"That's something you'll find out very soon. But first, I came to tell you something."
"Tell me something?" I asked.
"I don't live here, Angel. I'm just a hybrid."
I blinked several times, trying to understand what she just said.
"I didn't tell you earlier, I came to help you and your husband," she continued.
I looked at her with a puzzled expression. "Help us? Why?"
She looked around and approached me. "I can't tell you much now. But I want you to trust me."
"Trust you? You just lied about owning this place. How can I trust you again?" I replied.
"I know, and I'm sorry. But I had to help, and there was no other way to reach you except through that." She glanced at the door again. "I need you to believe me."
"Why should I?"
"Because your husband might die."
A chill ran down my spine as her words echoed in my mind.
