Roan opened his eyes and looked around. The scenery hadn't changed much. It was the same swaying grass and the occasional trees. He turned around to his company to see Alvis too had closed his eyes and the other two escorts were talking to each other. He still hadn't introduced himself and they hadn't taken the initiative either. It was for the best. He didn't like socializing that much anyway. Was he always like this or had he changed after the death of his friends? Roan asked himself that question. And the answer was, he didn't know.
Seth and Lela were the only friends he had before. So, he was probably a loner before too and he hadn't just realized that.
But becoming a loner wasn't a choice when you grew up in slums where a friend wouldn't hesitate to slit your throat for a piece of bread. And he might have died if not for Ruth.
Roan shook his head and tried not to dwell on the painful past. While he didn't feel the pain that didn't mean he liked to go through the memories.
