Su Yeon's POV
I don't know what just happened but all I can remember is that Mr. Gwang looked so shocked when he saw me, he blinked a few too many times before reaching for the pen he dropped earlier.
"Sir, the elevator is about to close," I reminded him and it seemed to work!
"Oh, right, my apologies." Mr. Gwang said, "You look like someone I met years ago." he mentioned.
"Ah, is that so..." I trailed off and waited for him to leave the elevator before following him to his office. When we reached his office, he quickly turned around to face me.
"Why are you following me?" He asked, "Is there something I haven't signed yet?" He added, oh my gosh, did he forget already?
"No, Mr. Gwang, I am your secretary. My workplace is inside your office," I answered his question with a smile, although I wanted to just scream at him because of his sudden weirdness.
"Oh, really now?" His eyes darted around the hallway and he called someone when he found them, "You, come here!" Mr. Gwang demanded from one of his employees who was just passing by, the employee tensed up from seeing him and immediately left us, well, mostly him.
"Sir, your meeting with the investors in Seoul will be in five minutes. We don't have time to waste," I reminded him and he nodded.
"Ah, right, I forgot." Mr. Gwang muttered before going to his desk, "You're dismissed," he said to me and I turned around.
"Yes, sir," I replied before going to my workplace, what's with him? He's suddenly getting awkward with me, I shrugged it off later and did my job... It hasn't been five minutes since Mr. Gwang started pestering me with his demands.
"Secretary Shin," he called for me, I rolled my eyes internally before standing up.
"You called for me, Mr. Gwang?" I asked him with a small smile, he stood up in his seat and walked towards me. Uh, what's going on? Is he insane?
"Uh, sir, what's going on?" I called him out.
"What do you mean what's going on? We have a meeting with the investors in Seoul, remember?" he reminded me this time, oh right, I forgot.
"Ah, yes." I replied, "I'll escort you to the car, then." I told him before standing up.
"No need, just follow me, someone will escort us there." Mr. Gwang pointed it out and I nodded at his statement. As I follow him out of his office, a tall figure lurks on my peripheral and I tensed up when I felt it approaching us. I don't know about it, but I got an oddly familiar sensation just by tensing up when I noticed the tall figure.
"Ah, Hyeon Woo, I was looking for you." A woman's voice came out of the tall figure, and Mr. Gwang turned to look at her.
"Ah, sister, I didn't expect you to be here." He mentioned, and I composed myself to bow at her. When his sister finally took a glance at me, she did a double take after seeing me.
"Hyeon Woo, can I speak with you... for a moment?" She asked him with a forced smile before snatching him away from my sight, huh, his family's weird. The telephone from his office rang and I ran to answer it to tell the investors to kindly wait for his arrival. When I hung up, I accidentally overheard their conversation.
"Really? You're bringing her here after a decade?" She scolds Mr. Gwang through hushed whispers. I slowly and quietly made my way to lean into their conversation.
"Ten years is already too long, and it's not like she remembers it." Mr. Gwang answered, and he was about to add something when he stopped. I leaned my head even further to see if they whispered even quieter, but my head seemed to have bumped into something. When I looked up, I saw Mr. Gwang staring down at me and I composed myself in front of him.
"It seems that someone's eavesdropping," his sister chimed in after that.
"I didn't mean to, Ms. Gwang, it's just that Mr. Gwang is needed urgently for his meeting with the investors." I looked down, it felt too familiar but I couldn't put my head around it, "I apologize if I came to be a gossipmonger to your eyes," I apologized and bowed down to her.
"I'm glad you know your place," she said before clearing her throat, "Now, I think I came up at the wrong time, but remember what I told you." His sister told him before leaving us, I sighed in relief when I felt that she was nowhere to be found. When I looked up, I caught a glance of Mr. Gwang's disappointment.
"Compose yourself, Ms. Shin," he told me and so I did, "Let's go." is all he said before approaching the elevator. The walk to the parking lot was awkwardly quiet and neither of us wanted to talk to each other, I feel like I've done this before but I seem to have forgotten everything. When I was too deeply thinking about it, I unconsciously pouted and bit my lip, when I heard a chuckle.
"Yes, sir?" I immediately replied, and I could see Mr. Gwang's face light up a little bit.
"You're sulking," he said, and I blinked at his statement.
"Sulking? Who, me?" I genuinely asked, still recovering from the sudden conversation.
"I'm not the one who's pouting and biting my lips now, aren't I?" He asked.
"Oh, sorry." I apologized, "It's just that, I really didn't mean to lean into the conversation but when you're whispering loudly like that I just couldn't help myself." I casually talked to him, and I immediately stopped when I realized it. He gave me a wild look and smiled widely.
"You're quite bold, aren't you? You're suddenly talking to me as if we're friends," Mr. Gwang said before looking out at the window.
"Sorry, sir, it won't happen again." I clasped my thighs, the car stopped at a red light and he started talking.
"I'm the one who should be sorry," he said and I looked at my pondering boss, "You really look like someone I know from my past," he mentioned.
"Is she pretty like me?" I broke his moment and he glared at me, which made me shut up but he gave it a thought before answering.
"Actually, I don't know, many years have gone by." He answered and I nodded at his statement, "So seeing you who looks like someone..." he trailed off and stared at me.
"Someone you loved?" I asked Mr. Gwang, but he didn't answer and just looked away when the car started moving again.
"Someone who promised me forever," he answered, and I sighed sadly.
"That must've been difficult for you, sir." I replied, "I feel like if I made a promise like that, I won't break that." I don't know where that came from, but I guess that's what I am.
"Really now?" He asked me.
"I actually don't know where that came from, I don't remember but I can feel that I'm not the kind of person who just breaks a promise without a reason." I answered honestly, "So I guess the woman who promised you forever must have her reasons as well." I consoled him with a smile before the car pulled to a stop.
"What if the reason she broke her promise is because she can't stand my family?" Mr. Gwang asked me.
"Then I guess I can't blame her, I mean you two probably loved each other. If your family has something to say about it, then I guess your family can't let you go." I answered then I gave it a thought, "Or is it because you two live in different worlds? Like she's poor, you're rich? Then I guess it's inevitable." I added.
"I guess you could say that," he agreed, "But wouldn't the odds be clear that if... as what you've just said, if they truly love each other, then why can't she endure it?" he asked me and I raised an eyebrow at him, I don't know about it but it somehow triggered something in me.
"If they truly love each other, the man should've been the one who made a way. Like breaking free from his family and getting away with the love of his life. Live life with her and spend the rest of their living breathing days having each other, after all, I gave up everything just to be with you." I stopped talking when I found myself putting myself in the woman's perspective. His eyes widened when I said that to him and was about to say something but just cleared his throat when the car pulled to a stop and the chauffer hopped out of the car to open the car door from his side to let him out.
"Let's go," he answered before someone opened the car door.
