Chapter 1 - Hybrid

ELVIRA

Those bedtime stories your parents read to you at night about monsters who hide under your bed and attack you whenever you do a bad thing, well turns out they are real and no, they don't hide under your bed, they lurk in the shadows, preying on their victims and honestly I'm one of them. I'm what some would call a freak, an aberration, a disgrace even and honestly I don't give a shit anymore because you see, one of the things I learned in my 19 years on this earth is that people tend to make you feel less of yourself when they are intimidated or scared of you. Anyways, I'm sure you're wondering who and what I am, ELVIRA HAMILTON, yeah I know it's a weird name but I love it, it's unique. Moving on, I'm 19 years old and a hybrid.

I move through the forest with a cool, calm determination. My every sense is attuned to the surroundings, and I know someone is watching me. But I'm no easy prey.

With a confident smirk, I let out a low whistle, as if daring the stalker to reveal themselves. My fingers curl around the hilt of the dagger, ready for whatever may come.

As if in response to my taunt, a dark figure emerges from the shadows. Clad in black and carrying a crossbow, they move with the stealth of a trained killer. My smirk widens as I recognize the hunter. "Well, well, well," she purrs, "look who decided to finally show their face." The hunter's eyes narrow, and I know that the game has just begun.

The hunter takes aim with their crossbow, his fingers trembling with anticipation. My eyes flash with excitement, my pulse quickening. Without warning, I lunge forward, dodging the hunter's shot with lightning-fast reflexes.

The hunter's jaw drops in surprise, but they quickly recover, and the chase is on. Elvira weaves through the forest like a phantom, always one step ahead of her pursuer. But as the hunt continues, I begin to realize that this hunter may be more than just a common assassin.

As they race through the dense undergrowth, Elvira realizes that the hunter is using tactics that seem strangely familiar. His movements are almost wolf-like.

Could it be that the hunter is not human at all? The thought sends a shiver down her spine, but she can't afford to lose focus. With a feral snarl, she ducks behind a tree and waits for the hunter to catch up.

The hunter rounds the corner, his breaths ragged, crossbow poised and ready. But elvira is nowhere to be seen. Suddenly, she drops from a nearby branch, landing behind the hunter with a thud.

The hunter whirls around, raising his weapon but elvira is already is already in motion. She darts forward, disarming the hunter with lightening fast precision.

The hunter gasps in disbelief, as elvira grins savegely and says "who's hunting who now?" The hunter, taken aback by elviras ferocity, takes a step back "you're not an ordinary wolf" he mutters, eyes wide with surprise.

Elvira just smirks in response, her eyes glowing with an inhuman intensity. She advances towards the hunter, her movements fluid and predatory.

He then realizes with dawning horror that he has bitten off more than he can chew. Elviras grin widens, revealing sharp fangs, her crimson eyes glistening in the moonlight.

She lunges forward, faster than the hunter can react. The hunter tries to back away, but it's too late. Elviras teeth sink into his neck, and a scream escapes his lips. As the hunters blood flow into elviras mouth, a primal instinct takes over and she feeds ravenously, her humanity slipping away with each drop.

His body goes limp in her grasp, and elvira pulls back, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand.

The aftermath of the hunters demise is a gruesome sight. The silence of the forest is broken by the sound of elviras ragged breathing, and the only evidence of her savage transformation is a pool of blood at her feet.

The primal hunger is still there gnawing at her insides. She takes one last look at the hunters body, her eyes glinting in the moonlight, before she melts into the shadows, leaving nothing behind but the eerie echo of her footsteps.
