Chereads / MY GLITCHY SYSTEM / Chapter 9 - Chapter nine: Alexander

Chapter 9 - Chapter nine: Alexander

'What a weirdo.' Was the thought on everyone's mind as they went to bed that day.

After failing to show them evidence of an intruder in his room, Hunter was currently lying on the ground in his room unconscious.

His consciousness was in some sort of blank space with nothing there except a brown haired man wearing a sort of armour.

"Who are you and what am I doing here?!"

"It seemed this was the only way to get you to listen to what I had to say without freaking out too much so I brought you into your consciousness."

"That still doesn't answer my question."

"My name is Alexander the fifth and you can just think of me as sort of a guardian angel."

"No last name?"

"Yes."

"Well, I don't need a guardian angel so you can leave now and return me to my dorm."

"It doesn't work like that, you idiot. Once you've been assigned a guardian angel, you can't get rid of it till you die."

"Well, that just seems like you're trying to force yourself on people."

"No we're not. We just pick out anyone who we think needs guidance and help them become stronger than everyone else."

"But they can't get rid of you till they die?"

"Yes."

"What if they don't wanna be strong?"

"Everyone wants to be strong."

"You are so wrong."

"I am not!"

"Okay, you're a sensitive guy, got it...What if they don't want your help?"

"Firstly, I'm not sensitive and secondly, it doesn't matter if they want our help or not, all that matters is if we feel like they need it."

"Do you have any idea how stupid that sounds?"

"It's not stupid!"

"You sound like a bored, old guy whose trying to force his grandchildren to take his advice."

"We are not bored, we are only trying to help humanity!"

"So where were you during the world wars?"

"Busy!"

"With what?"

"Stuff!"

"Like?"

"That shouldn't concern you. You are but a mortal, we know what's best for you!"

"And who is this 'we' you keep referring to?"

"None of your business!"

"You brought me into my consciousness against my will and you're the one screaming at me?"

"You're the one annoying me."

"Why wouldn't I annoy you? You trapped me in my own head for crying out loud!"

"You have to understand the privilege which has been bestowed upon you!"

"I don't want the privilege, I didn't ask for it, go give it to another person!"

"I can't."

"I thought you were some sort of almighty immortal yet you can't even make your own decisions."

"I'm not an almighty immortal, I work for one!"

"So why did he send you to me?"

"Apparently, you're the chosen one. Only the chosen ones receive guardian angels and I am the one which has been sent to you."

"Just go choose another person and leave me alone."

"It doesn't work like that!"

"So then how does it work?"

"Once you're chosen, you're assigned a guardian angel to help you become the strongest in your generation and help you make good decisions."

"Why?"

"Because… I don't know."

"So, you chose me to be the strongest and my strength will just be for nothing."

"Sometimes, there's a crisis which only you can fix."

"But is there going to be one?"

"I can't remember."

"You're pathetic."

"No I'm not!"

"Is there any way to get rid of you?"

"No."

"What about if I annoy you enough and you kill me, then will I get rid of you?"

"No, you'll be reincarnated with all your memories of this life."

"So, it'll be like those animes where someone dies and is reincarnated in a fantasy world?!"

"No. You'll be reincarnated as a baby version of your current self and will live the exact same life as the one you have now."

"But I'll still be reincarnated?"

"No, the better definition would be that time will reverse back to the point when you were born but you'll still have memories of what happened before time reversed."

"So I'll be a time traveler?!"

"Are you listening at all? I feel like you interprete everything I say as you being transported into some sort of anime."

"Blame the inventor of anime."

"You're obsessed."

"I know."

"Look, I have to complete my mission today or I'll be demoted."

"What exactly is your mission?"

"To get you to accept me."

"What happens if I do accept you?"

"I will get transported into your consciousness and will be manipulating and controlling every single decision you make from this point up until the day you die."

"That sounds horrible!"

"Yes, but it's not as bad as it sounds. I believe you humans have an expression 'Don't judge a bird by it's feathers', just apply that here."

"That is so wrong..."

"I don't care." Alexander cut him off, "Just hurry up and decide."

"If I say no, you'll still force me so why ask for my opinion?"

"Just because. Hurry up before I lose my patience!"

Hunter thought for a while but in the end, couldn't decide so he had another thought.

'Why force myself to decide in a few minutes when I can get a whole lifetime to choose.'

"Can I use my hybrid powers in here?"

"No."

"But this is my consciousness so I can imagine whatever I want right?"

"Basically."

"That's all I need to know, see you in a lifetime!"

'System, activate fangs of death!'

After saying that, he bit into his arm and waited for the sweet taste of death but it never came, a system message did though.

[Host is immune to fangs of death.]

'What do you mean host is immune to fangs of death? This was not mentioned in the description!'

"Whatcha doing?"

He looked up to see Alexander staring at him. He immediately hid his arm behind his back.

"Nothing."

"You just tried to kill yourself, didn't you."

"Yes...no...maybe...fine, yes."

"What kind of idiot does that?"

"You said I'd get reincarnated so I figured I could just kill myself and decide when I'm reliving my life."

"That's so stupid, even if you were to die, the circumstances surrounding your death were imaginary so you'll die an imaginary death."

"I had no choice, you're putting too much pressure on me to decide."

"How about you flip a coin?" He said while pulling one out of his pocket.

"Heads, I leave, tails, you agree."

"Where did you even get that?!"

"Wouldn't you like to know."

He gave the coin to Hunter and stood aside. After a moment of internal debate, Hunter flipped the coin.

'C'mon, my life depends on this flip.'

As Hunter watched the coin fall to the ground, he inwardly prayed for it to land on heads but it didn't. Maybe that's just a sign telling him to pray outwardly next time.

"Oh, c'mon, the one time I need a coin to land on heads it goes ahead to do the opposite!"

"I guess I'm just lucky." Alexander said as he smirked at the result.

"No, the coin must have been rigged!"

"How can I rig a coin?"

"I don't know, ask yourself."

"We had a deal so now you have to accept me."

"Fine, but only because I respect the coin toss."

"Great, now you will get transported back to your body and will wake up tomorrow morning as if this never happened."

"So you aren't gonna be bothering me?"

"No, I will still bother you a lot. Time to go back." As he said that, he turned around and started walking away.

"Wait, what was your name again?" Hunter asked.

"Alexander the fifth."

"Too long, I'm just gonna call you..."

"I know, you're just gonna call me Alex."

"No, I'm gonna call you Xander."

"Xander...Xander..." Alexander repeated the name for a while before nodding his head and then leaving.

"So, what now?" Hunter asked himself as he realised he was left alone in this blank space.

All of a sudden, the space twisted and distorted until it completely disappeared and Hunter was transported into the land of dreams.
