Chapter 4 - The Second Contract ?

A while after the young lilac slept, while she was knitting, Mey started feeling nauseous. Perhaps she was overusing her magic. She can't keep pretending to be healthy nowadays; she keeps her conviction to push herself to this point. There is no backing down. When she thought like that, she caught a glimpse of her eyes shining, just like in the past when she was "The Blooming Lilac". She looked at the boy sleeping peacefully and decided to save the important things for later.

"It's just a day; it should be fine for the boy if it's just a day." She thought.

After that, she went to her sofa and slept there.

The next time she awakened, the boy was gone from the bed. She was surprised and left the door to find out the boy was taking a tiny wooden stick, pretending it was a weapon, and swinging it everywhere. She shakes her head and says,

"Did you just meet a legendary witch and still want to become a swordsman?"

The boy looks at her and shakes his head. He makes a sign.

"It's the only thing I can do; I can't speak, nor can I do chantless magic."

The boy then put down his stick and flicked his hand bottom-up, left-right, but nothing came out.

Then Mey laughed while saying, "Are you right in your mind, kiddo? You haven't made a contract yet; that's why you can't do magic. You have lumine, your shining hair proves it. You have a talent to do magic."

But then she continued, "Lumine could only be granted to the one who has the willpower to live. Not only to live but to live the life fully, and those who had purpose and also knew the true purpose in life, what he/she has to do."

Mey also thinks that the boy should only be 8 or 12 years old, and to achieve this feat, he must have gone through many hardships. So she continued, saying,

"Young boy, you've gone through many things in your life. What do you want to do?"

Wedgewood's eyes shine, he runs toward the witch, and he starts making hand signs saying

"We're too occupied with monsters. I believe there is another thing we're missing, and I want to find the truth. For that, I need power to protect and defend those who have good will."

Mey was surprised. He was conveying the things in a clear manner, just like an adult would say. I guess there was a reason why the gods took a liking to him. In a moment, she remembered what she was fighting for before all of these things happened, but she feels that it is no use overthinking things.

"Brilliant! Now what do you want to say if I say, I'll teach you magic?"

Wedgewood replied using a hand sign, "I can't speak".

Mey replied, "Is flicking my hand a chant? Magic is powered by Lumine. Once you have the will and God's support, everything can happen. If you really want to have power, this is one way to do it. I can help you make a contract."

Wedgewood nods repeatedly and really fast; it looks comical.

Then Mey said, "Now let's draw a circle."

Mey flicks her hand, and the stick that was thrown away by Wedgewood flies away and starts creating a circle. Then she drew a cross and finished with a horizontal line.

Mey said, "Your hair is blue, so your benefactor is Poseidon; do you want me to call him?"

Wedgewood shakes his head, spins his hand fast, and points at Mey.

"Ah, you saw my fighting in the town and wanted to learn lightning? So I must call Zeus, then. On one note, they will ask you the same thing I asked earlier. It's better for you to reply in a shorter way."

Wedgewood nods as a sign of understanding.

She then goes to the upper right, starts hesitating a bit, but starts chanting, "By the name of Meyeri Lilac, I hereby request an audience with the God of Thunder, Zeus."

She channeled her power to the upper right corner of the circle. There is some rejection. She then fully channeled with all of her might, and then a cloud popped up.

Wedgewood looked at the cloud and was confused.

Then Mey said, exhausted, "Huff huff huff, thanks for coming out."

Then from the top of the cloud, a white cat popped up with a lightning mark on its forehead, asking, "Why are you calling me again, the one who strayed from the path?"

Then Mey kneeled and replied, "I wasn't calling it for me; it was for that child."

Then the white cat turns around and says, surprised, "Ah, I never imagined the young witch has an apprentice; oh my, who is this child? Come here, boy, step to my place."

The boy walked in a circle, trying not to step on the other part of the magic circle, and once he arrived at the upper right of the circle, he walked inside.

"You don't need to say anything; by thinking you can communicate with me, just like telepathy," , Cat said it through telepathy.

"I'm Zeus, the God of Thunder. This is my form in the human realm. Why do you want to talk to me?", Zeus said through telepathy.

"I want the power to shoot lightning from my hand", Wedgewood replied.

Zeus first nods, then holds his laugh, then starts laughing hysterically while screaming, "HAHAHA, oh, this is really funny; I need to call Poseidon."

He flicked his hand, and on the opposite side of the pie, there is a pond.

"Hey, Poseidon, come out; look at this child with blue hair; he said he wanted to shoot lightning from his hand", Zeus said.

A cat without feet, only a mermaid tail, comes out.

"Yeah, yeah, talk all you want.", Poseidon puffs his cat face, showing jealous emotion.

The boy was confused and started panicking.

"Poseidon is your benefactor; he helped you before when you were drowning as an infant,", Zeus said.

The boy didn't remember anything, but he bowed deeply to Poseidon.

Zeus continued, "He clearly doesn't remember anything; he was just born. I don't blame him for not remembering. But humans sure have things I don't understand. One life can't be compared to anything; why trade it for such a puny thing like..."

Poseidon flapped his tail at the pond, and the water splashed everywhere. He tried to prevent Zeus from continuing.

Poseidon, with a bit of an angry voice, said, "Let's not continue to talk about that and move on with more crucial things. I know you can't chant, so you could only use magic through a permanent contract; whether we want to give you the permanent contract is within our volition."

Zeus nervously continued, "Ehem, ok, now that you're here, tell me why I shall grant you the power and what you want to do with it."

Wedgewood replied with conviction, "I wanted the truth."

Poseidon and Zeus were shocked by his conviction, then Zeus replied, "For the truth you wanted, as the truth to the world, and the truth about you. You will go through hardships and difficulties. One's fate is intertwined with the other." Zeus was silent for a bit while looking at Mey.

Mey saw Zeus looking at him and bowed deeply in reply.

Zeus continued, "You're with the Star of Change, the Blooming Lilac. Could you swear on your own life that you won't go astray, by my name?"

Wedgewood said, "I swear by the name of the God of Thunder, Zeus, that I won't go astray and use the power to achieve the truth."

After finishing the sentences, Zeus continued, "Now then, my child, you have all of my support."Ignoring the outcome that might have happened, as long as you didn't use your Lumine for any ill will, I'll let you use my power. You can call me any time with the magic circle; I'll recognize your Lumine, and you could convert it to thunder. To do that, you need to design it as you see fit. Also, now you can fly."

Poseidon then said, "Now you have both Zeus and my power in your hands."

Wedgewood replied, "But I haven't made a contract with you yet."

Poseidon replied, "You have made it before; it's in the past. You can convert your Lumine into water, and you can also breathe underwater. Let Mey guide you on how to do it; she is your master after all."

Zeus then shouted at Mey, "I've granted the boy my power; guide him in how to use it, and don't ever dare make him astray."

Mey kneeled and replied, "Absolutely, sir, I will train him to my utmost and won't let you down again."

Zeus then turned his face around and frowned a bit, then said with a quiet voice, "See you later, Mey."

And then poofs, he is gone. Poseidon looked at the event, waved his hand at Mey, sighed, and then disappeared.

Wedgewood made a hand sign to Mey, "What happened?"

Mey replied, "Nothing; it's all in the past now; let's start our training."
