Chapter 16 - Diego, I think I'm in love

The next day, just as Tessy had deduced, she got to work by 7. Right on time.

During work, Tessy earned the sneers of jealous girls from every corner. She didn't mind and just did her work zealously. She was efficient, focused and accurate.

Jessica wondered how a girl so beautiful could be so smart. Tessy never smiled but kept a stoic expression on. But even with that stoic expression, she looked crazily attractive.

Tessy made sure not to come in contact with anyone at all. She didn't want to show her flaws, didn't want to spell out her weak points. She just wanted to put her brain to good use. These simple things were a waste of her time.

Diego was shocked at the results he got. No matter what he did, he couldn't get any information about Tessy from about when she was born to five years ago. It was like she never existed in those years and just popped out of nowhere.

"So you're telling me that she doesn't have an identity?" Mason asked, still finding the whole thing funny.

"Yeah, boss. The whole thing is just messed up. I couldn't get the hospital she was born in, her mother or father. I couldn't even find the place she stayed in. All I could find was her moving to New Zealand five years ago and her moving to America four years ago." Diego reported.

"Hm, it's strange. It's like she came out of thin air." Mason thought for a bit. "Well, I wouldn't be so surprised that she came out of thin air. She's after all too perfect."

"How do you know that, Boss?"

"Just a hunch." Mason said, flipping his pen.

"I wouldn't say perfect, Boss." Diego disagreed.

"Oh? Then go ahead and watch her closely. See how she does her things here at work and keep me updated. I think it's time to pay off my debt." Diego nodded and left the office leaving Mason to stare at the ceiling. "Four years ago." He dropped the pen. "I'll definitely make it up to you."

By the end of the day, Tessy was nowhere near exhausted. She got up, ready to leave.

"Before you go, please take these files to the fifth floor, can you?" Jessica asked.

"Sure!" Tessy replied. "Just drop them on the desk, I'll take them there right away."

"Okay!" Jessica turned to leave but stopped on remembering something. "Try not to mix them up, it took me a while to put them in order." She warned and Tessy nodded.

"After taking these files to the fifth floor, I'll just take my leave." She said to herself and put her phone in her purse, she hung it on her shoulder and carried the files.

She had to be careful not to trip, so she walked gently and steadily. She entered the elevator and pushed the button. The elevator doors opened at the seventh floor, there a young lad who was in such a hurry bumped into her and the files scattered all over the floor. Tessy flinched as she felt the contact of his skin on hers. She suddenly got goosebumps.

"I'm so sorry. Let me help you pick them up." He offered bending down to pick up the files.

"That's enough." Tessy said and he paused. Which lady was it that had such a sweet yet harsh voice. He lifted his head to see Tessy. He marveled at how beautiful and calm and looked. "I'll pick them up myself, you don't need to worry, just,..." She gestured for him to move backward and he did.

She bent down and started picking up the files. He just stared at her as she picked the files and didn't seem to know when the elevator doors closed leaving him out.

"Leo!" Someone called out from behind, jolting him out of his temporary trance. He turned to see Diego.

"Diego, I think I'm in love." Diego said, placing his hand on his chest.

"Yeah, yeah, you're always in love with pretty girls." Diego rolled his eyes and placed his arm around Leo's neck. "Come on, the boss is waiting for ya." They took the second elevator.

Tessy had a load of work on her head as she tried to put her files in order. She had until the fifth floor to arrange it all. She stopped the elevator from moving and started work. It took about an hour and half to put everything according to how it should be - Not caring that she might be inconveniencing others, it was closing time though.

She released the elevator and pressed the fifth floor.

At this time, it was completely dark outside with a heavy downpour. Tessy didn't give it a thought to check the weather forecast and now she had to call the driver to come pick her up on this rainy night.

"Sorry, mistress, there's a really bad traffic jam on the road. It seems that an accident occurred. Can you wait a little while longer while I take another route?" The driver asked.

"It's okay, take your time." Tessy said and cut the call. She stared at the rain as it dropped heavily.

She extended her hand and felt the drops on her palm. It was chilling and in a way, thrilling. She had never entered the rain before, why couldn't she now?

With slow steps, she got into the rain and felt the coldness. The drops of rain swallowed her whole and washed her down. Who knew the rain had such a powerful control over her? She turned with her face upward. It was so relaxing.

Mason just left his office and was headed home. From his car, he saw her. Even under the rain, she still had that alluring aura around her. She looked so intimidating and the way she was under the rain, would convince anyone that playing in the rain was fun.

"This woman, does she want to fall sick?" He drove closer and just a little more, he would have helped her but another car drove in.
