The next day
Roan waded through the crowd of pedestrians coming out of their houses or just walking on the street. He had noticed a lot of differences between Fayoor town and Tolaga.
The size and population of Fayoor town were larger than Tolaga but the people lived a lot worse life here. The houses here seemed rundown and there were beggars everywhere crawling on the ground, asking for money from everyone.
The town guards were lax and didn't care about anything as they sat on the wall. They didn't patrol or maintain order among the townspeople.
But that didn't affect Roan much. He wasn't going to be here for long.
He hadn't forgotten about the dead zone he had read about in a mission in Tolaga. He planned to visit the dead zone to retrieve the grimoire of a Necromancer which was supposed to be there.
So, for that, He had wanted to buy a map of the surrounding region but after hearing the price, he decided not to. So, he had gone to the library where he looked up the dead zone.
The dead zone, according to the map that he had seen in the library, was around a hundred kilometres away from Tolaga. Just like the mission stated. And the closest town to it was at least twenty-seven kilometres away which was going to be Roan's next destination after leaving Fayoor town.
But before leaving this town, he planned to earn some money and also create another spell construct. He couldn't create another one right after the first as it would make both spell constructs unstable, was what the book had said.
So, Roan trusted the book and decided to wait for a week and then create another spell construct.
Roan's absentminded walk brought him to the front of the outer wall where a couple of soldiers were guarding the huge metal door while numerous carts lined up beside the road.
Most of those carts were old and discarded ones but there were a couple of carts in good condition with a person sitting on the driver seat. Those people were merchants, Roan's target of the day.
It was a strange method. Merchants just waiting at the gate for their escorts to arrive with no idea if they would even arrive. But from his research, Roan knew it was just how things ran in this town and he was just new to it.
He then swept his gaze through the three merchants sitting on their carts but then froze. He recognized a face there. It was Alvis. He was fiddling while sitting in the front of his cart.
He hadn't forgotten about them. They had helped him a lot during that day.
Roan approached the fidgeting Alvis whose eyes widened after he noticed Roan.
"Roan. "Alvis exclaimed as soon as he saw him approaching. The other merchants glanced at Roan after hearing Alvis exclaim but quickly lost interest. He was a new face so that was understandable.
"Alvis. "Roan greeted him with a faint smile.
Alvis returned the smile, albeit a bit forced, "How are you? "
"I'm good. How about you? And where is Zek? "
Roan noticed Alvis's downtrodden look and thought, "Did something happen to Zek? " But he didn't voice out his thoughts.
"I'm good. Zek has gone to get the men who agreed to escort us to the next town."Alvis said.
"Oh. "Roan nodded. "I came here for the same reason. " He said, smelling an opportunity.
"What? You decided to become a merchant too?"Alvis asked with a surprised face causing Roan to look at him with a dead face.
"No. I am here for a job as an escort... "Roan swallowed the words he was about to say. They had helped him a lot before so he couldn't be mean. Not now at least.
"Oh really. Then why don't you join us? We only found two people and we still need two more."Alvis's face instantly brightened after hearing Roan. He even got down from the cart excitedly and wrapped his arm around Roan. "We just need to wait for Zek to arrive then we'll talk about fees. Where are you living right now? "
"Inn. "
"Then you should get your stuff ready. They might be stolen if you leave them at the inn. Also, if you have paid any money in advance then ask for the money back. You might not get it after we return. "Alvis said enthusiastically and shooed him away. "Cone back half an hour later. Zek should be back by then. "Alvis shouted at Roan who was a bit shocked but still walking away.
"What just happened? "Roan muttered. Have the merchants gotten this desperate or was Alvis just stupid? Well, he might be actually but that wasn't important.
"Well, whatever. "He had gotten his first job. So, he shouldn't be complaining.
