My vision finally cleared and I saw it. I was at the academy at last. It was huge, about the size of a hundred football fields. I didn't even notice my mouth was open as I stared at the building. Everything was painted white and black without a single spec of dust on the walls. There were a lot of buildings and each of them had five sections. Each section was further divided into two parts. For boys and girls. Almost a mile away on either side were two buildings about the same size as the one in front of me with the same colours. I kept looking forward admiring every single detail of the building. I got snapped out of my daze when a hand waved in front of my face.
"Hello, sir are you alright?"
I turned around to see a man in a suit. He looked pretty young and had no facial hair. He had long hair greased back and tied in a ponytail at the back of his head.
"Huh.. yeah I'm fine thanks."
"Good. Right this way then."
He turned around walking in the direction of a building and I hurried after him. He led me to a large events hall. It was filled with people around my age conversing in small groups and everyone was anxious like they were waiting for someone. There were several doors on either side of the room with blank screens above them and no one had any clue as to where they led. I looked around for my friend, Damon. We agreed to meet before we got our systems to decide what system we were gonna get. I found him chatting with a girl and walked over to them to introduce myself to his new friend not caring if I was interrupting anything.
"Hey Damon, what's up?"
They both turned around and I got a good look at the girl. She had blond hair and blue eyes with a smooth face. She was really pretty.
"Nothing much. I'm just mingling."
"Really, then who's this?" I said with a grin.
He looked at me confused for a while before his face lit up bright red.
"N..no it's not what you think. I just met her today."
"Okay. What's your name?" I said turning to the girl.
"Chloe."
"Nice name."
"Thanks."
"Uh um." Damon so rudely interrupted.
"Yeah?"
"Have you decided which system you're gonna get."
"Yeah, I was gonna go for something like a tiger. What about you?"
"Something along the lines of a gorilla."
"Nice. And you?" I turned back to Chloe.
"I'm getting a cheetah system."
"Fierce."
"Thanks."
"Hey!"
I turned around expecting to see Damon but instead I saw a blond boy waving and running towards us. He reached us and turned to Chloe.
"Who are they?" He asked.
"They're my friends. Ryan, This is Tyler and this is Damon. Tyler, Damon, This is my brother Ryan."
"These are your friends? I guess you prefer low lives now."
"You just met them. How do you know they're low lives."
"Just look at them. They're dickheads."
"You just said they were low lives."
"Well maybe they're dickheads and low lifes."
"We're standing right here!" I finally said annoyed at how arrogant he was. They both turned to us and smirked,
"I know." He said with a wink.
I felt my blood boil as I saw that stupid expression on his face. I wanted to walk up to him and slap that smirk off his face but I resticted myself cause I didn't know if the security would kick me out if I started a fight. Plus I didn't know who was stronger between us and I didn't want to start a losing battle.
'Who the hell does he think he is to walk in here and call us dickheads. I mean we just met.'
"I gotta go. Enjoy your little playdate." He eventually said, turned around and left.
"Sorry about my brother. He doesnt like people." Chloe said once Ryan was out of sight.
"What kind of person doesn't like people. What is he, a soulless vampire?" Damon said still glaring at the crowd in the direction Ryan went.
"WEEELLLCOOOMEEE SSTUUDEEENTSSS!!!!!" A voice boomed throughout the room. I looked at the direction of the sound and saw a man on a large stage with a mic in front of him. He was wearing a three piece suit and had messy blond hair. He had a bright smile on his face as he spoke.
"AS MANY OF YOU KNOW I AM THE PRINCIPAL OF THE WORLD RENOWN HYBRID ACADEMY!! ALL OF YOU HAVE COME HERE WITH ONE GOAL IN MIND, TO GET YOUR SYSTEM AND BECOME A SOLDIER IN THE WAR AGAINST THE BEASTS AND WHO ARE WE TO DENY YOU THE OPPORTUNITY!! WE ARE GOING TO OPEN THESE DOORS SOON AND ALL OF YOU WILL GET YOUR SYSTEMS SHORTLY!!!!!"
The crowd cheered as he finished his speech and disappeared into the darkness from which he emerged. Everyone looked towards the doors in anticipation of what was coming next but no one had to wait too long as the blank screens above the doors started flashing letters but no one paid attention to the words as the doors slowly opened and mist started pouring out.
'Overdramatic much.' I thought as I rolled my eyes.
I looked around the room for the feline section.
"There it is." I heard Chloe say as she pointed at a crowded spot. I followed her line of sight and saw the room. We all started walking towards the room when,
"You guys are going to the feline section right? Let's go together." It was Ryan again.
"No thanks." Damon said.
"Oh c'mon, don't be such a killjoy."
"You can't be a killjoy if you send away the one person who causes anything but joy!"
"I have feelings you know."
"And."
"How dare you."
"Don't be so dramatic, you pussy."
"What did you just call me?"
"I said you were a pussy! What, are you deaf now too?!"
"Don't call me a pussy you dickhead."
"Stop calling me a dickhead. We just met."
"Stop calling me a pussy we just met."
"Alright, you guys stop it before security kicks us out." I intervened when I saw one of the security men glaring at us. "Ryan, you can come with us if you want as long as you don't touch us, talk to us or breath near us."
"Deal."
We continued walking towards the room when,
"WHAT YOU KNOW ABOUT ROLLING DOWN IN THE DEEP
WHEN YOUR BRAIN GOES NUMB YOU CAN CALL THAT MENTAL FREEZE
WHEN THESE PEOPLE....!!!"
"What do you think you're doing?"
"You said not to talk to you and nothing about singing."
I opened my mouth to say something but then shut it when I realised he was right.
"Carry on."
We entered the room and Ryan finally shut up. It was divided into different sections for each feline.
"Well, I guess this is where we part." Damon said.
"Let's all meet here after." Chloe said
"Agreed." We all said.
Damon walked towards the leopard section, Chloe towards the cheetah and me towards the tiger but of course something had to ruin it.
"Why are you following me?" I turned to Ryan.
"I'm not following you, I'm going to the tiger section."
"Oh come on."
I hurried to the tiger section and walked in. It was as cliche as I expected with everything being orange with black stripes. There was a black haired woman sitting at a desk with two chairs in front of it.
"You boys are the first ones to arrive." The lady behind the desk said.
"Come, come."
I walked over to her and sat down in one of the chairs while Ryan sat in the other.
The woman brought out two pills and gave one to each of us. We were about to take it when she said,
"Remember there is no way to determine the rarity or strength of the fossil so we are not to blame if you get a weak one."
That made me wanna put the pill back and pick out another one cause I felt like she was trying to cheat me out of a good system but when I saw Ryan already eating his pill I shoved mine in my mouth and chewed. It wasn't half bad but then I suddenly felt the urge to sleep. I ignored it at first but then it got stronger and stronger until I couldn't resist anymore. Right as I was about to drift off, a thought entered my mind.
'No. Fight it. What if this is a test?'
That was enough for me as I fought back until the feeling suddenly left.
"Congratulations on passing your first test you two but you have to be unconscious for this to work so..."
She stood up and started walking towards us with a baton in her hand. Next thing I saw was a baton heading straight for me until,
BAM!
Then it all went dark.
