After walking out the door, Tessy remembered her phone and walked back in to take it. Rain thought that she had come back to hear her out but Tessy didn't give her a listening ear and just picked up her phone.
"Tessy!" Rain called so passionately that she had to stop. She turned to look at Rain and muttered out softly.
"Why did it have to use you?"
With that she ran out of the door, not minding Rain's constant plea and begging.
After running a long distance, she stopped at a lamp post and leaned on it. All those emotions that she had been holding back wanted to burst out but she didn't let them.
"Ha! Hahaha! Who am I kidding?" She laughed. "Did I ever think that I would find happiness with this curse? It's impossible. I bring about nothing but misfortune, that's just it."
She thought back to the scene that just unfolded and felt warm tears flowing down her cheeks. The last time she cried was when she was five, because of her realization but this time it was due to an ugly betrayal.
"Why am I crying? It's not like the happiness would last. I knew it wouldn't." She cleaned her tears with the back of her palm. "Hmph! Happiness." She repeated and thought of all the times they spent together.
How it was able to make her smile when nothing in the world could. A gentle smile played on her lips.
"But… it felt so good to be happy." She exclaimed. "Even if it was for a short while." She said and started laughing. "Hahahaha! I'm such a big fool!" She laughed more. "I thought I could find happiness? Hahaha! What a joke!" Amidst this laughter, tears started flowing down heavily. No matter how much she laughed, it couldn't hide the sadness she felt.
She unconsciously walked into the road and a car just happened to be headed her way. The driver was moving in fast and it was a miracle that he was able to stop the car on time.
"Does the curse want to end my life as well?" She asked herself. "You can go ahead but not today."
The driver seemed rather patient with her. It looked like his mind was somewhere else. When he looked at the girl standing in his way, he couldn't help but remember what had happened to him on that very day. He seems to have heard this girl say something and his mind hung on to it.
"...not today. On this day, I vow to break the curse before I die." She said and walked past his car.
"Ah, it's a curse alright." He gripped the steering wheel tightly. "If only I could break my curse." The man said to himself and drove away.
Tessy ended up in a bar. Coincidentally, she sat next to the man who almost ran her over. He seemed to have downed two bottles but was still going.
She sat next to him and ordered vodka, one of the strongest drinks in the bar with a very high level of alcohol. It was her first time drinking and she started big.
After taking two glasses, the world started spinning around her. She almost fell back but the man sitting beside her caught her.
Somehow, Tessy didn't feel at all uncomfortable that he touched her. It was like their skin blended and was just perfect. She raised her head to see the man who had such a miraculous touch but couldn't see his face properly because she was drunk.
"Life is not fair." She said through her drunken state.
"I know." The man said, surprisingly having a beautiful voice.
"Curses are damned and life is damned." Tessy stated.
"You never get what you want." The man added.
"Exactly." She nodded with her head swaying from side to side, drunk. "I only wished for happiness in my life but it is so hard to get."
"Same here. Happiness is the hardest thing there is to achieve."
"Hey mister, I don't know you but could you… could you do me a favor and take me home?" She asked, trying to keep her head steady.
"I don't do favors." He said, moving his face closer to hers. She frowned.
"Then take me home. It's a command." She said,
"And what if I say I won't?" He asked and she poked his head.
"You've got a thick skull." She said changing the topic and the man sighed. Although he was a little drunk, he still knew what was right from wrong. To think he'd engage in a conversation with a drunken girl.
"Where do you live? Where's your home?" He asked.
"Home? I don't have a home." She stated, shaking her head.
There was no way the man could drive in his state, so he decided to book a room there. He helped her up and carried her phone.
They leaned on each other as they searched for the room. Once they had gotten there, he dropped her on the bed and wanted to leave when she pulled him. He saw tears in her eyes.
"Why is life so cruel?"
