Chapter 11 - Chapter 11

The day was a very long and hectic one for Catherine; it seemed as if the timing wasn't in her favor. Throughout the whole day, she kept on watching the clock; all she wanted was for it to clock six o'clock so that she could go home and rest her head a little. But the more she watched the clock, the slower it got.

After what seemed like forever, it finally clocked six p.m., and happily, she had finished with the documents she was working on.

Without hesitating, she arranged the documents on her stuffy table and left the office.

Once she came out, she handed the envelope containing the documents to the secretary and started heading out of the company.

She waited for a taxi for more than thirty minutes but saw none.

"Is this day ever going to get better?" She mumbled to herself while waiting for a taxi.

As she was patiently waiting, suddenly a white Formatic Mercedes-Benz with tinted glass stopped in front of her, and without hesitating, the driver poured the glass down.

"Hello, Mrs. Catherine Edmond," the driver greeted while smiling, and immediately Catherine furrowed her brows at him, wondering who the stranger was and how he knew her name and surname.

The man was dressed in a native good luck dress that matched his fair skin and brown hair; he was also putting on transparent glasses that showed his brown eyeballs.

"I know you will be wondering who I am and how I knew your name," the man affirmed, and Catherine nodded in agreement with a surprised look.

"I'm Chris William, the owner of Prestige Restaurant, which is opposite the mall you visited some days ago, and I must admit I'm a fan of yours," he said to Catherine, who furrowed her brows in surprise, still wondering what he meant by that.

"I have been following the news of Ethic Textiles lately, and I can't help but admire the positive effects you have brought to the company. Who wouldn't like to be a fan of a hard-working lady like you?" Chris inquired, and Catherine smiled at his flattery.

"Do you mind if I drop you off?" Chris inquired, but Catherine kept staring at him without replying.

"Come on, I'm not going to bite," he told Catherine teasingly.

After pondering over it for some moments, Catherine had no choice but to accept it because, since they had been discussing it, no single taxi had passed and it was slowly getting dark.

"OK, I don't mind," Catherine replied, and immediately Chris shifted a little and opened the door for her. She got in, and immediately he zoomed off.

In less than thirty minutes, he was already in front of Catherine's house.

"Thanks for the ride," Catherine said to him when he parked in front of her house.

"Don't mention it, please," Chris said to Catherine, and she nodded in agreement.

"Do you mind giving me your phone number?" Chris inquired while smiling.

"No, I don't give my phone number to strangers," Catherine replied while opening the door of the car, and immediately Chris widened his eyes in surprise.

"Well, you are a popular person, so getting your phone number won't be hard," Chris said to Catherine while smiling.

"Good luck with that," Catherine replied to him before stepping down from the car. "You said your name is Chris Brown, right?" Catherine inquired teasingly.

"Chris William, not Chris Brown," Chris replied while smiling.

"OK then, thanks for the ride once again," Catherine said to him before heading towards her apartment, and immediately Chris reversed his car and zoomed off.

As Catherine was heading towards her apartment, she saw a royal green Toyota Matrix parked in front of her house, and beside the car were standing two men dressed in a security guard uniform.

She kept wondering who the men were while heading towards the door.

Once Catherine got inside the house, she saw Mr. Bernard sitting in their chair while discussing with her mother, and immediately her heart skipped.

"Good evening, sir." Catherine greeted him with a shaky tone.

"Good evening, Catherine, How was your day?" Mr. Bernard asked Catherine while smiling.

"It was fine, sir," she replied while faking a smile. "Good evening, mom." Catherine greeted her mom too.

"Good evening, Catherine. Welcome. You have a visitor," Mrs.Joyce said to Catherine while smiling, and immediately Catherine went and sat beside her, wondering what she owed for the surprise visit from Mr. Bernard.

After some minutes of silence, Mr. Bernard proceeded.

"Catherine, I came here to apologize to you for my wife's behavior towards you last night. I won't ask you to forgive her or not because that's your personal choice, but all I want to ask you is please don't punish Jerry because of her," Mr. Bernard said to Catherine, and immediately she furrowed her brows at him in surprise.

"I know that my son Jerry is in love with you, and I want you too to know that whatever happens, I will be in support of your relationship with him even if his stepmother is against it," Mr. Bernard said to Catherine, and immediately Catherine looked at her mother sitting beside her, and she nodded in agreement while smiling sheepishly.

"Thanks, sir, for the visit," Catherine replied with a fake smile. "About what happened yesterday, I have forgotten about that; that's already in the past, and I'm not angry at Jerry; after all, he did nothing wrong to me," Catherine replied.

"Catherine, I hear that," Mr. Bernard replied. "By the way, Jerry had a little shock yesterday while returning from your place," Mr. Bernard said to Catherine, and immediately she widened her eyes in surprise.

"What!" Catherine exclaimed in surprise. "Hope nothing bad happened to him?" Catherine inquired with a worried tone.

"No, just some bruises on his forehead," Mr. Bernard replied, and Catherine heaved a sigh of relief.

"The doctor said that he was driving while drunk. It's the first time I've heard that he was drunk." Mr. Bernard said to Catherine, and immediately Catherine bent her head down in guilt, knowing the reason why he got drunk.

"I hope you didn't break up with him because of what happened." Mr. Bernard inquired, but Catherine remained silent without replying.

"No, she didn't break up with him." Mrs. Joyce lied in Catherine's defense, and immediately Catherine looked at her with a surprised face.

"That's good because if you really love someone, you won't allow issues such as this to come between you and the person," Mr. Bernard informed, and immediately Mrs. Joyce nodded in agreement while smiling sheepishly.

"In which hospital is he staying?" Catherine inquired, and Bernard gave her the hospital's address.

"I will be taking my leave now," Mr. Bernard said to them while standing up. "Mrs. Joyce, thanks for your warm welcome," Mr. Bernard said to Catherine's mom while heading towards the door.

"Don't mention it, please," Catherine's mom said to Mr. Bernard, who was already going outside.

Once Mr. Bernard left the house, Catherine looked at her mother with an angry face.

"Mum, why did you tell him that I didn't break up with Jerry while we are not even in a relationship?" Catherine asked her mom with an angry tone.

"Will you shut up, my friend?" Mrs. Joyce said to Catherine "You want to make me believe that you aren't in love with Jerry, right?" Mrs. Joyce inquired while feigning to be angry, and Catherine kept looking at her angrily without saying a word.

"Can you look me in the eyes and tell me that you aren't in love with him?" Mrs. Joyce inquired, and immediately Catherine bent her head in defeat without uttering a word.

"If I were you, I would already be running to the hospital to see him before he tells his father that you broke up with him." Mrs. Joyce said to Catherine, and immediately she looked at her mother shyly.

"I think you are right, mom." Catherine said to her mom while smiling. "Let me go and freshen up first," Catherine said to her mom while running in the direction of her room.

"Children of nowadays," Mrs. Joyce mumbled to herself while smiling.

"In a split second, Catherine was already freshening up and also changing her dress.

Without hesitating, she ran to the seat where she had left her hand.

"I'm already going, mom," Cath

Erine said this to her mother while taking her handbag from the couch where she had left it.

"Good luck, my daughter," Mrs. Joyce said to her daughter, who was already heading outside.

Once Catherine came outside, she boarded a taxi and started heading towards the hospital.
