Chapter 18 - The dungeon PT 2/2

Walking deeper into the tunnels spiders started appearing starting from minuscule to the size of the palm of my hand I wanted nothing more than to obliterate the dungeon filled with arachnids but I steeled myself to push further.

Entering a room I was met by even more cobwebs but the difference was their layout this was the beginning of the 'nest' that the monsters had created. Each web in this room was a trap or a sensor of sorts that would send signals to the 'soldiers' of the nest that something invaded their territory. I had every intention of setting off these traps as it would thin out the numbers when I went deeper into the dungeon. Walking over to a thick chord of webs I inspected it and decided that after the battle I would gather the webs for material for my suit,I grabbed a remaining log from my inventory and threw it towards the middle of the room. Multiple traps made of webs were sprung capturing their target. Focusing on my sense of hearing I heard multiple shrieks of the creatures and the tapping of legs.

Coating myself in shadows I kneeled in the corner of the room waiting and hoping that I wouldn't be discovered by a moving arachnid. Through the tunnel a small army of spiders entered their forms were a horrifying sight, Their legs were long and covered in matted fur and their thorax glowed a dim yellow hur. The gnashing of mandibles was the limit for me as I saw acidic saliva drip from these rabid creatures.

Filing my weapon with abundant amounts of aura I slashed the air with all my might creating a blade of aura covered in shadows that swept through the spiders decimating a majority. Unfortunately there were a few stragglers that claimed up the walls and ceiling. Jumping at me they used their sharp limbs as weapons and spat acid from a distance. Trying to dodge both at the same time was demanding to say the least. Since I was so focused on the battle ahead of me I didn't notice a spider that had circled behind me. Instantly I used its front limbs and stabbed into one of my legs and my side, I nearly fell to my knees from the pain however I steeled myself and swung my scythe overhead before letting the blade drop behind me skewering the spider on the tip.

Taking out a vial of monster blood I downed it the feeling of relief as my wounds healed was a mercy that allowed me to continue battling. Trying to end the confrontation I used the shadows to hide my weapon before cutting through the spiders closest to me before using bolts of shadows to hit the spiders that were at range. Usually I wouldn't be able to use shadow bolts but due to the darkness the mana consumption had decreased and my control over the shadows had heightened, If I were outside in the day I would barely be able to coat myself and my weapon in shadows for 15 minutes.

Finally the spiders were dead and I was able to sigh in relief. The battle had taken a toll on my mind more than my body but I had to keep going. For a dungeon like this there were only 2 more rooms. One where the majority of the spiders would be and a boss room where the big mama spider should be nesting. Moving to the next room the quality of the webs had increased however this made it a lot more deadly. Each one was like razor wire just touching it and moving my finger slightly cut the flesh to the bone. It could be used as a garrot wire if I need to assassinate someone but the other use could be for reinforcement on my armour design.

Walking deeper once again I was met with a plethora of eyes staring straight at me, Spiders of all sizes filled every inch of the room. Luckily it would be the same battle as the previous one but with more numbers so I knew I would be able to handle it. Each spider was an opportunity to grow as they rushed at me each swing increasing my strength and stamina each dodge and step increasing my agility each spell increasing my mana. It was very much like a workout but with your life on the line making the effort more rewarding than training in a room and a lot more efficient.

Slumping over I took in a ragged breath my clothes were all but wearable my weapons were blunt all except my scythe. I could barely feel my limbs and my wounds had stopped healing long ago after abusing my regenerative powers. As I lay there I spotted a moving shadow in the corner of my eye. It seems that one straggler managed to hide and wait for an opportunity. I was not able to move much as my limbs fell from the built up exhaustion. Focusing on the spider I noticed a difference, this one was a deep black and covered in spikes. I doubted that they would help but it made the spider look all the more intimidating.

Sorry little guy you shown yourself way too soon. Did you think that because I couldn't move you had won?

Before it could react to the dread it was feeling a spike pierced its underbelly the tip smothered in green blood.

Letting out a sigh of relief I let myself fall into a semi conscious state where I could rest but I would be alert. I had learnt this after fighting for days on end with mishia. While she could regenerate our bodies she couldn't regenerate mental exhaustion brought on by dying over and over again. Eventually you will fall asleep in battle, so I ended up falling into a trance like state where my mind would rest but my body would be on autopilot allowing me to dodge but not much else.

After an appropriate amount of rest I walked to the ominous looking door at the end of the room while watching out for spider web traps. the door was black and covered in red runes that lined the frame. This was the boss room door and they would always look the same. Pushing open the door I stepped inside where a spider the size of a house was waiting for me. Around the spider were eggs made of webs and silk along with corpses of other spiders. It seems that the mom was a cannibal that ate her own children for a snack.

It had already laid its beady black eyes on me as I entered so there was no way to set up a plan or use a sneak attack. The spider screeched however unlike the others it was so loud that it burst my eardrums. Blood leaked from my ears and all the sound had disappeared. A deep anger flowed from within me. This abomination had dealt serious damage to me. Calling upon all my past experience I channeled everything I had and pushed up to the boss monster. Swinging my scythe towards a leg I was sure of my swing however it never met any resistance. Looking towards the spider I was surprised that it wasn't there anymore. Spinning around I barely managed to counter a leg that would have pierced me. This thing was fast! Abnormally fast for its size.

Pushing forwards i jumped from the wall and swung down upon its carapice however the blade simply slid off after making a deep gash.

Squealing in fury the spider once again jumped from my view however before I could react I was skewered from behind and lifted into the air. Blood leaked from my mouth as my lungs filled with the same liquid. The pain was horrible however I was just barely able to tolerate it. the spider seemed to be delighted at the fact that I was suffering as it turned me to face it. All the abyssal eyes seemed to look at me as if trying to say. I have won there is no escaping your fate.

Opening its mouth I recognised what it was about to do. Bringing me closer it was trying to devour me. Pushing the last of my strength into my number hands I held onto the scythe as tight as I could.

You. should. have. aimed. for. the. heart.

Using all my mana and aura in one go dark flames formed around my eyes as a side effect, I created a blast of shadow blades that flew out in all directions slashing the spider and tearing it to shreds. The thorax of the spider burst open and a swarm of babies escaped however they were also decimated by the hardened shadows.

Falling to the ground I dragged my body over to the corpse. I was dying but I could save myself if I was lucky enough. Green blood poured from the boss monster and I didn't have time to be picky. Lapping up the blood like a dog would lick a wound I drank for an unknown amount of time. Each drop of blood was used to repair my broken body, first my sense of hearing returned and then the hole in my stomach slowly started to close. After what must have been a couple days I was fully repaired and I felt better than ever however I didn't stop drinking the remaining blood until the corpse was bone dry.

Standing up I walked to the back of the room where a large chest covered in cobwebs was waiting for me. Opening the chest I was happy to see an abundance of materials along with a couple low rank artifacts that I could sell for a decent sum of money.

Walking out of the dungeon after gathering all the materials I needed I decided to look at my status.

Looking at the progress I had made I was happy I had officially made it to the stage where gaining strength would be difficult.

When people hit C rank their progress dramatically decreases. Where it may take 10 hours of practice to increase a sub rank before it may take double that time. In other words I would have to defeat multiple dungeons to gain a sub rank or drink the blood of a high rank monster which I doubt I could get my hands on without a lot of money.

Still I was able to walk away satisfied knowing I had gained a generous amount of strength and the scythe had also improved and evolved. It looked a lot more menacing and the colour had turned a deep red with green lines here and there that looked like cracks. Looking down I definitely needed clothes so I would focus on making. some after building a base of operations.

Chapter end.

The next chapter will take place after a time skip where the MC will have built a base into a hill and made himself a set of armour and some artifacts. However we will resume just before he finishes crafting his gun. I'm hoping to put a lot of details into it if I can along with maybe a picture.

Have a good day yall
