Chapter 37 - Chapter 36

First, Roan had to decide which method of spell-casting he was going to use.

Chanting required him to learn the arcane tongue which was impossible at the moment for Roan. So it was out of the question which left him with the spell construct method.

The spell construct method was a bit hard but still way easier than learning a language.

Decision made, Roan again opened the book and flipped to the page containing basic cantrips. He had to choose a spell.

'I need something that doesn't take too much ether and maybe, a long-range one."Roan thought as he flipped through the pages. After a minute of browsing, Roan found one. Ether Bullet. The perfect choice according to the criteria he had thought of in his head.

Roan then went through the explanation of how to create a spell construct. To create a spell construct, one had to carve it into one's soul space.

Roan nearly laughed after reading up to this point. And if his emotions weren't being suppressed, then he might have laughed out loud. It sounded ridiculous.

But after reading a bit more, Roan realised it was actually as simple as it sounded. A bit similar to the meditation technique but done in a different space, the Soul space.

"How do I get to Soul space? "Roan muttered but kept reading further.

To access one's soul space, a person had to meditate. But instead of focusing on breathing or anything else while meditating, the person had to focus on his mind.

"Sounds vague? "Roan shrugged but decided to give it a try. And before all of that, he first had to memorize the spell construct of the Ether bullet spell.

The construct was simple but only compared to the higher-level spells. It was still quite complex for a new magus like Roan.

The construct was two circles, one inside the other and a lot of small lines connecting the circles. It almost looked like some doodling done by a child on the ground but Roan decided to trust the book and memorize it.

It took him nearly half an hour to memorize the construct but even that was because of his improved memory which he had acquired sometime. His memory wasn't that good before. Roan knew it.

"Probably because of awakening. "It was feasible considering how much change Roan had gone through after awakening. He had gotten physically stronger and his mental abilities seemed to have improved as well.

But he didn't dwell on the topic too much and closed his eyes, ready to create his first spell construct.

First, he had to enter his soul space. The book made it seem easy and Roan hoped it was as easy as it said.

He closed his eyes and sat cross-legged on the bed, breathing in and out the musky air of the inn. He had to focus on his mind.

The noise below slightly distracted him causing Roan's focus to break. Mind was just too much of a vague concept to focus on. But he persisted. He tried to focus on his head and then his heart but both were failures.

"It's not going to work.... Soul space. "Roan muttered. "Soul. "Roan's eyes brightened as he thought of an idea. Rather than focusing on the physical part of his body, he decided to focus on the non-physical part. The soul.

Roan again closed his eyes and imagined his soul according to what he knew, an ethereal version of his physical body floating on his head. And a minute of struggle later, Roan felt something shift.

"Did it work? "Roan thought as he cracked his eyes open. The first thing he saw was a foggy sky. But it wasn't blue but dark or rather black. It matched the description in the book of what a soul space was supposed to look like except for the dark sky. He had succeeded.

Roan looked around at the vast space which was filled with white mist and beyond the mist, there was only darkness.

"Do I have a body? " Roan looked down to discover that he had no physical body. He was just a pair of eyes, observing. He tried to move but couldn't. It seemed that he was fixed in the same spot.

"Let's not get distracted. "Roan muttered to himself. He had to focus on what he was here for, creating a spell construct as staying in soul space would exhaust one's mental strength.

To create a spell construct, one had to control and condense the white mist, which was supposed to be the soul energy, into the shape of the spell construct step by step and then give it some time to stabilize. And after a few hours, it should be ready to cast a spell.

And to do all that, he had to learn to control the soul energy which according to the book should come naturally. And it did after Roan tried to move a small portion of the white mist or soul energy. It was easy.

And then came the hard part. Shaping the soul construct step by step. It was a tiring task and Roan even had to restart a couple of times because of the soul energy dispersing after Roan lost focus. But after a long gruelling effort, the spell construct was finally finished. It released a blinding light and started slowly rotating as it stabilized.

Then, Roan opened his eyes and let out a small smile. It was finally done.
