New Beginnings, Chapter 28
This is the end for me, eh? I suppose this could be yet another exciting afterlife experience for me. When Wolford's existence was on the point of being erased, he found himself in a black, limitless emptiness, where his words reverberated. There was a moment of silence, a time to think on the unknowns that lay ahead.
A dazzling white light surrounded Wolford as he continued talking to himself in the emptiness. The guardian's senses were overpowered by its radiance, and all he could do was surrender to its embrace.
Slowly opening his eyes, he took in his surroundings and was surprised by the state of the room he was in. As he got out of a messy bed, his eyes darted over the room.
"A room? The disarray is shocking. In the empty room, Wolford's voice resounded with his comment. His perceptive eyes took in all the clutter, from the strewn papers to the jumbled books.
But something else, much more disturbing, caught his eye. The once-familiar energies were no longer permeating his body in the same way. Distinctly lacking were the fearsome talents he had held as Eldoria's guardian, the abilities that had long defined him.
His shock was muted by the sobering thought that he had met his death at the hands of a formidable foe—the Ascendants' leader. They were the ones who had the best chance of draining him of his superpowers.
Wolford mumbled, "Well... I should first discover where I am," as he warily climbed out of the unmade bed. He started looking around him, trying to make sense of the strange place and its vibe.
The more he explored, the more familiar the setting seemed. As he looked closer, the familiarity hit him. He had lived there before he became Eldoria's protector, and he still considered it home.
Questions flooded Wolford's head. How did he get back here? When he returned, what news did he find? Plus, without his cosmic abilities, which had defined him for eons, who was he?
The former protector of Eldoria set out to rediscover the world he had abandoned with equal parts apprehension and intrigue.
