Chapter 5 - The Training : Lumine and Lumina

After young Wedgewood sealed the contract, Mey and Wedgewood went further outside the scope of the black wall Mey had created.

"Whatever happens, you may not come inside the barrier for too long", Mey said

"Why?", Wedgewood replied with sign language

"Inside the barrier, time moves 10 times faster than it actually is. If you stay there for too long 10 minutes will become 1 minute, 10 days will become 1 day, and 10 years will be felt only for 1 year."

The young boy looked surprised. He just slept nearly 8 hours in there. It must be 3 days worth of time more than it should be.

"Why you do that?", Wedgewood asked with sign language

"I need the barrier to preserve food," Mey said while flicking her white hair and looking to the right.

And then she cuts her way out by saying, "Aside from that, let's do our first training, young lilac."

Wedgewood looks confused but nods in reply. This is the first time he is focused. His eyes was wide open, and his mind was clear and focused as a laser. The old witch started by raising her right arm to shoulder level. And then she started by spawning some light in her hand. It's looked like a puffy ball from Wedgewood POV.

"Come closer," Mey said.

Young wedgewood nodded and came in to look closer, but it was too close. Then Mey flicked his forehead with her left hand.

"Too close!"

Young Wedgewood was startled

"Now look at this again", Mey said

Young Wedgewood looked at the thing again while caressing his forehead. It looks like multiple small, shiny white balls connected to each other. There is a white thread connecting the balls to each other.

"This is the essence of lumine. Lumine is energy with our life as its core. Lumine is connected to the heart. Every time we use magic, we use our own energy. Lumine can be replenished, but Lumine will start to glow dimly as we grow older, Mey said.

Young Lilac nods.

Mey then flicks her hand, and the stick inside the barrier flies and comes to her. Then she drew a fist that symbolized Lumina and drew a cross with a ball on each end of the line that symbolized Lumine.

Mey continued, "There are two kinds of energy that a person could possess. Lumina and Lumine. Both of them are considered rare. Lumine is magic energy, but Lumina is fighting energy, Mey explained.

The young lilac raised his hand.

"What is the difference?" Wedgewood asked with a hand gesture.

"While Lumine comes from our purpose, Lumina comes from training our body. People who train a lot in weapon martial arts normally develop this kind of ability, Mey said.

"Could we have both?" Wedgewood said it in sign language.

"Yes, but to have Lumina, you need to train for 5 or even 10 years. No one has that luxury since, in this era, we're even struggling just to live. So Lumina is preserved within the knighthood or noble family that has the privilege to waste their time," Mey said.

Wedgewood glared deeply, asking Mey indirectly.

"I can't do both," Mey responded with a blush, just like a teenager not to expect from someone her age. Then she continued

"But, let's say that singularity with the power of Lumine as rare as it is could be counted by our fingers." she said

"20?" the young lilac replied with hand gesture while counting his toes

"Don't count your toes. Anyway, I'm one of the legendary witches. I was once called 'The Blooming Lilac' ", she said while raising her hand and making number one with her right hand.

Young Lilac laughs.

"Ok, then, let's start with thunder."

She started to make a puffy ball, then she chanted, "By the god of thunder, Zeus."

The puffy ball starts making sparkles, "lightning." The once-white puffy ball turns into yellow lightning.

Then she threw it at a tree nearby. The tree was zapped leaving a circle burn mark on its trunk.

"This is a lightning ball," Mey said.

Young wedgewood looked at the mark on the tree and got excited, then she continued.

"This is what is normally done, but you can't chant."

Young Wedgewood frowns.

"For your thing, it will be a lot harder, but practically, yours will be more useful in a fight. Chanting takes a lot of time, but non-chanting takes a lot of skill to learn.", then she concentrates. Lumine started coming out of her body. It spins and starts spinning faster. The winds started gushing everywhere, then she shot the lumine, and then she flicked her hand, and the lumine started becoming a gust of wind.

"Cyclone!" Mey screamed.

The tree leaves were all gone after that one magic she chanted, but Young Lilac was not impressed.

"I'm not in my prime, you know!" Mey puffed her face despite all the wrinkles on her face.

Young Lilac laughs while closing his mouth.

Holding back her embarrassment, she continued her teaching.

"Anyway, do you understand the difference between the first execution and the second one?"

Young wedgewood shakes his head.

"Of course you don't", Mey replied cheekily.

Young wedgewood then mocked her by making an ugly face.

The witch then flicks her hand and flips him upside down, causing his head to lump in a comical way.

"Cough cough, you must be from the country where everyone stands with their heads," she mocked him back using her own magic as if she were cheating, not befitting for an old lady.

The boy then got back up, rubbing his head

"The difference is the concentration. Chanting allows me to not concentrate on moving the energy, while chanting less requires me to control and move the energy where it is supposed to be going." Mey continued.

The boy nods.

"My only permanent contract was with Sylph, so I could only do wind as my chantless magic. I use flicking as a way to change my Lumine into wind. You can't create things from nothing. The law of energy is abide." Mey continued.

"How could I make myself change Lumine into element?", The boy replied using sign language

"You're moving to fast, boy. Our training now is to create one particle on your hand," Mey said.

The boy cheekily put his thumb below his index finger and flicked it up, underestimating the training.

"I haven't instructed you on how to do it. How do you know it's easy? First, what you need to do is sit down," Mey said.

The boy sat down quickly.

"Try to tap the core of your Lumine by imagining water in your body." Mey instructed.

The boy sits down and tries his best, but it feels like he is trying to find a needle in the haystack.

"I learned this on my own. The contract I made was coincidental. Chantless magic feels like grabbing the star, far away and beyond reach. First, you need to understand your own body, then you can understand how the Lumine inside you moves." Mey said.

It doesn't feel long, but it's been an hour or so, and Wedgewood still didn't manage to feel the core of Lumine. He was frustrated.

"Among all the things in the world, magic is essentially the act of God. It seems impossible for humans to mimic God, but with a good understanding of the world, you'll be able to do it in time. There is no need to hurry," Mey said.

After that, it feels like an earthquake is coming, but it's not. A group of cavalry coming in. On its leads, there was a seemingly old knight. His mustache, beard, and hair are white. He has wrinkles on his face, but he is seemingly strong.

"I've been preparing for the past 20 years," he said.
