"what are you?" I ask, still sitting on the floor.
The floating blue tiger floats around me for the fifteenth time.
"I'll tell you if you remain calm, otherwise..." I cut it short in its tracks.
"You can talk?!" I ask or yell...
It looks at me with a skeptical look, like I had just insulted it or something.
"of course I can, does it look like I'm a mute stuffed doll or something?" It says, huffing.
"wait, so you're not a ghost?" I ask, looking confused.
It huffs a laugh, "no, I'm not a ghost silly; I'm your spirit animal guide." It says.
"spirit what?" I ask, jumping to my feet.
It moves back, "I'm your guardian, didn't you know?" It asks me like I was expected to know everything that was going on.
"what do you mean by I was supposed to know?" I ask.
"At this age, every blueblood is assigned one. It could be a dolphin or a cat... depends on your character." It says, sounding like one of my lecture's all over again.
"Why didn't you reveal yourself earlier?" I ask again, staring at the floating tiger.
"you see, I couldn't." It says, floating into my room.
"What do you mean by you couldn't?" I ask, walking into the room and turning on the lights.
It sighs before replying. "There was a veil, which prevented you from seeing me. I was there when you were you turned ten. But you couldn't see me, neither could I reveal myself to you because you didn't know." It said, settling on my bed.
"I didn't know about what?" I ask, a whisper.
"your identity. You are a blueblood and I am to guide you on how to be one." It says, looking up at me.
"well now, so that's what spirit animals are for." I huff.
"monitoring lizards." I whisper, "what?" It replies, and I can't stop the chuckle that erupts from me.
-------
Another day, waking up to an empty house. I get ready for school and run off to school.
Insisting that Jax stays behind at home. During closing hours, I sneak into the library to find some books about bluebloods. Then I notice the shelve from which I and Holden had fallen through a day ago was slightly open and there was smoke coming out of it.
I take careful and steady steps towards it. And push it open., and when I do I'm not prepared for what happens next.
I could not only sense, but also smell destruction and danger.
I inhale deeply, before jumping in. I find myself falling into the pit, faster than last time.
This time I didn't yell. Soon, I land with one knee on the ground and the other foot on the floor. I look up, at the cave where the demons had emerged from the last time I was here.
But none appeared. There was something wrong. I get to my feet, walking straight towards the cave, alert and careful. I find all the demons dead on the stone floor.
On reaching the ice blue door, I pull it open. But not without noticing the blood on the floor. Flowing from the inside.
And then again, nothing could prepare me for what I saw in that room.
The room of crystals.... was covered in blood.
Did someone have a blood bath in here? I cringe at the thought.
At the center, was the lady. The same lady which had knocked Holden out.
Now she was laying on the floor, lifeless.
I move closer to inspect her body.
Her neck was cut, like a sharp knife had been used. But yet again, she wasn't human. So whoever did this must be very strong.
My eyes widen as I stare at the walls. They were covered in scratches. Like she had tried to desperately crawl... away.
I gasp and step away from her.
She had been murdered.
'Run!' a voice said in my head.
I could feel it, danger.
'Run!!' It yelled more urgent, I inhale deeply channeling my power and using it to teleport myself back to the school premises.
Just as I hear approaching footsteps.
----
I grab my bag quickly and make my way for the gate. But halt at the sound of a familiar
voice calling out to me.
I turn around to find Holden standing there. "you okay?" he asks, as he approaches.
"yeah, I'm fine." I say, tucking my hair behind my hair.
"anything important?" I ask, eager to leave.
"yeah, ummm... I asked my mum about the sleep over and..." I cut him off.
"she disagreed. Don't worry, I'm okay now, I'm not so lonely anymore." I say, with a small smile so he wouldn't worry.
"you sure?" He asks unsure.
"yes. How about you come over to my place to see my new friend? I'm sure 'he' would be more than happy to get to know you. What do you think?" I ask, looking at him expectantly.
"he?" he asks, arcing an eyebrow. I nod in agreement.
He sighs, "alright, I'll come." He says.
I sigh in relief, nearly falling on my knees while doing so.
"thanks." I say, turning towards the gate but his voice grabs my attention again.
"Hey Mystic." he calls, and I turn.
"Red looks good on you." He says, with a smile.
I look down at my red hoodie, which I had worn with a blue jeans.
"uhhh... thanks?" I say.
"you're welcome." he says, and with that I head for home.
On my way home I ponder over what grandpa had said, he was right.
Whoever this 'him' was, he is definitely dangerous. And I'm not ready to face 'him', at least not yet.
