of the crates, and they immediately dashed towards Roenaldo. However, this time Roenaldo was quick to react, and he shot his gun while sweeping it left to right. One by one, the Octopods burst into yellow ink, making the coast clear. "Nice work bucko," congratulated Cuttlefish, "you reacted to that situation like a champ! Keep that mindset, you'll need it to deal with the rest of the enemies here." With a smile on his face, Roenaldo went forward on the grate platform until he came to a floating concrete platform covered in purple ink.
Wading around in the goop were two new circle shaped Octarians that each had a single eye. When Roenaldo drew near, one of the Octarians jumped to attention and rolled forward at a high speed, attempting to tackle Roenaldo. Roenaldo sidestepped to dodge the first Octarian, but was immediately hit by the 2nd ones' follow-up attack. Roenaldo was knocked off of his feet by the impact, and he fell straight onto his behind. As he was recovering, the two octopi continued their assault, forcing Roenaldo to constantly jump out of the way. While this was happening, the captain spoke through the earpiece, saying, "Agent 3, you have to shoot the ground beneath those Octoballs to slow them down! Any ink flies off of them, otherwise!" With this new information, Roenaldo covered a path in front of one of the Octoballs, making sure to evade the other one. As a result, the Octoballs' skin became stuck to the foreign yellow ink, and it flailed its legs in an attempt to free itself. At this, Roenaldo shot the octopus directly in the back, leaving only its' partner to deal with. Roenaldo applied the same strategy, allowing for a clean victory. He pressed on, shooting small boxes that lined the long, concrete platform, one of which contained a handy chest plate of Hero Armor.
When he got to the end of the path, he could see that there was a very large group of Octotroopers and Twintacle Octotroopers on the ground below him. Cuttlefish noticed this, remarking, "Sweet mother of Neptune! Look at all of those Octarians! Going in there with just your Hero Shot would be a death wish. I wonder if there's any other way to handle this predicament…" Before Roenaldo could think up a plan, a medium-sized ammo shell exploded 5 feet away from him. Startled, Roenaldo turned to the left to find the source of the projectile. What he found was a grey machine that had a long, thin cannon emerging from its' front. The machine shot another purple ink-filled shell towards Roenaldo, with this one getting a bit closer to actually hitting him. He rolled his eyes, saying, "Whatever's shooting these bombs at me sure has bad aim!" Not wanting to risk getting struck, Roenaldo inked a path towards the cannon and swam quickly along it. Once he reached the cannon, he discovered that it was being manned by a frustrated-looking Octotrooper, which Roenaldo quickly dispatched of. After the Octarian burst, the purple platform beneath it turned a dull gray, revealing a small entrance hatch. "Great seeking, agent," said Cuttlefish, "It's a good thing that that Octoslob was such a dunce with that cannon, huh? I bet that you could use it way better!"
Out of curiosity, Roenaldo morphed into a squid and dove into the small hatch, causing an automatic mechanism to hook up a tube to Roenaldo's mantle and bring up a control module and a set of wide lenses. There were a surprisingly low number of controls, with there only being a joystick and a red button. Roenaldo fiddled around with the joystick, which caused the cannon to move left and right, up and down. Once a Twintacle Octotrooper standing atop a pile of boxes was within his sights, he excitedly pressed the red button, causing a yellow missile to fly towards its' victim. Doing this action took out a lot of ink from Roenaldo's ink sac, but it was exchanged for a devastating explosion that took out 3 Octotroopers. Roenaldo shot 2 other shots at the left and right of the Octarian-filled area, and he was able to efficiently clear the mob. "Attaboy," exclaimed Cuttlefish, "Marvelous shooting with that cannon. I'm starting to get a reading from your Hero Suit; that must mean that a Zapfish is nearby!" Roenaldo jumped down to the now Octarian-less platform below and snooped around, finding another decrepit piece of text in the rubble of a wooden box. More importantly, he found a medium-sized hole in the middle of the large platform. When he jumped inside it, he found a struggling Zapfish inside. He shot the electric forcefield with his ink, causing the barrier to shatter as the Zapfish squealed in shock. "Hey little guy," said Roenaldo, "I'm here to rescue you. Please don't shock me this time..." Despite Roenaldo's wishes, the electric fish still administered a hearty shock to the poor Inkling, leaving him with a numb feeling. Cuttlefish laughed over the headset, "Oh, ho ho, having a little trouble with the Zapfish, aren't ya? Don't feel too bad, they do that whenever they're surprised. Anyhow, let me send over a drone to pick you up." Soon afterward, the same drill-adorned machine came flying in, allowing Roenaldo to escape the Octarian base.
When Roenaldo emerged back to the surface, he discovered that there was a vastly larger and darker kettle in the back of the concrete island, and the lock on it was jiggling slightly. "Hey captain," he inquired, "What's up with that big kettle in the back? It's not invisible like the others." Cuttlefish looked over from his shack, answering, "That there's a boss kettle, home to one of the Great Octoweapons, Octarian superweapons that were used in the Great Turf War. To unlock one, you must remove the Zapfish from the other bases in the area. Don't ask me about the science behind it though; I never understood Octarian technology. Fortunately, there's only one more Zapfish to save in this area, so how's about we hop to it?" Seeing no problem with this logic, Roenaldo searched the place for the last concealed kettle, which he found near a lone tree to the right. He dipped inside, beginning his final mission of the area.
Once he reached the bottom of the tube, he looked out in front of him to find a lair riddled with small, evenly spaced platforms. "Listen up," the captain said, "It looks like you'll have to apply some swimming skills to get past these platforms. Try inking those platforms, swimming in your squid form, and jumping to the next one." Roenaldo took heed of this advice, shooting a path pointing towards the 1st concrete platform. He then transformed into a squid and swam as fast as he could, with his fins flapping to their maximum capacity. Finally, when he reached the end of his path, he launched himself upward to land safely on the suspended pillar. He kept his mind clear as he repeated the process, hopping from platform to platform, making sure that his ink supply was at a healthy amount. In no time at all, Roenaldo was on a reliable, large, metal platform. "Outstanding," applauded Cuttlefish, "That was some fantastic jumping you just did. I knew that I picked the right Inkling to participate in the NSS. Keep on going!" As Roenaldo was reveling in his success, he started to hear the whirr of blades. Following the noise was the appearance of 5 small Octarians with strange caps that allowed them to fly with the use of propellers. They started a coordinated attack, flying in circles around Roenaldo as they shot purple ink from nozzles on their hats. Roenaldo nimbly dodged as Cuttlefish told him, "These Octocopters are no problem. Shoot them out of the sky!" Roenaldo turned his body in the opposite direction that the Octocopters were spinning, ejecting ink from his gun as he went. True to the captains' word, the enemies went down very quickly. As one of the octopi burst, a computer chip fell from its' hat, causing a launch pad to become visible. Roenaldo took the opportunity to utilize the pad, launching himself to the next area.
When he landed, Roenaldo came across a dark, black, circular object situated on a polymer platform. There was nothing but an abyss in front of the object, leaving Roenaldo with no way of progressing. "Ahoy," called the captain, "There goes an Inkrail. Shoot it with your ink to create a line of ink to swim across." Roenaldo did as the captain said, applying 3 shots of yellow ink to the contraption. When he did so, a zigzagging path to a faraway platform formed, with the vertexes being smaller black objects. The larger black object had also become yellow due to Roenaldo's ink. He dove into the now-colored entry point to find himself somehow suspended by the thin trail of ink. He looked down to find that he could not even see the bottom of the drop that lingered below him. He gulped nervously, knowing that if he went back to his humanoid form, he would meet his doom. Still, he pushed that worry aside as he swam forward, sure of his own aptitude. As he progressed, he noticed that 6 more Octocopters were flying onto the scene, their sights set on him. "Blast," exclaimed the captain, "Octocopters off the port bow! Jump out of the way of their shots if you want to get out alive!" The Octocopters started firing all at once, full of intent to take down their adversary. Roenaldo swam as fast as possible, swiftly dodging purple blasts by leaping off of the ink line and carefully landing safely back into it. He continued doing this while traveling through over 100 feet of ink. Finally, he was able to rest when he got to the terminal end of the Inkrail.
Once he arrived there, he was able to smoothly take care of the pursuing Octocopters. He jumped for joy, exclaiming a "booyah" before traveling further into the lair. Soon, Roenaldo came across 4 tall, cylindrical pillars sitting in an area covered in purple ink. Knowing what could be concealed in enemy ink, Roenaldo thoroughly coated the purple with his own yellow, revealing 2 scuba goggles wearing Octotroopers, which Roenaldo quickly disposed of. This distracted him from another 2 Octocopters that flew in from behind one of the pillars, so they managed to shoot Roenaldo 2 times. "Man," grumbled Roenaldo as he shot the octopi down, "How many of these flying things am I going to have to deal with?" After dealing with the minor inconvenience, Roenaldo splattered the sides of the pillar to climb them, discovering small boxes of power eggs as a result. Furthermore, he came across another piece of mysterious text as well as a tin can with a picture of a bazooka on it. As Roenaldo inspected it, he was told by Cuttlefish, "Sink me! It's a canned special! Inside that can is a powerful food that can instantly increase your vigor and enhance your weapon temporarily! I believe that that one contains food for the Inkzooka special."
Roenaldo used his sharp teeth to cut open the top of the container, revealing some tightly packed sardines. Roenaldo ingested the juicy fishes, enjoying their salty and oily taste. He immediately felt the effects of the strange food as his tentacles flared with the fury of the raging sea, and his brain erupted with the sensation of massive excitement. Unable to control his emotion-filled actions any longer, he ran forward with the speed of a swordfish, ending up in an area filled with Twintacle Octotroopers and a heavy-set, flying cap wearing Octarian. "Watch out boyo," said Cuttlefish, "That's an Octobomber. It's going to launch Splat Bombs at you if you do-" Before the captain could even finish his sentence, Roenaldo shook his Hero Shot, causing it to morph into a long, green bazooka with an orange tip. Yelling a rage-driven battle cry, Roenaldo held the trigger of the weapon to fire mini, yellow ink tornados at the terrified Octarians. The octopi stood no chance against Roenaldo's onslaught, and their bodies were torn apart by the chaotic, swirling ink. After the Inkzooka ran out of ammo, Roenaldo's hair went back to its' normal state, and the area was clear of Octarians. "Blimey!" exclaimed the captain, "Never mind! You sunk that Octobomber and its' friends! I can sense the presence of a Zapfish nearby, so get to searching." Roenaldo ran around the area, looking around the yellow ink-covered blocks and metallic remains. He then found another Inkrail hidden behind a rectangular block, which when activated created a line that headed under the platform Roenaldo was standing on. He swam on it, ending up on a small platform where a Zapfish was encased in electricity. Roenaldo freed it, preparing to be shocked again. This time, however, the Zapfish was asleep, so Roenaldo was able to avoid punishment. When the capsule arrived, he practiced caution in entering to make sure that he did not wake the fish.
