Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: Obtaining The Sword of The Nether

I walked up to the vendor and the large, young man. These two people were arguing about refunds for a rusty sword that looked like it would break just from hitting anything metal.

I wanted the sword but making my intentions known might make it seem as though the sword was precious, which could make the vendor and young man want to keep the sword.

My plan thus was to convince them that I would buy the sword because I wasn't allowed to enter into any of the weapon shops, which by the way was true. Also, I had to give them a low price because the sword was way too old and rust.

If I gave them a sky high price, they might get suspicions as to why a young kid like me would want a broken sword like that. Although it could also be explained as naivety, I was unwilling to take that chance.

"Hey, misters. I am coincidentally looking for a sword to buy and the weapon shops won't let me in because I'm underage. This sword doesn't look to be in too good shape, but I guess purchasing it should solve both your problems, no?" I said, wearing a cheerful smile that lit up the whole place.

"Scram, kid. Adults are talking here." The burly man did not even look in my direction as he shut me down and shoved me off.

"Yeah. Adults are talkin'." The vendor said. "Besides, where do you think you can find three coppers to purchase this sword?"

'Three copper coins.' Way too much of a haul for me. I had a lot more money than three coppers on me right now; after all, I came to the marketplace looking to buy a sword. If I didn't bring money with me, how would I buy the sword?

I dipped my hand into my sleeves and brought out two copper coins. I turned to the burly man and said, "Two coppers, no more."

He looked at me and then at me hand that was pointed out with an open palm containing two coppers.

"Hey, kid. Where'd you get that money?" The vendor asked.

"Shut up. Not your business." I retorted in an extremely rude manner. Then I turned back to the young man with the shriveled sword. "Are you taking it or not?"

"Why do you want this sword? There are plenty others better than this." He had become a little cautious, though it was nothing I was worried about.

"If you would help me get a sword from one of the weapon shops, I would be grateful and instead not buy your broken sword." I said smiling at him, while inside, I was burning up with nervousness.

"Ah, underage!" he exclaimed.

"You're a bright one. Will you take the deal or not?"

"Where's your father, kid?" He started making strange movements as he asked this, causing me to be on my guard.

"You know what, I don't even know why I came for this stupid sword anyway. I'll just leave and go find somewhere I can get a better one." I said, turning around to make my words seem true.

"Hey, wait." The burly man said. Then, he walked to meet the vendor and they whispered for some time to themselves. By now, the commotion was over, so the crowd had left this place.

It was strange, I wondered, why nowadays commotions and challenges and all sorts of fights were happening all around me. This was not something normal as far as I knew. What was happening, I had no idea.

"Alright kid, I'll take the deal." The young man snapped me out of my thoughts.

"What, no! That thing is way too broken. I didn't even notice how broken it was before until now as I'm seeing it up close." The young man had taken the initiative to walk close to me so I had to see if I could lower the price a bit.

"Nice try, kid. But we ain't goin' no less than two coppers." he said.

"Ugh, I shoulda said one copper." I gave him the money and received the sword from his hand, causing a dark red screen to pop up in front of me. The message it showed caused my heart to leap up in joy but I managed to control myself so I wouldn't smile outwardly.

You have successfully retrieved the Sword of The Nether.

'Wow, amazing what the rewards are for finding just one of these items. But I was just lucky today. It will be a stretch, and in no way easy to find the other four items. However, I need to get out of here before this creepy guy starts something he'll regret.'

"Thank you, sir. It's a pleasure doing business with you." I said, bowed rather wuickly and ran off.

I got to the edge of the city and quickly dashed into the forest. I could sense some people were following behind me, so I had digressed from my original path back home. I was sure it was either the vendor or the burly man, or both. No ither person saw the money I brought out.

It was understandable that they would chase after me because little kids could no more afford a single copper than it was easy to kill a magucal beast on one's own - now mind you, my case is different so don't include me to that math. Because of this fact, they would privably want to know who was giving their kids copper coins as allowance. That meant the person was stinking rich, of course - to hand out copper coins to children like candy.

I had other plans though. It was time to test just how good this mythical sword was. Plus, I wanted to see what this new level up of mine brought as it's rewards.
