Tessy made sure to keep her distance and handed her a handkerchief.
"What... why are you so curious all of a sudden?" Rain asked after wiping her mouth and dress.
"I don't know! It just came to mind!"
"Well, I am. I mean, it's not like I have a boyfriend. I haven't had a boyfriend since high school. And even if I did have one, the highest we went was probably kissing, nothing more."
"So one must kiss her boyfriend?"
"Yeah!" Rain answered without thinking and she noticed Tessy's awkward state. "Wait! That's not exactly what I mean."
Tessy looked at her in confusion.
"I mean, not every girl likes to kiss her boyfriend, so it's not at all necessary. In your case, he knows about your situation and I'm sure he wouldn't mind."
"Are you sure?" Tessy asked, which gave Rain a bit of doubt about her words.
"Just relax. I'm sure that if he isn't comfortable about it, he'll let you know, okay?" Rain assured and Tessy nodded. "Now it feels like I'm the older one."
"Well, you kinda are." Tessy confessed.
"Excuse me?" She thought she didn't hear it clearly and heard wrong.
"I said you're older than me." Tessy repeated.
"That's... that's impossible! You... me? I... I am older than you?" It was almost impossible hearing it from Tessy. If she heard it from someone else, she wouldn't believe it at all.
"I'm just 16 years old. Tomorrow I'll be 17." Tessy said and Rain's mind exploded. All this while she thought that Tessy was older because she looked and acted older.
"This is to say, you're a minor." Rain said in realisation. Tessy just stared at her. "All this while, I've been older than you but I was tutored by you. I was tutored by a minor. How is it that you're so smart?"
"I was homeschooled and learned everything before coming here. I just wanted to experience how normal girls were and so persisted on coming here." Tessy explained to Rain's understanding.
"It's such a waste. If I was homeschooled I'd probably be working by now." Rain said it like it was a piece of cake.
"It's not so easy. Your brain may not be able to carry it all." Tessy laughed and Rain felt insulted but it was kinda true. Her type of brain couldn't hold in so much information at a young age.
"We're here!" The driver announced and they got out.
Tessy stared at the house. It gave her an odd feeling that she just couldn't explain.
"It's getting late. I think I should go." Tessy said and Rain frowned.
"But you just got here!" She whined.
"You know what?"
"What?"
"I feel ashamed to be younger than you." Tessy chuckled as Rain's head grew hot. "Bye!" She said and entered her own car. The driver had already driven away before rain understood what Tessy did.
"She did that on purpose!" She took out her phone to call her.
Tessy got the call and picked it. "Speak!"
"How could you say that and just leave me? It's like I don't even know you anymore."
"You never knew me!" Tessy said harshly.
"You... you..." She started crying over the phone that Tessy had to move it away from her ear.
"Okay, okay! I will use no more harsh words!" She said and cut the call. Her phone rang again and she picked it without looking at the caller ID. "I said no more..."
"Miss Windell?" It was a lady's voice, one that Tessy would presume to be around 40 or so.
"That's me. May I know who you are?" Tessy requested.
"I am Kate Lukeman." The lady said.
'Lukeman? Isn't that Chad's family?' she thought. "Can I help you with anything? I don't seem to know you." She said sternly.
"You don't know me but you know my son. We need to talk." She said, "I'll send you the address and time to meet. Don't be late. I hate waiting!" She said and cut the call.
"What a rude old lady!" Tessy exclaimed.
She looked out the window and scoffed.
"You wanna see me yet you give me orders." She smirked. "Okay, I'll just go and see for myself. Let's hear what she has to say." She turned to the driver. "Drive faster!"
