Wolford was awakened by the sudden disruption of the room's previously tranquil atmosphere. He squinted groggily as he tried to process the unexpected noises that had jolted him out of a deep sleep.
After twenty seconds of the noise continuing, Wolford opened his eyes and looked at the small rectangular object in his hand that was creating the constant alert. A furrow appeared in his brow as he examined the apparatus, indicating that he was confused.
"Huh? "What is this, exactly?" Wolford grumbled to himself as it took a moment for the concept of the ear-piercing gadget to sink in. After all, the specifics of Earth's technological advancements were beginning to blur together in his consciousness.
It took him another five seconds to come up with the name. To which she replied, "Ah, yes, it most certainly was something on Earth that was referred to as a 'phone'..."
He wondered over what was going on in front of the TV, watching with a bewildered expression. Instantly, his eyes were pulled to the clock, which was displayed in bold digits as "11 AM." The blinking red numbers mocked him with their intensity.
It's the "Alarm for what?" moment. Wolford murmured, his memories of the past giving him with just fragments of the whole picture. Although he was well-versed in alarms and knew their purpose, he could not recall what had triggered this one.
After giving it some thought, he decided to turn off the distracting gadget. With a swipe of his finger over the screen, the alarm was turned off, and he was soon back in the warm embrace of sleep.
Before Wolford drifted off to sleep, he reflected on the peculiarities of the world he had recently returned to. Earth, with its everyday mysteries and technological marvels, offered the opportunity for growth and development. But right now, all he wanted was to sleep and lose himself in the nirvana of forgetfulness.
