Chapter 42 - Chapter 42

Jenny POV:

I dialed Annie's number, the phone ringing in my ear as I waited for her to answer. Her warm voice filled the line, "Hi Jenny, how have you been?"

We exchanged pleasantries, our conversation flowing like a gentle stream. But then Annie's tone turned mischievous, "Did you talk to my brother?"

I hesitated, unsure where this was leading. "Yes, I did."

Annie's laughter tinkled through the phone, "Well, that's good. Don't worry, I'm pretty sure he'll ask you out today or tomorrow."

My curiosity piqued, "Ask me out? What did you tell him?"

Annie's response was cryptic, "Nothing, just wait and see."

I shifted gears, focusing on my pressing concern, "Annie, I need your help with something. I need a good lawyer to stop my aunt from taking Dad's restaurant."

Annie's tone turned professional, "Noted, anything else?"

I declined, "No, thanks Annie."

Her parting words left me puzzled, "Save your thanks for him."

The call ended, leaving me wondering who this mysterious "him" was. I pushed the thought aside and focused on the evening's tasks.

The staff had left, and Dad and I closed the store. I headed to the market, the vibrant colors and lively chatter filling my senses as I shopped for tomorrow's ingredients. Meanwhile, Dad headed home, the evening sun casting a warm glow over our quiet routine.

Alex POV:

My phone rang, its melodic tone piercing the silence. I answered, my voice calm and detached. "Hello, sis."

"I have something vital to share with you," she said, her words laced with a hint of urgency.

"I'm listening," I replied, my gaze drifting out the window, where the city lights twinkled like diamonds. Lyla, my secretary, sat beside me in the Rolls-Royce, her eyes fixed on her notes.

"Jenny is seeking a lawyer because her aunt wants to claim her property. You can assist her..." she began, but I cut her off.

"I know what to do, sis," I said, my tone firm and resolute.

"Good," she replied, and the call ended.

I turned to Lyla, my expression thoughtful. "I want you to find a hotel near Glaps Street."

"But, sir, I've already booked a room at Calve Hotel," she protested, her brow furrowed in concern.

"Cancel it and do as I instructed," I said, my tone firm but calm.

Lyla nodded, her fingers flying across her phone's keyboard as she worked. The soft hum of the Rolls-Royce's engine filled the silence, a gentle accompaniment to our conversation.

After a few moments, Lyla spoke up, "Sir, I've found a suitable hotel near Glaps Street. Shall I book it?"

I nodded, my eyes never leaving the road ahead. "Yes, do it."

The Rolls-Royce glided smoothly through the streets, its luxurious interior a stark contrast to the turmoil brewing in my mind.

Jenny POV:

I returned home, the evening air carrying the sweet scent of blooming flowers as I stepped into the house. After storing the groceries in the pantry, I felt a warm embrace from behind. It was Grandma, her gentle hug a comforting haven.

"Granny, you're still up?" I asked, surprised by her late-night vigil.

"Yes, dear, I couldn't sleep," she replied, her voice soft and soothing. "So, how's it going with him?"

I sighed, the weight of my emotions settling in. "It's not fine. He has a girlfriend, and I promised to stay away from him. But his sister said he's going to ask me out, and I'm confused."

Grandma's eyes sparkled with wisdom. "If that's the case, you should fight for what you want and accept him when he asks you out."

I hesitated, torn between my promise and my feelings. "But Granny, isn't that stealing? You taught me to keep my promises..."

Grandma's expression turned fierce. "This is different, Jenny. This is about your heart. Fight for what you want. Don't let fear hold you back."

Her words lingered in the air as she left me, her footsteps echoing down the hallway. I stood there, lost in thought. Why was I still hesitating? Annie and Grandma wanted me to take a chance...

But then I thought of her, his girlfriend. The love in her eyes when she looked at him, despite her rudeness towards me. My heart ached, and I slapped my hand against my forehead. "Jenny, stop this!"

I took a deep breath and left the pantry, the soft glow of the kitchen lights guiding me towards a uncertain future.
