Chereads / Step-Love / Chapter 2 - The Day-after

Chapter 2 - The Day-after

I walk out of our honeymoon suite, and look over at my best friend walking out of Rachel's hotel room. She meets my eyes, and we both start laughing.

"I guess we both got lucky last night, eh?" I said through fits of laughter.

"I don't kiss and tell!" Hailey says as she takes a dramatic bow.

"Oh, please! Since when?" And we laugh again. "But seriously, you and Rachel?"

She nods at me, smiling. "And how was your night?"

I bite my lip. "I can't even put it into words. It was like-"

"I swear, April, if you're about to say 'magical' I'm gonna lose it!"

I look down at the ground. I smile to myself. "But it was magical! I couldn't believe that we have never felt that kind of love before, you know?"

"I honestly have no idea how you two managed to go so long without breaking." She takes a puff from her vape. Looks over at me, and then smiles. "I know I would've pounced at the chance to, you know, pounce him." She looks at me conspiratorially. "Well, you know. For a guy, he's pretty hot. And I'm sure every other girl, and guy, at school would say the same."

"Believe me, I know." I roll my eyes at her.

"So, your first time was with your husband. That's like storybook love right there, April." She takes another puff of smoke and slowly exhales it in my direction. I snatch it from her and take a hit myself. "I thought you quit?" She looks at me like I kicked her in the back.

"I did, then you decided to vape right in front of me." At that moment, Trevor takes a step out of our suite, looks at me, then shakes his head.

"I thought you quit."

"Ugh, you two are the worst!"

They look at each other, and laugh. Then Trevor takes a hit himself, then starts coughing. Hailey and I break down in a fit of laughter.

"Hey, what's going on out here?" Rachel opens the door, revealing her messed up hair and disheveled bridesmaid dress. We all look at her. "What?" She smiles at Hailey and I.

"Wait a minute." Trevor points at Rachel, then at Hailey. "You two?" And he keeps pointing at them back and forth.

"Yes, lover-boy. Me and her." Rachel has always been pretty matter of fact towards people, but I don't think Trevor was expecting her to hook up with a girl, let alone Hailey.

Rachel and Trevor are best friends, but they're also cousins. Which made me and her really good friends even before Trevor and I started dating. He might be in shock, but I knew it was a matter of time before Hailey snatched her up. She had a way of making anyone fall in love with her. Boy or girl. Hailey was always capable of having a date, no matter what their identified gender would be. So much, that people thought she and I were together for the longest time. Everyone thought that I was dating Trevor just to cover up the fact that I was a lesbian. They thought it even more when they found out that Trevor and I weren't having sex. No one believed that we were virgins, except my father. But I think he would have believed that even if we were having sex before we were married.

"I just didn't... Uh... didn't expect... you know?"

"What that I wanted to make love to a woman on your wedding night? It's not like you two were the only ones having sex last night." She takes a drag from Hailey's vape as well and blows it right in Trevor's face. Then she and him start laughing.

"I'm sorry. I'm just in shock, that's all. I'm really happy for you Rach." He says, snatching the vape back from Rachel. He takes another drag, without coughing this time.

"Look at us, a couple of best friends being in love." I say mockingly to Hailey and Trevor.

"Whoa whoa whoa, who said anything about love?" Hailey says taking a few steps back. "I was just in the mood for some cunnilingus." Rachel and Hailey bust out laughing. Then Trevor and I join in.

All of a sudden, Trevor picks me up and opens our door, and shouts over his shoulder, "Me too!" And slams the door shut. We both hear Rachel and Hailey howling after us. Then we hear their hotel room door shut as well. He sets me down gently on my feet, and he waggles his eyebrows at me. I roll my eyes and start laughing.

"We better start packing, we leave at 10, and that's only a little over an hour away." Trevor claps his hands, kisses me on the cheek, and then strips down to nothingness. He walks into the bathroom, then yells over his shoulder, "You can join me if you want."

I strip out of my pajamas, and join my new husband in the shower. The warm water hits our skin, and it ignites a whole new flame in our bodies. He kisses me softly on the lips, and then traces his fingers down my whole body. He caresses every curve with his fingertips. Then he softly bites the inside of my thigh. I feel like my eyes just rolled back into my head. I grip the handle on the side of the tub, and let out a shaky breath. I can't believe this is happening. He takes a taste, and then moans.

He lifts me up and pushes me against the wall of the shower, and pulls my body into his. I let out a moan, and it makes him fire up even more. I'm not sure, but I think this is what my heaven will be like. The room gets full of steam as we melt into each other once again in less than twelve hours. I want to feel like this all the time. The way his skin feels on mine. How his lips taste when they dance on mine. The way his fingers get tangled in my hair. The feeling of his body moving against mine. I never want it to stop.

We finish our shower together and watch each other get ready. We pack up all of our stuff and load into the SUV. Everyone who stayed at the wedding venue sees us off as we make our way to the airport. Trevor has kept our honeymoon destination a secret, until now.

"Italy? We're going to Italy?" I let out a squeal. "My ancestry! Are we going to see my grandpa and his sister while we're here." I can hardly contain my excitement.

"Yes. Your grandpa said we can stay in his hillside condo for our honeymoon. He will check up on us a few times during the honeymoon and he'll show us around Florence." He smiles at me and takes my hand. He always knew how to make me the happiest person ever. "I just have one problem that I never got a chance to solve." I look up at him in concern. "I still don't know any Italian."

I burst out laughing, "Oh baby, that's okay. Just stick by me and we will be just fine."

We get to the airport, and load up on the plane. Our flight was a total of sixteen hours, then we landed in Venice and then hopped a train to Florence. We arrived at my Grandpa's house on the far side of Florence, overlooking a picturesque landscape off the back deck. Trevor walks out back with me, wraps his arms around my waist and kisses the side of my neck.

"Thank you." I said to him. Looking directly at his eyes.

"What for?" He asks as he dances his lips a breath away from mine.

"All of this. You know I've always wanted to come here. To see where my family came from. Just... Thank you. I love you." I kiss him, firmly.

"I love you too." He hugs me deeply. "How is it possible that twenty-four hours ago, we said, 'I do?'" He chuckles softly.

I can feel his breath against my skin. It makes my whole body surge. "I don't know, husband. Do you regret it?"

"Regret? Why, wife of mine, what would I possibly have to regret?" He chuckles again. This time, I join in.

I look in my bags and see that I have an additional suitcase in my possession. I open it up and see nothing but sexy lingerie folded neatly from front to back. I take out my phone, take a picture of the sight before me, and send a text to Hailey. "Did you do this?" I receive a text back, "Guilty. Girl, you deserve to see that man go rock hard when you wear those numbers. Have fun ;P" I laugh in spite of myself. I pull out a black, sheer nighty and smile at myself in the mirror. The majority of my outfits consist of something the regular public had no business seeing me in.But as for Trevor, I don't mind him seeing me dressed like this every minute of every day.

I walk out into the living area to find Trevor sitting on the couch. He looks like he's in deep thought. "Hey, you okay?"

"Huh? Yeah, no, I'm fine. I-" He cuts himself off when he sees me. "Whoa." He smiles and then licks his bottom lip. He always does that when he sees me in something attractive. "I love that on you." He stand up and walks over to me. He places his hands softly on my hips.

"What were you thinking about before I distracted you?" I was concerned.

"Basic." He pauses, then he drops his hands from my waist. He sits back down on the couch and lets out a long sigh.

"Trevor?" I sit down beside him. "What's going on?"

"I don't know how to tell you this, but..." He turns away from me. "I got a call from Master Sergeant Marlowe this morning when you were outside with Hailey. He told me that right after basic, I'll have two weeks to get my affairs in order and then..."

"And then what, babe?" My heart was beating a million miles per hour. It was pounding so hard that I'm sure our guests on the other side of the world could hear it.

His voice came at a whisper. "I'll get my first station." He paused, choking back tears, "Afghanistan, April."

I gasp. "What? I thought we would have more time than that. I didn't think-" Tears escape my eyes. My throat encloses in on itself. I feel like my whole world is coming apart.

"I know, I'm sorry. I thought I would have more time too. I just didn't know how to tell you."He starts to cry. I've never seen Trevor cry before. We sit on the couch holding each other, crying in each others arms.

We get interrupted by a knock at the door. I get up and answer it. I open the door to my smiling, white haired grandfather. "Ciao splendida coppia! Mi amore." He kisses me on the forehead. "What is this. Trouble so soon?" He wipes a tear from my cheek.

"No. no. nonno. Sto benne, lo prometto. Mi sei mancato, nonno." I kiss him on each cheek. "Come. Meet my marito."

My grandpa walks in and extends his hand to Trevor. Trevor takes it. "It's a nice to meet you, Trevor, si?" Trevor nods his head.

"Yes, Trevor. April said your name is Sonny?"

"Si, Sonny. You can call me Nonno Sonny like everyone else." He takes a seat at the table, and we join in beside him.

"You have to tell Trevor how you and grandma met."

"Ah, yes. I was on leave from the military. Me and our guys went into a club to get drinks outside of Barcelona, when my eyes met with this red headed girl across the bar. She was laughing so loudly with her girl friends, I felt like my heart was beating on the outside of my body. I walked right up to her, introduced myself and then you know what she did?" Trevor shook his head and I smiled widely. "She laughed at me. Then told me that she doesn't do pigs in a military uniform. Then she and her friends walked away from me." He chuckles to himself, thinking back at the wonderful memory. He continues on, "But that did not stop me. I was stricken with her. So, after all her friends left, I walked back over to her and reintroduced myself. Then you know what she said to me then?" Trevor smiled and shook his head again. "She says, I'm Lucille, my friends call me Lucy. I don't like the war, I hate it, And I'm not sure I want to fraternize with the likes of you." He chuckles again. "So I said how much I hated the war too. She seemed to be interested in my take on that, and then we started dancing and talking. I hardly spoke any English, and she only knew Spanish, but we understood the universal language of love."

"Ewww, nonno." I pushed his shoulder back.

"So, when did you two get married?"

"Two years later. We continued to see each other when I was on leave. Here, Barcelona, and Washington D.C." He smiled again, relishing in the memory. "It was hard, you see, but love always overcomes, eh?" He winks at me and Trevor. "My fellow serviceman."

"Thank you for that." Trevor stands and shakes his hand.

"Ah, no no no. You come here." He stands up and pulls Trevor into a hug. A single tear escapes the both of them. "Well, la cena non aspetta nessuno!" And just like that, my eighty year old grandpa runs to the door.

"Dinner waits for no one." I translate to Trevor. He just sighs and smiles at me. We head for the door. "Just wait til you see his car." I smile and wink at him.

We head outside and the look on Trevor's face is priceless. "What?" He exclaims. "A Ferrari?" He yells in astonishment.

"Si, that is my last name, is it not?" He opens the doors for us and Trevor slinks inside giving me a sour look.

"Ferarri? I thought your last name was Kennedy?"

"That's my father's last name, babe. My mother's name is Ferarri." I chuckle.

We head to a little restaurant in the heart of Florence. My grandfather ordered all of us fine wine and good food, then we went for a walk afterward.

We all headed back to the car, and made our way back to our condo. My grandfather let us out and kissed us good night. Trevor and I made our way inside to spend our first honeymoon night together.

"You'll have to thank him for me." Trevor said, taking my hand in his as he leads me to the bedroom.

"For what?"

"I think he made me feel a little better about having to leave."

"Yeah, he has a way of always putting a smile on people. He's the best. I've really missed him since my Nonna died."

Trevor takes my hand and kisses it gently. We lay down on the bed next to each other. He pulls me on top of him and I bury my face into his neck. He kisses my head, and we sink into each other once again.
