Chapter 19 - Death

Holden

I freeze for an entire second.

"what?" I nearly yell but manage to keep my cool. "how could you leave her all alone and that too in a nearly unconscious state." I say shaking my head in horror.

Jax, her spirit animal just stays quiet. After a while he speaks, "the smoke got worse so I moved her somewhere safe and came here to make sure you were safe." he insists.

I exhale, eyes shut as I hold the bridge of my nose. "where is she now?" I ask, voice low and calm bracing myself for his reply.

"the garden in front of her house." he said.

"the what?" I ask with wide eyes, fear true fear began to creep in.

"for how long?" I ask slowly.

"fifteen minutes." he replies.

I face palm myself.

-----

It only takes a minute for Jax to teleport us there, the moment he does The aura in the place isn't good either.

I could practically see smoke coming from within the house even though there was a mist around it.

"oh no." I mutter running into the house only to find her unconscious on the floor, nearly dead and in the middle of a fierce fight. Which was sure to leave the house in ruins.

I didn't care about anything else in that moment but her. I run in between and manage to drag her out, but not without noticing a hole in the ground near her.

What had happened?

I pull her close to myself, and after some seconds she coughed. I pull away, from her but don't go too far.

"are you okay?" I ask her, she blinks her tired eyes at me and for a split second I see pain. True pain in them.

Her lips quaver, but she doesn't cry. "my....my..." she is breathing unevenly now.

"Easy..." I say, but she only tenses the more. "he is dead." she said after a moment of silence, and for a split second I feel cold. I could say that Jax felt the same.

"...who?" I ask, nearly stuttering. She shuts her eyes and for a moment I thought she would yell at me. But it comes out calmer than I expect.

"My grandfather... they killed him." She says, her eyes slowly drooping.

"Mystic... Mystic!" I call, hands on her cheeks. She doesn't respond, not as she falls deeper into oblivion.

I sigh, and with a heavy heart as I carry her with Jax following behind.

I knew where we were heading, it was the only safe place I could think of at the moment. My house.
